HTC Legend still looking good -- as a render, anyway
We got a pretty good glimpse of HTC's rumored Legend back in that huge roadmap leak a few days back, but now we're circling back for a better shot (and a few more details) of the probable Hero successor in all its roughly-rendered glory. High-end aficionados are probably still going to want to set their sights on the Bravo (or the Google Phone, Nexus One, Passion, what have you), but this sucker won't be a slouch, either -- it looks like it's signed up for a 600MHz MSM7227 and, more importantly, a WVGA display (turns out it's only HVGA). We'd already known this from the last leak, but what's new here is the presence of HTC People II and Footprints II, suggesting that Sense is going to get some sort of refresh to commemorate the launch. Add in the alleged metal casing, and we bet this thing's gonna be a looker in the flesh; needless to say, March can't come soon enough.
Update: As friendly tipster M. Schmidler points out, since the time of writing the source has corrected the resolution to be HVGA instead of the previously thought WVGA. Frowny face.

There should be a section in Engadget entitled 'Spoilers' and a way to avoid seeing it.
@Hydraulics
render....
@Hydraulics
If you don't like spoilers on new tech. then don't read tech. sites... because most, if not all, will report on information like this.
i'm a bit confused by the concept of not wanting to know about new tech... isn't that why we come here?
@Hydraulics X10 is going to cost an arm and a leg Nexus surely will although sources say it would be $200 unlocked of which is near impossible but if it proves otherwise then I might just sell another piece. Legend Prev: http://bit.ly/htc-legend-will-be-a-legend
looks nice..
@electron
I agree. An improved Hero I think.
@electron yes, very nice. This is the android I've been waiting for
@ChazClout
both two are pretty,but i can't find out the improvement except the processor..anyway i like it
is the chin back?
@husher
Yes it is. But more importantly, that little dot on the chin.Is that a touch sensitive scroll wheel like the one found on Blackberry 9700?
@Outsider
Yeah. Its a clickable optical. It says in the link
@husher
Just Looking at it makes me want to bend it Straight even if thsi will brake it.
I've never used a hero and always wondered ; does the chin get in they way when you type in landscape mode on the virtual keyboard? I might get this phone but i'm a bit scared on that point
@kitsune
I have owned a hero for a couple of months now and its fantastic, Ive never found that the "chin" ever gets in the way of typing.
@husher
HTC, how difficult is it to add call and end buttons on the vastly empty space on the chin? It would only add to to the beauty of your phone and improve the functionality hundred-fold. Please think that this is a phone as well.
TIA.
@Maddy
Is there really any need for a call and end key with all functionality on the screen? Presuming this has a proximity sensor then there's no reason to have an end call key (it's the only thing I use my end call key for on my Hero, and that's only because the screen is usually off when I finish talking). My call button never gets used, what's the need when you're already navigating on the screen?
@martynmcfarquhar
I use my call and end keys quite a bit. The menu, back, search, and home keys are related to phone operation when the user has to look at the screen anyway, so it makes sense to make them soft touch and keep them grouped with the screen.
But, as for the call and end keys, I use them even while not looking at the phone. e.g. pressing the call key twice calls the last person called. This is very handy to keep attention on the road while driving. Pressing the end key ends the call and also blanks the screen when not in use. it also doubles as the power button thus obviating a separate button.
IMO, it's a phone first and that feature should not be ignored. Anyway, the empty space around the trackball does not look that good and is doing nothing to add to the phone's usability.
@Maddy
Also, call key invokes the phone app from anywhere in the phone. If you need to make a call, I do not want to wait till the home screen loads and then invoke the phone app.
I don't know if I am feeling the green at the bottom but the phone sure looks real slick.
@ChansteR I can say, truthfully, that green makes the phone look horrid.
@ChansteR Its called paint ;)
@ChansteR
HTC do have a little way to go on their choice of good colours, the graphite coloured Hero looks great...but offering it in brown? Seriously? Hopefully there'll be a nice range of colours, not just the Android-green.
Oog oog ooga ooga HA
HA
HA
Ook ook
@NickNick
That was quick
Psht, another "not real android" phone
@yulebellow hUh? What is real android then? You mean non-skinned? It's still real android, and you can just turn off the skin if you don't like it, or install another one.
Good article. Is this better now than then Diel?

Another ARM11 smartphone... Please HTC, DITCH ARM11
@Dudeman
This is not ARM11 based.
@fanboykiller
It is actually.
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a7227&c=qualcomm_msm7227
@Dudeman not everyone needs a cortex a8 you know that
@Dudeman
While I need a cortex A8 device, it makes sense to have a lower cost alternative like this as it seems that the high end HTC cortex A8 android slate device is taken care of with the passion/google phone (whatever the hell it's called)
>green
>Green
>GREEN
i like the red ALOT on image from the roadmap way more than the green.
@(Unverified) Maybe it'll be offered in both? We need some nice highend smartphones with color options. Seems like all the phones with any cool colors are low end and pathetic.
@iCello
I completely agree about smartphone color choice. I think the reason a lot of phones come with boring factory colors is that companies figure everyone's just gonna skin it in some ugly rubber hot pink case
(every rich girl who owns a BlackBerry)
I can't tell you the last time I saw a non-cased iPhone... really I can't remember
@iCello
hopefully, yes. probably, no.
absolutely loving the metal casing accents.
Sexy. Great color choice for the bottom, although I just might be biased.
the return of DA CHIN!!!!!!!!
How does the hero get a successor and the doesn't?
@B3astofthe3ast because who cares about the
@B3astofthe3ast
Because "the" was a terrible handset, that no one wanted.
Meant the G1 lol
@B3astofthe3ast
The Hero is the successor to the Dream, otherwise known as the G1, thus it's called the G2 on T Mobile.
I'm slightly disappointed that they didn't stick a WVGA screen in the Hero, it can be done yet HTC decided to stick with the HVGA screen from the G1. That's the only thing bothering me about the Hero (apart from the camera, but I guess it's adequate), I've never had a problem with the processor being underpowered.
@Kieran
Isn't the Magic(My Touch 3G in the US) called the G2 on T Mobile?(I assume you mean in Europe)..and the Hero is G3?
Cell phone names are far to complicated!
Please, the G1 has no successor, it has to have a keyboard for me to even consider it.
@B3astofthe3ast EXACTLY!
@zap2
The Magic is called the Magic on every network in the UK as far as I know. It's only the Hero and Dream that are called the G2 and G1 respectively on T-Mobile, the Hero unlocked is still called the Hero and as far as I know the G1 was never sold unlocked and so was always called the G1 over here.
@B3astofthe3ast
Tbh the virtual keyboard is so good that a hardware one isn't really needed. I'm sure one of the recently unearthed phones from HTC has a physical keyboard, not sure if it was an Android or a Windows phone though.
