Nao performs Star Wars homage, scores mad geek cred
While we're still busy thinking up legitimate uses for a humanoid robot, Aldebaran Robotics keeps finding newer and zanier ways to play with its Nao. The latest is a pre-programmed Star Wars routine that should have all you aging loyalists positively moist with glee, and even includes a terrific R2D2 impersonation that is not to be missed. Past the break, you shall find it. Oh, and as to real world uses, there are further videos of Nao reading out your emails and doing balancing acts, which may be found at the source link.

Amazing! Beats my Teddy Ruxpin any day!
@crimson400
Yeah! thats the voice they need to put in this thing. Picture it with teddy ruxpin voice; this will be a hot Christmas gift item.
WOW!!!!!
Simply Amazing... they just need to work on the voice a little more then this will be alright... They need to give him story tellers voice..
@305BuddyLuv I'm just waiting for LucasArts to partner with one of these humanoid toy robot manufacturers so they can make an officially-licensed C3PO and other Star Wars droids.
To save some space in the inevitable comment pages for this post, please just put your Star Wars references and quotes in a reply to this comment. May The Force be with you.
Would've been more impressive if they just had him reenact 3po's story to the Ewoks.
@mbushnell Erm... isn't that what they did?
@(Unverified) I think you need to go watch Return of the Jedi again.
@mbushnell That's exactly what I was thinking.
@(Unverified) He's saying you should watch it again because it's totally different from that. At no point does Nao say Chiminey-Choo-Choo, which is an important part of the story.
I want one!!!! I wonder how much they are going to cost for the home version........
Look it's Freezer from Dragon Ball Z!
@mbanks
It does.
That thing moves pretty well.
@One Love that's what she said. ;)
Call me when it can do my dishes and walk the dog.
@glamajamma
if you are to lazy to walk your dog, just get yourself a robopuppy!
"Robo-Puppy commencing two hour yipping session. Yip yip yip yip yip yip... "
(sorry guys, could'nt resist)
HAHA YEAH*
*most annoying fake laugh ever
That thing moves well, sounds pretty good and isn't terrifying, like most Japanese robots. Still, it's totally useless other than being a cool toy. When it can do my laundry (seriously, all I ever wanted was a laundry bot, washed, dried and folded) I will be first in line to get one. ;)
cool i want one so i can do that when i want
OMG! It's MEGAMAN!!!
wow..that is all
Next they need to come up with the Michael Winslow edition of this robot. That would be cool.
looks like we are on time JUDGMENT DAY 12-21-12 :(
how much are naos
@JackZaw
The store is currently closed, but showing a part of the store. I viewed the source code and got the link to "Nao Academics Edition" and was able to get the price. It's 12 000 euros, I was able to browse the rest of the store through that links, and the other products are like extras to Nao.
