Optical Media will soon be a thing of the past, and USB drives will be the future. You can get a 16Gb thumb drive cheap, and it allows you to write/re-write/delete unlimited times and never gets a scratch that renders all the data useless.
People didn't like the idea of switching from Floppy Disks to CD either. But we all know how that ended up.
@(Unverified) Or if you dont use optical media very often (as most dont) but still want the ability too, get a slim external slot load drive. They are pretty cheap these days, and getting cheaper by the second.
@Chip Why is it every time someone voices an opinion people like you sprout up saying "Well don't buy it! Rawrgle!". I didn't say I was or wasn't going to buy it, I said I wasn't a fan of its design. There's a difference.
although im a fan of thin and light, my next (13") lappy will have an optical drive, because i want the opportunity to swap it out and use an ssd as the system drive and hopfully soon a 1tb hdd for files.
The phone has 256MB of RAM and a 1GHz processor, which do the job reasonably well, though the Anna interface will likely leave something to be desired for many smartphone users.

Then don't buy one of these. There are a floppity jillion other laptops with an optical drive. Buy one of those instead.
