FTC moseys into Intel / NVIDIA dispute

The dispute between Intel and NVIDIA has already reached legendary proportions, and it looks like now even the FTC is getting involved as a result of its longstanding investigation into Intel regarding another matter. While Intel just settled the antitrust fight with AMD that originally kick-started the investigation last month, the FTC is now reportedly talking to NVIDIA to see if its numerous complaints against the chipmaker actually hold water. While complete details are expectedly light and none of the parties involved are saying much on the record, some "people familiar with the matter" say that the FTC is trying to determine if a lawsuit filed by Intel earlier this year is nothing more than an effort to disrupt NVIDIA's business. Of course, things could well expand from there, considering what the FTC has waded into.

and in this corner, weighing in at six cores, 32 nanometers, two billion transistors...
I'm rooting for NVIDIA.
@MLO
Same if Nvidia's GPGPU actually turns out to be as good AMD and Intel are in trouble.
@MLO
I think we all are.
@MLO
Whoops my mistake I meant to talk about the processor Nvidia's new architecture for it's cards.
@MLO
I'd say fuck them all, FTC especially.
@MLO
Intel seriously needs to lighten up and stop being a scrooge to other companies one of these days it could turn into a GM and belly flop
@xconan
Intel can suck it.
I boycott their products because of their arrogance/anticompetitive actions towards AMD.
YES!!! I for one am happy to hear this. Especially with the delays that came shortly after the lawsuit with Nvidia's GPGPU.
@(Unverified)
Whoops meant to talk about the processors coming out not the cards.
Why can't we all just get along?
@(Unverified) Because of intel.
@(Unverified) LEAVE INTEL ALONEEEEE!
@(Unverified)
LOL I see what you did there....
This has been a years-long cockfight, crescendoing into what will ultimately lead to a slap on the wrist to Intel. Everyone knows they use their near infinite power to quash those they consider their biggest threats. Apparently it's much easier than actually providing decent integrated graphics on your own chipset.
I am still trying to boot from my Matrox card!
exectedly isn't a word, spell check ftw
@Resputan
U R 2 Kewl
@CtrlBurn
Neat, I was trying to be one of the Engadget cool kids, glad I finally made it
@Resputan Well, "Exect" is a word; meaning to cut off, or cut out. While "Exectedly" isn't a proper use of the root word, his meanings are understandable when reading the root word's definition.
@Resputan
i wasn't even able to finish reading the article i was so baffled by what exectedly could have meant. I'm pretty sure engadget underlines incorrectly spelled words like engadget for instance is utterly wrong.
Sigh...Oblige intel to give up its anti-competitive stance by opening x86!! Only reason they are as big as they are, due to their monopoly.
@yor1001 You're right on one part, yes, one of the reasons they're as big as they are is because they're a monopoly. However, every firm strives to become a monopoly. If you can, why not? Wouldn't you?
lol, I can't pick side on this since I am BOTH an AMD + ATi fan. So I don't really like either company.
But I guess if I had to choose one to win this suit, it would be nVidia. Intel is a giant anyways.
So we are on the same graphical page here aren't we?
I have a 8800gt, and a q660, so i use products from both companies, but what intels been doing with the atom processors is plain dirty... Selling them with the gpu cheaper than standalone so companies don't use ions processors in their laptops.
@Nimer55
Business is rarely clean...
