ZyXEL Announces World's First Fixed LTE CPE/SOHO Router
ANAHEIM, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - ZyXEL Communications Inc., a leading provider of secure broadband networking, Internet connectivity and routing products, today announced the ZLR-2070S, the world's first fixed LTE (Long Term Evolution) CPE/SOHO router. The ZLR-2070S is an all-in-one, multi-service gateway that leverages compact, system-on-a-chip (SoC) technology to deliver cost-effective, non-FPGA-based LTE connectivity. ZyXEL will demonstrate the device live at CES 2010 at their suite in the Renaissance Hotel.
LTE is the next major phase in wireless communications technology and delivers blazing-fast multimedia connectivity on an all-IP platform. Consumers will experience an impressive upgrade in services and performance -- on all Internet-enabled fixed and mobile devices connected via LTE. LTE also opens the floodgates for a new era of connectivity in industries ranging from consumer electronics to appliances, health care, public utilities and telematics.
Ideal for residences and SOHOs, the ZLR-2070S is a feature-rich, future-proof hardware platform optimized for multi service. This includes broadband Internet connectivity, two VoIP ports, home networking via a four-port, 11n wireless switch, a USB port (to share devices, such as printers and storage). Service providers also can use the ZLR-2070S to enable Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) and other smart home automation services.
Moreover, the ZLR-2070S offers data rates with up to 50Mbps throughput, which is faster than 3G technologies like HSPA / EV-DO. Based on the router's 4G wireless connectivity, the device is ideal for operators looking to provide service in rural or other traditionally under-served markets where new wireline deployments are cost-prohibitive. This level of portability also makes the device ideal for any scenario in which customers need high-speed, multi-user Internet access in a temporary location, such as construction sites or special events.
"ZyXEL is excited to lead the LTE revolution by bringing innovative solutions to service providers," said Brian Feng, senior vice president, key accounts business unit for ZyXEL. "We are proud to offer service providers the ability to bring wireless high speed Internet access to millions including those in under-served markets."

Catchiest name ever!
sounds more like a product i would expect to come with a warning label:
ZyXel may cause drowsyness irritability, uncontrolled gambling, acoustic neuroma, jive hands, the willies or the vapors. in rare instances zyxel has been associated with a case of the mondays.
@windzilla
You forgot loss of bladder control.

...brought you you by the good people at Prescott Pharmaceuticals!
"...a four port 802.11n wireless switch..."
Do you mean "...a 4-port 10/100/1000BASE-T switch, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless router..."
@Bender Bending Rodriguez
I was going to say the same thing. Wireless switch... must be something new. I would never buy a ZyXEL router.
@Bender Bending Rodriguez Maybe the wireless router can only support 4 connections. =)
I Want one for the car.
Neat! All I need now is an LTE network to use it on - I wonder if Three will change their name to Four when they roll out LTE?

About time. I have been looking for something like this in the market. Not that i would buy ZyXEL product but I hope it helps stir up some other brands to really update their products.

Something like what, specifically? CradlePoint already has a router on the market that has gigabit ethernet, 802.11n wireless and 3G/4G (WiMax) compatibility... And I believe all their routers will work with WiMax anyway, even the pocket-size travel ones.

50Mb, pass.
For now.

yoo cant
i think it means upto 50Mbps for the LTE connection, which is the max that can go over the LAN
Spectrum Apocalypse? Cant everything just go Spread Spectrum like the Radio Controlled hobby is doing with airplanes and helicopters?
50Mbps is great and all, but also a great way to burn through the 5GB 'unlimited' data cap that's going to follow data plans to LTE.
Am I missing something about LTE (4G), because I thought the purpose of something like LTE would be to have internet away from home? Why would I want to surf the internet on my phone in my house? Can I not just use my laptop or desktop? LOL...unless this thing has some sort of range that's out of this word!!!
They call the switch '11n' and call LTE '4g', in short they seem clueless about their own field and products, perhaps the PR people need to open a line to the rest of the company and get informed a bit.
I own the ZyXEL X-550 for 2 and 1/2 years now, for me it's the best router I ever had. I used to have D-link and Linksys, but the connection kept dropping on me, so after reading some excellent reviews about the X-550, I bought it and couldn't be more happier. I'm gonna keep my eyes on this new one too.
@wwhat think of it less as just a phone network and more of a super fast connection for your home without having to run new lines all over the city. Sure, it'll be used for both, but this router is just to grab the signal from the air (modem) and use it in your house.
I also have owned a Zyxel X-550 since 2/07 and it rocks! My old Linksys sucks in comparison. Why do people say they would never buy a Zyxel?
