Need a relatively respectable
DAP to shove in your next pair of gym shorts, huh? Yeah, we've all been there. If you happen to live on the right side of the Atlantic, Archos'
1 Vision just might be your ticket, as the diminutive, no-frills player is now available to purchase for the tidy sum of £24.99 ($41). For those in need of a refresher, this one's packing 4GB of internal storage, support for MP3, WMA, APE, WAV and FLAC files, compatibility with JPEG and BMP files and even an audio recording function for vocally jotting down grocery lists. There's still no word on a US release, but we're told this is the season for hope. Can we get a confirmation on that? Bueller?
Need more "Keep It Simple Stupid" in the world of gadgets.
Wow, that is an amazing price. Would make a great prezzie/stocking filler etc
@richb93 You would think the price is amazing but being Archos those supported formats; MP3, WMA, APE, WAV and FLAC files will cost you extra....each.
Oh good, another 4GB PMP! Are people actually buying these so much more than large-capacity PMPs that there's a need to keep pumping them out, but never release a competitor to the iPod Classic?
@CtrlBurn
The Zune 80/120 was the player that beat the ipod classic by a landslide. Better interface, bigger glass screen, built in wireless syncing, ect. The market for a big harddrive based PMP is shrinking because people want apps and a bunch of other crap that has nothing to do with what PMPs are meant to do; play music.
@CtrlBurn
couldn't have said it better myself
i want an mp3 player that can carry around my whole library 100GB+ with a little room for videos. Seems they've totally given up on this area of the market...
Actually it's perfect for the gym if you don't want to use/
trash your phone.
@jpoppyz
See that's one thing I hated about Microsoft in their handling of the Zune situation. They just put all of their eggs in one basket with the Zune HD, and to be honest they never fully supported the Zune. Why didn't they produce Zune software for the Mac? Why not just make Zune software the standard media player? Why didn't they get the Zune out overseas (licensing fees is bull for a company as big as Microsoft). With what I'm sure is a lower cost for producing the Zune, they could've lowered the price, undercut the iPod Nano and Classic and let the line flourish.
@feelthevibe That's exactly what I'm looking for...hello?? Bueller???
hi
I'd like to see a review comparing the Archos 1 to the Sandisk Sansa Clip+. I doubt this Archos unit would stand up to the Clip+'s sound quality and battery life. I guess the screen is somewhat of an advantage however.
@(Unverified) Considering Archos' existing entries into the DAP world, sound quality is likely a non-starter.
I've never heard an Archos player that didn't sound godawful.
@synaesthetic
you both nuts? there has yet to come a player that bests my xs202 in sound quality! it dumps every sony and sammy pmp and even cowon has a hard time beating it. and thats one of the main reasons i didnt jump ship yet for a more modern player. that and the lovely 80gb hdd ive thrown in a while ago.
Ah ... sounds good, but what's the connector type?
Something proprietory that youalways need to keep with you, or buy spares, or is it something universal like mini-USB that is likely to be lying about wherever there's a computer?
Proprietory turns this bargain into a bit of a duffer, IMO.
@blue
archos usually goes with mini-usb
Sansa Clip+ > this.
Sorry Archos, this would have been a good competitor for the original Clip, but the Clip+'s microsd slot (and exceptional sound quality) kind of leaves you in the dust.
@synaesthetic
dont misunderestimate the sound of an archos
OK - so I now understand - this blog is only for people based in the US and you don't want anyone else in the world to read it - hence "across the pond" makes complete sense. Get A Grip!
