Think Electric returns from the brink, begins production of Think City two-seater
Norway's Think Electric may have managed to attract some backing from GE in early 2008, but it looks to have quickly ran out of cash after that, and was forced to completely shut down its operations about a year ago. Well, kids, dreams do come true -- or production lines can be started again, at least -- and after securing some funding earlier this year, the company has now announced that its two-seat Think City electric vehicle is now back on track for a release by the end of the year. That initial production run will apparently consist primarily of 2,300 cars that have already been pre-ordered in Europe, but Think Electric says it also plans to begin selling the car in the U.S. sometime next year, and license its electric power train to other automakers looking for a readymade option.

I didn't know Volkswagen Beetles came in electric!
Hopefully it'll earn a better safety rating...

the original concept of the new VW beetle was actually a hybrid. I remember doing the press workups on them.
Oh my God, nightmares do come true!
@Lectronsect
Yes they do. Apparently you have access to the internet.
@Lectronsect Hey you gotta die somehow, hopefully being sideswiped by a tractor trailer who was never able to tell you apart from the asphalt will be a quick way to go.
Matte, :)
@Bowsa
I like the color as well. I have a plastic Saturn that is 15 years old and the plastic panels hold up very well to the road salt and rain through the year. And without paint it should be cheaper and easier to keep looking new.
So...what are we talking as far as cost?
Is it just me or does this kinda look like the electric Gee-Wiz the British use? Those things are aweful pieces of dirt, the have the top speed of a horse, and run out of juice after twenty yards :P
@Spartan001 Personally, I'm freaked out by all these short cars I see on the highways now. I thought the Miata was a short car, but some of these look like straight chairs on tiny wheels. Most of them are twice as tall as they are wide. I want to find one in a parking lot and knock it over.
I've driven one, and they are pretty zippy. We got it up to 80KPH in a parking lot. (around 48MPH) I got it up to 68MPH on 495 in Massachussetts, but getting passed by an 18 wheeler is a white knucker. After a couple of days back and forth to work, you forget you are in an electric car. You never forget how small it is, though.
want, want, Want! (ok, maybe)
the flat black is nice - leave off the paint and sell it $500 cheaper
performance version?
Ok...a "Mind Box" is supposed to be standard equipment. Any idea what that might be?
How much money is this going to cost a perspective buyer?
looks more like a mini than a beetle.. somethin aint right here.
This 'car' costs € 37.695 in The Netherlands, including taxes (19%)
It's ridiculous. Look at Tesla or Lightning or Chevy Volt. Or even a freakin Prius for that matter! Which btw costs € 12.000 (!!!) léss then the Tink. Think again.

Come on {unverified} friends, log out and back in to choose a name, too many {unverified}s now
Engadget should have used people's old name and added unverified, or their account number, something to tell them apart easily.
@Wwhat

How come the car already has dirty tires?
@(Unverified)
A year's worth of closed-factory dust on the concrete floor.
Uhh.... Don't these guys know that black cars are one of the TOP causes of man-made right-wing global warming?
Let me know when it's available in mauve.
I live next to a factory making these. They claimed they would make this city the leading green city with these etc. I didn't know it was shut down. But i do know the price was so insane, nobody could buy those. Aproxx $80000. And govs taxes on using em, was even worse.
why are small electric cars always fugly?
rember that think car are based on old fashion sodium batteries and not new type lituhm batteries for thier main battery.
