Continental to launch in-flight WiFi in 2010
Looks like Continental is the latest to inch closer to our dream of WiFi on every flight: the airline just announced that it'll be rolling out Gogo in-flight internet service on 21 Boeing 757-300s in its fleet starting in Q2 2010. The service will cost $4.95 and up based on flight length, and the 757s in question mostly serve domestic routes -- we're hoping Continental takes a cue from American and US Airways and lets passengers check to see if their plane is WiFi-enabled.

Price is not that bad :)
@Bowsa
cheaper than starbucks
I guess it makes sense to start with the -300s since they're older and aren't gonna get livetv like the newer -7/8/900s and 757s. Hopefully it will eventually go fleetwide.
Dear Continental,
Welcome to 2009.
Regards,
Virgin America/Delta frequent flyer
$5 flat fee? That's pretty good.
@WhatHappened
"...$4.95 and up based on flight length..."
Nothing flat about that...
@(Unverified) $4.95 is a flat fee because thats the base fee u have to pay anyway. Or so says one of the definitions.
They're rolling it out on their 757-300s, not 737s. I got to experience a few different iterations of CO's IFE at the weekend and I was impressed with a couple of them. The first had LiveTV for $6. The second had pre-recorded shows on demand.
Unfortunately, the only plane of the kind in question here was less than spectacular. Hopefully one of the newer systems will be part of this upgrade.
Better hurry cause even Greyhound now has Wifi onboard

Flying on most american airliners is worse then grayhound.
Havent traveled on Greyhound lately, have you?
I had the opportunity to try out Gogo on Delta last weekend, and I was surprised at how good it was. Not sure I'd pay for it on anything less than a 3 hour flight, but it was neat.
One other problem is that you've got to pay per flight, which is a little stupid when you're taking connecting flights. If they gave you a day pass, that would work a lot better.
@erwos
agreed. i tried out gogo on delta as well. i didn't run a speed test, but i was more than impressed with the speed at which it pulled down (or up ;) depending how you look at it) web pages.
hint for everyone: if i remember correctly, the promo code DELTATRYGOGO will get you free wifi through december 31!
Small(er) Canadian airlines, take a hint!
Theres a bunch of small airlines in Canada that operate Boeings 747 and up and Airbus 320 that dont have in fight wifi (or good entertainment for that matter)
How fast is the connection? Streaming video worthy or are we talking checking email only?
Excellent. Something to do when jumping the puddle between the UK and the US (serviced by the 757-300).
This is awesome news!! I fly Continental all the time and their customer service is way above the others which is why I keep flying them. Glad I can finally do some emailing and work on the plane instead of sleeping. Nice job Continental!
BTW that photo is of a 737
Sure is.
