Joojoo tablet gets its first batch of press shots, $30 dock accessory
Up until now, the only official shot of the Joojoo tablet was that seductive snippet of the corner. 'Course, you got a pretty good look of the thing if you bothered to watch our sit-down with Fusion Garage's Chandra Rathakrishnan, but it's still a pleasing sight to see the company push out a nice gallery of press shots to really tickle the senses. We aren't exactly sure if these guys have Cameron's approval to use Avatar screen shots to promote their product, but at this point, we wouldn't put anything regarding the Joojoo beyond the realm of feasibility. Oh, and if you were wondering how you'd eventually use this thing as an at-home movie viewer, the $29.99 dock accessory pictured above is the answer. One word of caution, however: given all the drama surrounding this thing, use that pre-order button at your own risk.
P.S. - Our good pal Chippy is suggesting that the only possible CPU / GPU tandem that could result in the claimed 1080p support and 5 hours of battery life is the Atom Z530 and the GMA500, both from Intel. Hopefully we'll hear something official in short order.

For me, the JooJoo Tablet checks off quite a few 'desirability boxes':
01) It's highly portable, beautifully designed, and looks well-built.
02) The screen is generously sized.
03) The GUI looks pretty well thought-out.
04) The price isn't ridiculous.
There's little doubt that I'll buy one, I just hope the performance is impressive.
@DaHarder You must have missed something. The GUI is slow and awful and ugly, and the touch sensitivity is practically nonexistent. Notice that Youtube videos dont even play within the page?
@Brad Green
The use of terms like 'awful' and 'ugly' represents little more than an aesthetic preference on your part, one with which not everyone will agree.
As far as performance goes i.e. slow GUI etc., I'm rational enough to take into consideration that these are preproduction impressions, and the shipping unit could be considerably better.
We'll see soon enough...

Without at least an ION gpu (I'd even be happy with ATI 3200), it doesn't make my wishlist. And wishlist seems appropriate since the potential litigation could keep this from production for a while, especially if FG is still looking for investors. Who would toss them any funds if their IP ownership is in question?
WHY are they not announcing full specs yet? Anyone wonder why? WHY would anyone buy one without knowing full specs?
@(Unverified) Idiots will - and there are a lot of idiots out there.
I have the "doo doo" in my hands.
Isn't it "accessory"?
I will say it looks sexy and is a step forward. As a graphic designer, I've been waiting for tablets to finally go mainstream (for the sake of choice / competition) for years. I used to read Pen Computing Magazine and play with my Palm V and just dreeeeeam of the day...(and I was only 12 haha). I for one am happy to see something like this making its way to market (hopefully...lol) if only to shake the major players into getting their products out. I am fully invested in the Mac world (MacBook Pro, new iMac) but products like the JooJoo and Archos 9 really seem to be pushing the envelope. I know Apple will make a great product, albeit maybe a little expensive, but I know HP / Sony / Lenovo will come out w/ really cool versions of their own. A Vaio multimedia focused tablet would be no doubt really sexy...or what about a Samsung tablet featuring the speaker tech and design chops from B&O? I feel like HP has been slowly testing the waters and developing the platform through their all-in-ones w/ their custom touch UI...and it would def be great to see that cross-pollinate onto a portable product. Either way, I'm excited for where products like the JooJoo are taking the marketplace, even if it isn't the PERFECT product for me.
I was excited the first time around when this was called Crunchpad. The feud surrounding this thing has really tainted it for me, and now I'm more reluctant to preorder it than I am a Pandora.
The hardware looks good. The UI has big buttons. In my book that means that functionality has been thought through well.
Unless good software functionality and the use of an ergnomic stylus is also part of the package, this product will remain just a gadget and a short lived succes.
First time I've seen it from the side. A bit chunkier than I was expecting. Hope it's not too heavy.
@FrankJ I hope you're lying. You have no idea what you'll get for that money.
To Thick, To Big.
@edude05
It's only $500. Not exactly a huge risk to take.
People have some pretty wacky expectations. $500 is a reasonable price for a first generation device in a new segment of the computer market. If it's successful in a limited market (technology enthusiasts, hobbyists, etc) prices will go down over time.
@(Unverified) Just ignore those people, cheap moron pretending to be smart, like every new items that's in the market, it require early adopter to buy in, so smart customer/cheapskate like them can get it at lower price in the future, yet they discourage everyone and ridicule buyers. Go figure what they want, a real product, something they can own in the future with price they are willing/able to pay, or trying to look smart, criticizing the obvious, being unreasonable, their actions seems to incline the later, thus you can never get anything productive speaking with them.
It looks pretty solid in my opinion though like one of the other commentators mentioned it seems a tad thick, aside from that I hope you can use one of those capacitive stylus that would be awesome.
That and I hope that there will be a SDK that some basic/advance programs can be added later.
It surprises me that noone has commented about the JooJoo being the ripoff of the CrunchPad, which was going to sell for cheaper.
Of course these aren't the first shots, go look at the CrunchPad site.
Also, this is never going to make it out of the lawsuit, unfortunately :(
@TDLinux
I take the above comment back, saw the article on the front page underneath :)
It's a far better article than Arrington's incredibly biased reporting.
From Laptop Mag's review it sounds like its just too heavy to use as a tablet (from the living room couch anyway). Maybe it needs to be smaller, or we'll have to wait for Tegra/Chrome OS based devices, or OLED screens this big... If its too heavy it ain't gonna work. Maybe that explains the latest rumors that Apple is looking at smaller screens...
So did Fusion Garage license copyright rights for the Avatar clips shown in their promotional shots?
@Rock Robster
Didn't finish reading the article. Bury me.
I don't think the GMA 500 supports 1080p video and that is an integrated GPU, I think NVIDIA ION supports 1080p video and Chandra said that the Joo Joo used a dedicated GPU. So I think that 5 hours battery life is achieved by using a bigger built in battery. I think though that the CPU is Atom Z530... Mmmm!
Well I did see that Joo Joo website and it has the tablet and dock in stock. :) Hehehe I rhyme!
There is a big mistake with the name. Joo Joo sounds like Jew Jew and that would offend some buyers of the Joo Joo.
@microshaftsux oh trust me it gets worst. Its a Singaporean product, where over here Joo Joo sounds exactly like what people call their boys unmentionables. Now how are you going to sell that to the local crowd?
I thought this thing was supposed to be like, kind of, a tablet, like _thin_ and stuff.
This looks more like a bathtub to me. What do these things need all that extra girth for? C'mon, it's 2009 people! We want our wafer-thin PADDs fercrissake!
