Verizon begins internal webOS training
We always knew Palm would be bringing the Pre to Verizon sometime in early 2010, and it looks like preparations are underway: check out this leaked internal training slide, which describes a 20-minute Palm / webOS training that runs until January 4th. Interestingly, that's the day before CES, so we're guessing we'll be hearing something about all this during Palm's CES event -- and if we had to guess, we'd wager that that updated Pixi with WiFi will somehow figure into the mix as well.

Well this was unexpected....
@SolidSnake
I hope this helps some people:
What's really UNEXPECTED is Verizon's surprise add-on pricing for Android, WinMo, and now Palm Phones (unless you dig for, and read, the very very small contract fine print).
To activate these phones, you must ADD a $29.99 "data feature" PER phone, on top of the plan pricing.
If you have a 2-line Family Plan, that's an additional $59.98 for 2 phones! Yikes! (per Verizon, these phones have a lot of features).
To top it off, Verizon has disabled VCast and VZ Navigator on Android phones! More money, Less features.
Also, corporate discounts only apply to the primary line - Ouch!
This is all very unlike what Sprint provides their customers.
@SolidSnake
Verizon is by far going to have the best line-up in smart phones in the best Network in the U.S.. Them getting the Pre, Pixi, plus a maybe a new WebOS device very impressive. Add the HTC Passion/Dragon and they will have no competition + The iPhone?
@Ted S
"To top it off, Verizon has disabled VCast and VZ Navigator on Android phones! More money, Less features."
...Why would I want that crap on my Droid when I have the perfectly fine Google Maps Naviagation and thousands of other apps that can do... whatever the hell crap VCast can do?
@MowDownJoe
Think about what you just said and answer this:
Why would you want to PAY Verizon MORE money and yet be DENIED access to useful features available on lesser phones?
Answer: Doing so, only makes more money for Verizon and you clearly lack any real-time experience with VCast or VZ Navigation.
It's a surprise and loss that Verizon has chosen to disable these features for the premiere Android, and perhaps, Palm Smart phones.
Experts acknowledge that paid apps are, often times, more thorough and useful than free apps.
That said, I can also attest to the fact that Sprint Navigation features, accuracy, and usability on both an Android and WinMo phone is easily on par a Garmin GPS dedicated device....and it's included as part of the Plan with no extra fee.
@liftedngifted1 VCast and VZNavigator are bloatware. They were the first to get deleted off my Storm. And Verizon charges you extra fees to use them.
@SolidSnake
What's unexpected is how the Verizon Reps/Moles are trying to hide any posts which easily explain, and exploit, their surprise pricing and feature structure on Android, Blackberry, WinMo, and Pre phones and how Corporate Discounts are actually applied.
e.g.:

More MONEY for Verizon, Less CHOICE and features for the customer.

@Ted S
I never thought I'd see anyone complain about the removal of VCast and VZNavigator. I've found them to be completely worthless.
"Doing so, only makes more money for Verizon"
I'm no economist so I'm just guessing here, but I think that including Google's free apps instead of Verizon's pay-to-use crapware actually translates to a loss of money for Verizon.
@o29
Consider this:
Charging Android, Blackberry, WinMo, and Palm customers a $29.99 "Data Feature" surcharge, while denying Android customers the choice of services, equals more income for Verizon and less choice/services for the consumer.
If you have an Android on Verizon, you can't even compare and make your own decision....it's been decided for you by Verizon.
Sprint give you the choice, Verizon doesn't.
All of which, is a indisputable fact.
Regarding the Verizon Navigation, it is known that it is not on par to Sprint's Navigation by Telestar.
Having a Sprint Touch Pro 2 and a Sprint Hero, I know from experience that the Sprint Navigation by Telestar works very well and is an essential and very useful app.
@Ted S Verizon is absolutely terrible about gouging customers and crippling phones, hence why the iPhone never made it there. People thought ATT was bad at first about that kind of stuff, but Verizon would have been twice as bad. I really hate how Verizon operates, which is why I've never considered them before I got an iPhone. I don't care how great their network is, they suck as a business. Even if they did manage to get the iPhone, I'd still stay with ATT since the coverage in my area is perfect. Especially now that Verizon is hell bent on locking down their customers in their contracts ($350 ETF).
@Ted S All smartphones on all four carriers have forced smartphone data. Its nothing new, and nothing surprising. If you didn't expect all smartphones in the future to be this way, you're an idiot.
@Ted S thanks for all that useless information Buster. Yikes! Ouch!
Shazam! Palm finally gets the spotlight it needs!!!!! EPIC LOVE!
450 minutes and unlimited data.... is ten dollars more than what sprint has now. Good luck with that.
/love my pre
//can run more than two programs at once
///suck it iCant
@RobertBruce1975
Palm troll fail.
Why cant everyone use whatever device suits them and STFU?
@RobertBruce1975
man, give me a break with the multitasking issue on the iPhone. Every single post about a different OS than Apple's gets this stupid comment.
If you really need multitasking then dont buy it, or better yet just install Backgrounder app after jailbreak. It's very easy and it works great.
And i know you'll bitch about the jailbreaking part, but on every single mobile platform people who install modified software or homebrew apps get the most of their devices. It's no different than installing a cooked ROM for WinMo or Android in order to make it run better.
@BogdanGC However, jailbreaking voids warranties and is illiegal, at least according to Apple.
Accessing homebrew on webOS is not only allowed, but Palm has actually encouraged it.
To get a simple feature, and be asked to jailbreak? Ah, naw?
Imma gonna get you a Quietus pack for Christmas.

Apple troll fail.
Verizon's contract lengths only last for two years.
Do your homework next time you fail at trolling..
Heard from my sources at Verizon that its dropping late January (th 26th I believe). Have not heard anything about the Pixi but I would assume that would follow in its big brothers steps sooner rather than later.
@(Unverified)
Your last name wouldn't happen to be Jobs, would it?
@(Unverified)
"A iPhone OS"
as if you didn't already sound stupid enough :-)
@SolidSnake
Methinks you missed the point of his post entirely.
@(Unverified)
Every carrier offers 2-year contract lock-ins. I don't see the point of this comment.
Wait, so their getting the Pre as well as the IPhone? On top of already having the Droid? Isn't like kinda a monopoly?
@LoganSmith
No - a monopoly would be if Verizon bought AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile and then charged you $1/kb of data.
Offering a wide selection of phones would just be referred to as "listening to the consumer" or "smart".
2012 is getting closer
@joe23521
Methinks i shouldn't have been downranked for that. But, thats just me.
Who needs a Palm Treo with it's what (4) whole apps?
When the DROID is here.... Quantity is not everything
but I prefer my 20,000+ apps over the 4 that palm
thinks people want...
http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/15/android-market-hits-20-000-apps-over-60-percent-free/
@MJ
Why not have both. People can have variety in not just apps but also in choice of devices. Droid is a nice phone for sure but there are those (like myself) who prefer WebOS over android so why not give customers the ability to choose for themselves?
Great news for Palm for sure. I just hope that for sprint's survival that CES brings a new Palm flagship device (with improved WebOS/hardware) for Palm/Sprint. If not, when Verizon gets the Pre/Pixi, what exclusive flagship device will Sprint have to lure in customers?
@(Unverified)
No way! Palm just came out with the Pixi and the Pre is barely a year old. Just update to WebOS already.
I honestly doubt they'll unveil a new device since they just came out with the Pixi.
@kesando
I would hope that inexpensive service (comparatively) and a fast data network would sell Sprint by itself, butt that's not as sexy. Plus, a Pixi lacking WiFi puts a check over to Verizon.
Hopefully Sprint will benefit from some upgrades Palm is going to throw out there and nothing is exclusive to any carrier.
@Anders
hehe. butt...
The Pre definitely needs more exposure. It needs more people supporting it and buying their products to keep them afloat.
Why Palm....EXACTLY
Rumor has it there will be some things that will be offered on the New Pre for Verizon. Thats what Lowell McAdams said in Q3 training for Verizon Wireless. NO idea what it could be but I am excited to see.
webos is nice...
meh.. android is much better, trust me..
SENT FROM MY DROIDDROID
Basically, by the end of 2010, Verizon will be a company that has been of sizzling and sizzling until it exploded into a ball of pure amazazing awesomeness.
20 minute training class. Say what you will, but WebOS must be very intuitive if you can learn all you need to in 20 minutes. (and for once I'm not being sarcastic, and view this as a good thing)
One of my friends is an engineer for Verizon. He's been testing Pre for a few months now so this is no big surprise to me, but I'll try to send in some pics if I can get my hands on it!
Sprint sucks. Everybody knows that.
Hopefully Palm can limp out one more phone with some amazing specs. The Pre and Pixi are too slow/outdated for my taste but WebOS rocks
@cardbored Your funny. The pre has the same processor as the iPhone 3GS and thats not fast enough for you? You must have a quad core in your phone, to think that is slow.
