PS3 firmware 3.15 to add PSP Mini support, simplified console migration
Didn't the PS3 just get a firmware update? Something about posting all your hard-earned trophies onto your Facebook page? Yes, that sounds right. If you thought that was a big deal, wait 'til you get a load of this: According to the European PlayStation blog, yet another firmware update is imminent. And this one is pretty sweet -- seems that not only will console owners now be able to play PSP Minis, but if you've already bought a Mini for your portable and wish to play it on your PS3, you'll be able to download it to your console for free. Also included in the 3.15 update is a simplified utility for transferring data from one PS3 to another. Pretty great, right? Gamers, be sure to hit the source link for the deets.

The PSP GO is still a no go, but this is pure WIN!
the psp go is supposed to get a UMD drive. im gonna get one then
lol, deets....
by the way... is there any way to fix IE7 for the site??? see thats what im stuck with at the job... i can get on and everything, but the submit button for comments won't show. like... at all. and im not allowed to install chrome or firefox or anything. its rackin' my brain though... can't comment till i get to the crib??? thats crazy talk, ya digg... gotta fix engadget??
@skyblaze
Install firefox onto a data stick and run it off there.
Thats a possible work around.
Sucks you have to use IE at work(N)
@skyblaze
here is the css, you fix it:
#addCommentButton {
background: url(http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/poll_submit_btn.png) no-repeat 0 0;
height: 0 !important;
height /**/: 22px;
padding: 22px 0 0 0;
width: 54px;
border: none;
}
#addCommentButton:hover {
background-position: 0 -22px;
cursor: pointer;
}
@glamajamma Sweet, now how do I fix the g's, q's, p's, j's, and y's that get cut off at the bottom of each box?
@skyblaze
portableapps.com is your friend. Unless they lock down the usb ports
Wouldn't minis look terrible on HDTVs?
@XXLGadget Good point, i wonder if they upscale
@XXLGadget There will most likely be an upscaling algorithm in place, similar to how the PS3 upscales PS1 games.
Te update is optional tho.
You will not be forced to update to 3.15. Just like other useless updates should work.
That is good news indeed. I was a bit miffed about having to install the last update, particularly seeing how it's more practical to faff around with a USB stick than it is to sit there watching the download on the PS3.
I wonder if firefox is still coming...
@B3astofthe3ast
No, it was sadly just a rumor.
You know what would be awesome? A firmware update that fixes whatever 3.01 did to brick my system.
@AL1515 : My thoughts exactly, I think I'll pass on this update.
@AL1515
I'm curious about these bricked systems. If you remove then wipe the HD and do a fresh install, is it still bricked?
I just want xxxxing mkv support!
@bLoodz0R
And a better browser!
@bLoodz0R
Native MKV support would be epic, but you do know about "PS3 Media Server" in the mean time, don't ya?!
@patboy2008 Mozilla is teaming up with Sony to bring a better browser to the system.
@bLoodz0R
Yeah I second the PS3 Media Server thing. It just rocks!
What about Firefox and MKV support?
Your use of the word "deets" is deplorable sir.
Where's my .mkv support at?
I feel sorry for the XB Crew. Sony sure are pumping out some great updates on this console and my blu-ray player is still running perfectly. This is the best dam console ever invented. Keep em coming Sony. I might just buy that XBR9.
Waaait a minute I thought dual analog stick wasn't backwards compatible?
@brdystyls on the PS3 you can switch between Analog and Digital control options (though, technically, because all buttons (aside for the PS, L3, R3, START, and SELECT buttons) are pressure sensitive it's always Analog regardless)
a2dp please
Yesterday, I finally installed 3.10 on my system. It did nothing (good or bad). Here's another update that will also do nothing?
Color me disinterested.
@nrb
Just because you don't use the features in an update, that doesn't mean the update didn't do anything.
In other news, a tree fell in the forest...
My wireless controller could not sync with the 3.10 update, and Sony has killed auto HDMI detection, so my new Bravia won't detect the PS3. Now I can't use my TV remote to navigate the menus and play BR movies... All of this worked 100% fine before the 3.10 update when I purchased Slim 120gig model. Anyone having the same problems??
Mini support? Yeah, great, how about letting us play all of the other PSP games as well? I want to play some PSP games without having to buy another PSP.
great...my new PS3 is in the mail...
Fieldrunners on the ps3?
Count me in!
I wonder if the transfer util will transfer "copy protected" save data? I'd really love to get a Slim and slap a 500GB hard drive in that bad boy; but the copy protection keeps me from being able to upgrade without losing all my saves.
@Level 5
USB Drive + Backup Utility... You wont lose a thing...
@Gilberto
I've read that the "Copying Protected" saves are a no-go with that utility. If I CAN in fact copy them, I might be looking for an older PS3 that has PS2 compatibility.
Data transfer utility? Great! Now when I finally stump up the cash to get my OOW broken PS3 replaced (as they refuse to repair) I'll be able to.. hang on a sec...
@simbr
That's what I'm curious about. What is the point of a console-to-console data transfer utility? Is Sony expecting people to need multiple PS3s for some reason? Like a forced upgrade from Phat to Slim?
@amuro98
It would make a degree of sense as an alternative or replacement for the current backup system - i.e. allowing you to restore at least some data onto another console if your original breaks and you have a backup (I have an old backup of data from my old console, and two system disks from that console and they are useless as I can only use them in that console)
What I would like is a way to jump to a letter when scrolling through all my music. mostly of the time I don't bother listening to anything beyond A-D because I have to sit for 5 minutes as it scrolls through the list.
I would also like the option of having non-selected items not disappear when I stop for a few seconds of an item in the list.
About that, buying a new PS3 on Black friday, with the cool deal fo GOW Collection and LBP, and having to erase my consoles of everything because i didnt realize you couldnt just swap like i did once before. Thanks Sony for F***ing me over with this one, i FINALLY got my trophies synced up now too. It only took a few hours before the errors stopped :P
all i want is native .mkv support
I never upgraded past 2.80 because of all the unhappiness w/ 3.0. Would anyone recommend upgrading or have most changes been gimmicky?
