The
Archos 5 Internet Tablet hasn't had the
smoothest ride into the commercial realm, but thanks to a few
firmware updates, the Android-based player seems to finally be humming along just fine. That said, not everyone's interested in shelling out big bucks for a capacious version, which makes the latest edition perfect for those simply curious to see how Google's mobile OS fares on a portable media player. The 8GB model has surfaced over at Radio Shack, bringing with it all the goods on the larger siblings but with far less internal space. The best part? That $249.99 price tag (and that little "In Stock" icon beside it).
@sirthought It's got a MicroSD expansion slot. SDHC compatible.
I've looked but can't seem to figure out if this one has any SD card slot expansion. 8GB is not very much.
strange this has been available at my local bestbuy for about 3 months now. one of my friends even purchased the thing and loves it so far.
i've had my Archos 5 (not the android one , the previous version) 120GB for a week now and so far i'm happy with it. once freezed and once bugged but it was ok , nothing serious. the screen is awesome and the UI is good. what really attracted me the most was the ability for running flash apps and reading PDF files. it's a big deal to me and the experience on both field with this device was really good. i think the loss of capacitive and multi - touch screen is a big step down for this device while with a big screen like this a capacitive touch screen is a should have thing for this device. the resistence touch screen is very responsive and very cool to work with though , but it would be much better with a capacitive touch screen. about the extra charges for plugins is true , but it's not a big deal at all. when i wanted to buy this device i was a little disappointed cause i though it only reads MP4 format like ipod , but when i tried it and found out that it reads AVI and MPEG i was so damn happy! cause all i need to do now is to just copy my video files into it. i was really tired of spending hours for converting my videos into ipod. another great thing about this device is it's a plug and play thing and there's no software needed to copy and sync your files. (if you want to sync your device you can use Windows Media Player , but it's optional cause device can read the files either way) so it also works as a Hard Disk Drive.i haven't tried the android based one yet and i really looking for buying the 500GB one but i'm gonna stick with it for a while till i make sure this android thing is safe to buy. the last word , archos all the way , archos beats apple! ;)
