Acer Liquid A1 hits the FCC with AT&T's HSDPA flavors
It's already selling in Europe with one of AT&T's 3G bands, but the prospect of a US-friendly Acer Liquid A1 just got real, governmental-involvement style. The FCC has approved a 850 / 1900MHz version of the Android device, and while this is no guarantee of an AT&T berth -- much of Canada is crowding in on this spectrum, not to mention the possibility of selling the phone unlocked and unsubsidized -- we're massaging our temples this very second with the appropriate good vibrations to get this thing out and about in the States and on the cheap.

Hot!
If we don't get an HSDPA HTC Bravo, this is the one for me.
Nice!!
AT&T desperately needs some android handsets, although I somehow don't see that happening until the iphone exclusivity deal has expired - which IMO can't happen soon enough.....
Indeed, ATT needs something really bad. I have been out of contract on 3 accounts for 8 months waiting on an Android device. I am not overly impressed with the design of this guy versus something sexy like a Bravo, but something is better than nothing. Click is ticking, I am giving them til then end of Q1 to have a subsidized snapdragon device, pref w/keyboard, into my hands or im jumping ship.
@helfrez I've also been out of contract, for 5 months, and I am not renewing my contract until ATT gets and Android phone that I want, until then my G1 serves me just fine...unless I get too impatient and switch carriers...ATT, are you listening? I don't want an iPhone!
The only thing AT&T needs is better 3g coverage. A hell of a lot of android phones are going to be released next year, they can pic and choose.
I got excited for like, five seconds.
Then I realized I'd rather wait for a HTC Android phone for AT&T.
@xBeRx
Yep, I can wait for the Bravo or X10.
I was hoping this phone would be coming to T-Mobile... kinda bummed out.
Hey T-Mob when we getting our 1Ghz Snapdragon Android device huh?
@BacteriaEP
Next month ;)

and the Bravo is gonna actually run at 1GHz, unlike the A1 which has been underclocked to 768MHz.
You WOULD give it to AT&T. Ugh.
Every time I see a gadget with a "Made in China" label I wonder why not only label stuff that's produced elsewhere, a lot less work in my opinion.
amazing functions, runs smooth, the screen is great,
but the 17 hours on standby kill it,
@Aevum "Battery: Rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. Capacity: 1350 mAh, Talk time: Up to 300 minutes Talk time: Up to 300 minutes, Standby time: Up to 400 hours. (The above are subject to network and phone usage)"
i think? i dunno where did you hear or see 17 hours? im not doubting you though im just interested in this phone and concerned with the 17 hours.
@(Unverified)
i have the handset, bought it from expansys (bunch of butt pirates),
i complained about the battery life, they advertise 400hours, and you get a nice 17-18 hour battery life, well, a 380 hour error margin is a bit more then "normal use and reception conditions"
It's already the cheapest unsubsidized Android; You're certain to be able to buy a better battery and still be cheaper than a Bravo.
Excellent! I know where my Christmas money is going!
Sorry, i wasnt clear about where i got the figure, i recived the handset yesterday, i havent properly burned in the battery yet, but it lasted from about midnight (100%) and it shut down at around 18:30, a around half a dozen 2-5 min calls, 20 min wifi use and around 5min GPS use, no BT use,
when it was around 60% i turned off data and 3G so conserve battery,
AT&T is getting Android handsets "soon", according to AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega. They *do* sell other touchscreen smartphones aside from the iPhone, it's just the star of their show for now, and for some time to come.
AT&T won't sell this phone because it is too much competition for the iphone, and that sucks because a lot of us that have their service want something better than the iphone.
I would like to have this phone. It'll keep e busy until the X10 releases...
ok, New round of testing, i did a complete battery cycle clear and now im going on 13 hours with 83% of the battery left, im expecting around 45-50 hours standy if the current consumption rate mantains itself, the battery needed breaking in (full discharge recharge cycle)
and you wont see any major operator touching an acer smartphone becuase even if these are actually made by a new acer unit which is the old E-Ten, acer smartphones (mostly winmo) have a VERY bad track record as for quality, i dont think any major carrier would gamble on them
This better not become branded by AT&T. I'd rather pay an unsubsidized price for the freedom to use it however the hell I want. Also, if branded, AT&T will place so much crapware and perhaps even disable a few features.
