And how are the soccer moms going to update this exactly? By acessing adb you say? That would be funny....
@SmoothMarx
I would suspect it will be pushed over the network and install automagically.
@SmoothMarx yes, but, like I said, it WOULD be funny if it were true...
@olemarc that comment above is actually directed at you, not at myself. But don't take it offensively. :)
I heard something similar from a Barnes & Noble employee in Chicago on Friday night. The refresh is supposed to "speed everything up" - the e-ink, the touch screen, etc.
Hey Laura maybe you would like to change "downladed" to "downloaded." I don't want other commenters to make fun of you.
@AndroidRokz major c+p fail.
@AndroidRokz Too late. Codebreaker is just too darn quick...
@Laura June what does c+p mean?
@AndroidRokz copy and paste. :(

*Page turning and formatting of downladed eBooks has been improved.
shit, i forgot to downlade my books this morning, am i still eligeble for the upgrade?
the books on it still suck though
Not saying anyone 'copied' anyone per say, but out of the corner of my eye I honestly thought the top of the Nook was a Mac OS menu bar (The Wi-Fi, battery, and time w/that color scheme are like... really, really close).
Maybe I've just concocted tablet fever like everyone else this winter. Hrmph.
What is the incentive to put out polished well working hardware now days? If you are small company and do something well after working hard on some hardware you may get a posting on engadget. Its solid reliable, innovative, has quality, just works. You get a posting. Now lets say you make the same innovative item but its buggy. You get an initial posting, you get discussions about its failing on the podcast, some people argue its merits, some argue its potential. You then release another update that fixes some issues, you get another posting....... rinse, repeat, rinse
What is the point as a hardware maker to actually make good hardware the first time out ?
@jozero
well that would be software/firmware not hardware
@jozero
also, first impressions are HUGE
Don't people have to actually HAVE one to update the device?
@solarpos No kidding. Here's hoping mine actually ships on Jan 4th.
I can live with the current UI quirks, but the page turning speed is maddening. If this makes the page turns as fast as a Kindle 2, then the nook will turn out all right.
Heres hoping that these updates don't affect the Nook rooting projects
@camroncake
Same here - I don't actually own one but I hate it when devs release updates that intentionally break homebrew *cough* Microsoft Xbox 360 *cough*
Yea, hopefully the one I order back in early November, due to show up NOW 20th of January will have the update.
Woops - I just canceled my order. Oh well, I'm sure it would be delayed again until May 2010 or later.
It's pretty great the effect these blogs have on tech these days. You can guarantee the pressure put on by the tech community and blogs such as Engadget helps push these firmware updates faster then they used to.
This is the reason why I cancelled my order. Upon waiting weeks for delivery. But it's too late now. Got a Kindle 2 and I love it.
"Displays the correct time on the status bar."
... how did they not catch this before it went to production?
@midkay No offense, but you're obviously not a programmer, are you? Sometimes seemingly obvious defects slip past QA and end up in production.
This is live. Nook just started the download automatically while I was in the Settings menu.
Have had my Nook for over a week. I was not unhappy with it at all.
Got my update (to V 1.1) last night. Tried the Nook this AM when I got up. It's now flipping pages faster than our Sony 505. Also a few other updates that make things better. Things are looking VERY good.
From what I see, it's all GOOD and it will just get better!

Mine updated this morning. Have not tested, but I really hope they fixed the last page read bug. My nook constantly forgets the last page I read and defaults to my previous furthest read page. Also when I looked, I think the version was 1.01.
Got my update this morning as well (1.1.0). B&N has done a ton of cleanup to the Nook it seems. It runs much faster, starts the wireless connections faster, pages turn faster. UI enhancements are as stated in the article. I love the fact that Reading Now actually takes you to the book your reading without any additional steps!
My daughter just got her nook for xmas (I'm soooo jealous!) and, sure enough, dog-sloooooooow! I'm looking forward to her getting the update.
update seems to work better, but I had downloaded ebooks from my local public Library and the nook could no longer find them. I looked at the nook's directory from "my computer" and copied the files from the folder which worked before-- Digital Editions--to the actual "My Documents" folder, and it once again found my ebooks. I had been on hold with B&N customer service for 6 minutes before I decided to go my own way :)
