BlackBerry email down / delayed in North America (update)
nna be a long day for BlackBerry users: RIM's confirmed to multiple outlets that its BIS servers are acting up and that email services are being delayed -- and we're actually hearing that they're just down, period. BlackBerry Messenger still works, though, so you can still BBM your BFF or whatever the kids do nowadays. No word on service restoration, but we'll update you when we find out.P.S.- That's two months in a row with significant BIS problems -- what's up with that, RIM?
Update: ... and we're back!
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

@Bender lies!
@(Unverified) haha! Seriously though - looking at my outlook inbox and my blackberry and they are identical including emails i received as recently as 2 minutes ago.
So glad I sold my Berry, I dont have to put up with this crap from RIM...
Droid Does work.... :)
@MJ
...except when there is a Gmail outage.
@(Unverified) Which seem to be far, far less frequent than the BIS outages we've been seeing.
@(Unverified) Wrong. a Gmail outage wouldn't stop all email from coming to your Andriod device. It would just stop the Gmail e-mail account. And if you were pressed, you could just tell colleagues to use another e-mail. With BB, you cannot do that. You lose pretty much everything as it all goes through the BB server.
I've got email all morning
I have been enjoying my new 9700, but due to the outage I had to lovingly slide my SIM card into my iPhone this morning. The iPhone seemed to like that.
@(Unverified) iPhones are naughty like that.
I don't understand how RIM can honestly keep supporting the current email model BB's use. This isn't 1999 anymore. We aren't on 2G technology anymore. The devices can handle the bandwidth and the rendering. Sure, BES has its places in the world. But to use what I like to call Ghetto-IMAP is just silly nowadays.
If you want to limit me free access to Exchange, fine, but don't limit me elsewhere.
On a related note, think how much $$$ they'd save by essentially turning off half of their proxy servers and having data go direct to the device!
Down for me (Sprint in Wisconsin)
Sucks, just picked up the Tour last night too..
@mattallica Set it back down?
Well at least it can't hurt the stock to much since no one can get that email out to sell RIMM
When this happens does it take out *everyone* or does it take out just people who use BB servers and their corporation doesn't have their own server to do the Outlook or Notes to BB synchro?
@Trekkie my company has its own server and all is well. that said RIM still does the push themselves so...
@Bender
Ah interesting. I've been in my office most of the morning and hadn't been using my 8330. I just looked at it and the email time stamps seem correct. Usually when there is something wrong/no signal they all have the same stamp because they are all coming in at once when it catches up. So dunno if I am affected.
The Canadian servers are catching up. All e-mails accounted for and the delay is down to a few minutes now. You can't make me hate my Blackberry.
the problem is also hitting us here in South America, althought it seems to be getting better, as email has starte trickling in..
How about letting people CANCEL their data plans???? If they don't want data, don't make them buy it. Some people have no need for data due to Wi-Fi access being readily available - or they just don't think an extra $XX is worth it for data. Give them the CHOICE.
@trainwrecka
comment system fail. this was suppose to be on the AT&T post.
I've been sending and receiving all day, nobody I work with that has a BB seems to be having an issue either.
I have been getting my email all morning. No issues here. Indianapolis
We have seen users down all morning, some since 2:00am CST but I just got a confirmation from one that was down earlier confirming that he is now receiving mail again.
Still lagging by about an hour here in LA. Overnight e-mails from midnight and later didn't arrive until 9am Pacific. For those without issues, you're (1) lucky and (2) probably not on BIS.
I'm trying to down load a upgrade and it stopped at 99% 7kb left and is doing nothing what the hell....
My Berry has been flaky all December
Whooooo-eeeeee.... Whatupwitdat, Whatupwitdat!
South Jersey here... No emails until 12:00 EST. All seemed to come through at that time for our office.
back at 1:17ET for me...
wow, between sprints network outage last night and RIMs outage this morning it sucks to be a sprint user. especially those of us who are having severe hardware problems that sprint just doesnt seem to care about anymore.
i wish i could afford to start service with someone else right now or i would.
all i can really say is once i can afford to plop down money for new phones and starting new service, g'bye sprint and crackberry.
@harbingerofdoom Between this, Travis Henry dying and earthquakes in Nebraska, the Rapture must be near.
@harbingerofdoom Sprint outage? Before blaming your phone problems on the network, you might want to reset your phone.
Moving over to DROID...forget you, blackberry;
Expensive data plans, FTL.
loved the fast blackberry email when it was working but i am glad i switched to the droid it never goes out
Hey guise...my fb isnt updating to my 'berry, wat i do?
BTW: The ENTIRE Tmobile network seems to be down right now across the board.
Really wishing I could trade my BB 8330 in for something else right now, stuck on contract.
Palm Exec: "Its ok, it ok, its JUST in North America...."
Reporter: "All of North America?! Seriously?"
Palm Exec "It's just affecting the entire continent of North America, it shouldn't affect too many of our customers..."
Reporter: "Ah, Ok...when you put it that way.... wait, what?!"
i didnt even realize it until i saw this, but i havent gotten any emails delivered since about 1pm EST. And now that I check their info, there was about a 2.5 hour delay between email sent time, and the time it was delivered. hmmmmm...
@Ki113dbysw0rd actually heres some info: 3 emails recieved today: 1st recieved @12:30pm EST, email info states it was sent @9:18pm YESTERDAY. 2nd rcvd @12:40pm, info states sent @7:27am Today. 3rd rcvd @12:44pm, info states sent @ 10:11 today.
I have a Blackberry on T-Mobile.
Screwed.
I'm in NYC and have had no email all day.
@jjasonham More like "I have . . . T-Mobile. Screwed."
That's what you get for routing your email through an additional server. Idiots.
