You're smart right? Then you probably know that all those low-priced, off-brand digital photo frames with laughably poor instruction manuals and confusing user interfaces so aggressively hocked during the holidays share one common trait: poor displays. Unfortunately, most shoppers won't figure this out until they've brought the unit home. Fact is, you have to pay a little extra to get a decent 8- to 10-inch panel. And really, what's more important than the display on a digital picture frame? So check Samsung's new 800P 8-inch frame. It features an LED-backlit 800x480 pixel panel, 2GB of internal storage (plus microSD expansion), Bluetooth 2.0, support for video and music playback, and Samsung's second generation UI and panel-making expertise. On sale now in Korea for 199,000 of the local stuff or about $159 of the
almighty dollar whenever it heads west.
euro dollar? o_O

we need an edit feature if i dont want to look dumb cuz of my typos >_< lol
We best ignore that samsung in the past was caught putting high quality panels in their displays initially (during reviews) and then putting cheaper less high quality chinese panels in batches later.with no external identification to notify you.
@Wwhat seriously? I know it has nothing to do but I own a 46'samsung 550(i think this is the model) I should say this is an amazing tv for video gaming
@Wwhat
I like how you say that the cheaper panels are Chinese, when in fact they were made by AU Optronics. If you are going to be racist, at least get your facts straight.
@bigcow05
Lol, racist.. nice try, better luck next time.
When are they going to understand people don't buy digital picture frames. Although, my roommate had one with iPod dock, alarm, radio. it was neat
Wow, that was really misleading. When you say 800p, it usually mean vertical resolution, as in the case 720p or 1080p. 800x480 is usually noted as 480p.
@Icepop4who
My thoughts exactly. Pretty misleading.
@Icepop4who
800P refers to the model number, not the resolution.
Samsung 800P. 8=8 inch display, P=Photo frame?
800p indeed... tss
another thing, why do we have to have the brand name on everything, its really distracting on such a small screen
Yeah the Samsung logo looks like an advertisement.
Not too bad for the 160$ price if it had bluetooth or dlna/upnp support for syncs.
Why doesn't anyone make digital photo frames that look traditional ones? and with no branding? If it is any good then people will ask who made it. Otherwise you're just advertising that you have a crappy product.
@limmy do a google search for "digital frame", most of the results don't have a brand name/logo on them
@mrqs i wonder if they've been photosshoped out? I did the search and the top ones were all brand name frames e.g. Sony, Phillips, Kodak etc and the last time I saw them at the shop they all had their brand names prominently displayed. But I get your point. I was just generalizing.
@limmy
I just got a Kodak p725 and it has no branding, just a simple (and thin) black border around the screen, which is of pretty high quality and resolution.
does "the dollar" refer to australian or zimbabwean dollars?
@mrqs
zimbabwean
The quality of the screen is the most important thing on a digital photo frame. Not just image quality and resolution, but also angle of view is very important. Its why I'll never buy a photo frame blind - I have to see it in action
The second most important thing is not to have a giant bloody Samsung logo on the front. Its supposed to look like a photo frame. I've already paid you money, I'm not advertising you as well.
the other important thing, would be that it gets pictures from picassa, flicker or facebook, but it doesn't.
Im sorry. but for an 8" screen 800x480 doesn't strike me as a high quality display. show me something in the 8-10" range with at least 600-768 vertical lines and i might consider it. until then i'll stick with modding my old 15" laptops.
heck.. i have and old retail endcap promo display with a higher res than that.
Samsung makes great displays, but if I want to see photos in WVGA, I'll just look at my phone..
Great image quality to distract you from the cheesy giant logo and weird base.
I like the streaming aspect, that has some possibilities in my book.
Hmm. There's no mention of whether it supports video formats or they're interested in developing the use of secondary monitors.
I suppose that makes it not a 'photo frame' but it seems boring to buy something just to show photos on it. *shrug*
A digital picture frame is like having 11 toes. It's cool to look at initially, doesn't seem to belong and in the long run you realize that it's just useless.
