Welcome to the new America, Home of the ... well, Home of the $99.99 per month, plus tax, after rebate, for a limited time only Special! Restrictions apply, services vary by location, bla bla bla....
How could the FCC allow this to go through after Comcast tried to screw with the public trust via the FCC here: http://bit.ly/6AhQpp I mean, if they do that just about net neutrality, what evil can they do with an entire television network?
They deserve each other.
Part of me wants this to go through so I can finally get G4 in HD on Dish.
on the other hand, every other part of me doesn't want this at all
@delphinus87
I have G4 HD, and trust me, you aren't missing much.
@delphinus87 The real farce about G4 in HD is that allmost all of their programming is broadcast in 4:3 format, not 16:9. You read that right, 4:3 for Attack of the Show, X-Play, and just about everything else. For a station "about" technology, I find it quite lacking that all the content is broadcast at 4:3.
bad news for nbc and bad news for content
Is Comcast going to force it's E! stars onto NBC shows? It was bad enough to see Bravo's "The Real Housewives" turn up on "Mercy" (yes, corporate synergy at work) so what's next - The Girls Next Door on "Friday Night Lights"?
I loathe Comcast with a passion, I desparately hope it doesn't go through.
@(Unverified) Comcast does indeed blow. Unfortunately I have no other options for internet until FIOS gets off it's ass and runs the cable of here- people have it less than a mile from my house but they "have no plans to expand in that area as of now." Sucks.
We have been able to ditch cable for OTA and a home server setup (dell tower P4/FreeNAS. LOVE IT!)
Eh, Time Warner (huge media conglomerate) owned Time Warner Cable (huge cable company) and the world didn't implode. Let's not go into FOX's relationship with DirecTV.
Comcast's stated goal with this buy is to begin putting together the pieces for a major competitor to ESPN. If they can achieve that, maybe it'll force ESPN to show more than 6 hours of sports (in between 18 hours of SportsCenter) a day.
Wake me when something interesting happens.
@UnnDunn
That's a good point, but Comcast is bigger.
I voted This could be a good thing for consumers because it gives the best show on television even more material. 30 Rock. Otherwise, you didn't think they actually considered the affect it would have on customers did you. Sorry Ben but this is probably all part of an elaborate conspiracy to eliminate OTA broadcasts, which I don't care about because I use torrent's or ninjavideo.net
Remember the cost of the digital transition was not passed onto any customers, but Comcast owns a large share of Clear, which owns spectrum for WiMax. I'm pretty sure suits see limiting broadcast availability to monthly paying customers only earns more money than giving it away for free. Dunno how they are gonna do it but I see this as the first step to mass adoption of IPTV.
Does anyone remember a show called "Max Headroom"?
Giant media conglomerates running the world...
@Trevor I do. Did it make it to season 2?
