Time Warner didn't say who it was targeting with the
heavily-slanted RollOverorGetTough (Spanish language version available at
www.cederoponersefirme.com) website recently, but now that Fox has yelped like a hit dog and launched its own campaign at
KeepFoxOn.com we can see where this is going. While Time Warner's latest press release claims victory from over 400,000 visitors overwhelmingly voting in favor of Getting Tough on price gouging programmers, Fox is claiming it seeks only "fair compensation" and is fulfilling its "responsibility" to prepare viewers for losing their channels. The Fox website hypes up switching to satellite and all the programming that could be lost if Time Warner does not opt to continue its agreement to carry Fox networks, and pointing out everything that's at stake: House, 24, several BCS games and more. The only ones we truly have sympathy for are the customers in the middle, hopefully this slapfight ends in time for them to avoid missing even a second of precious TV, just like
the great Viacom near-miss of '08 - '09.
Fox sucks! They barely have enough content for 1 channel in HD now that want 300% more money to pay for the HD conversion.
I refuse to pay for more SD content on any of FOX's networks.
*shrug* I ditched Time-Warner over a year ago because their HD selection and quality was pathetic. And don't even get me started on the hassles we had with the actual box they provide. I get Fox and most of my other locals in HD via rabbit ears. Everything else is on Dish Network. TW is irrelevant in my world.
Eh, just another programmer/cable company slapfight. When will these companies realize that we don't NEED their services?
Memo to Fox:
One word: BitTorrent
All well & not so good. But why is it that ABC Network proper is the only major network that does not broadcast the audio in 5:1 Dolby Digital. I receive it from 2 sources DirecTV & Cox Cable. So It must be on ABC's end. They have never responded to any e-mails I sent.
1) ABC in my area is 5.1, in the area north of me (that I can also pick up) it is 2.0. Contact your local ABC channel as they are the ones downconverting the sound.
2) 95% of these TWC customers can probably slap up an antenna and get Fox just fine. Recording is a little more challenging, but the NFL, and NCAA (FBS) will still be there to watch in HD...possibly better picture that TWC provides to top it off.
So, if we choose "Roll Over," they'll increase our rates. If we choose "Get Tough," they'll take Fox off our cable.
Thank you, Time Warner, for giving us the choice of how we get screwed!
@Brendan H
I agree. Time Warner are a bunch of idiots. I'll leave them when Uverse finally gets to my area.
@Brendan H that just made my day :)
who cares? the only show worth watching on Fox is The Simpsons. I can catch that on Hulu. I'm not affected by this, but big deal. NBC is the only network worth watching.
