Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 hits the FCC again, this time with AT&T's 3G bands
Yes, you might recall a version of Sony Ericsson's mighty X10 getting FCC approval last week -- but this one isn't quite the same. This time around, we've got WCDMA 850 / 1900 accompanying the quadband EDGE, which is heartwarming news for anyone on AT&T, Rogers, Bell, or Telus, though the complete lack of branding on the FCC's test unit leaves us to speculate wildly over which of those carriers (if any) will brand the unit -- and more importantly, whether any will be on shelves before frickin' 2011. In the meantime, we're guessing SonyStyle sales are a lock -- so get your save on.

i'm so glad this has att 3g bands and hopefully it gets at least android 2.0. I wish it had a physical keyboard but those seem to be less common these days and so I have to get used to a virtual keyboard again (i hate the iphone keyboard).
However, I don't want it to get subsidized because att is going to slap on their ridiculously expensive data plans for smartphones when I can just use the cheap family data plan for the x10 as i have been with my n97.
@kyriostrife
I'm doing the same thing your doing, but it's really better for it to come out on AT&T. You just have to go in to the store and say that you don't have an account, and you want to buy one without a contract.
This is better because even without the 2 year contract subsidizing the price, the no contract price is likely to be less than if it was just sold through Sony (I'm guessing $500 vs. $800). Then you just pop the sim card in to the x10 and use the cheaper plan.
@scottyonlive
if this phone gets to ATT you won't be able to use the cheaper plan. Once they have the smartphone in their system they'll throw on their expensive data plan... it happens with any unlocked phone you buy that they actually sell in stores.
n97 for instance, works with att but they don't sell it. so the phone isn't in their system and i don't have to pay an expensive data plan for it.
yeah $800 is alot but we could work around and find some deals. i'd rather pay the higher price and have a cheaper plan.
@kyriostrife
i should have added that they detect the phone you're using and they'll know when it should have a data plan.
@kyriostrife
Well there is truth to the fact AT&T can detect it, I've heard of people getting away with it. Theres ways to prevent the detection (I know Windows mobile has apps that can prevent it.) But I've heard of people getting away with it, without blocking. I don't know about android though.
And if I'm reading these articles correctly, it sounds like it might be legal to use the X10 on our cheap plans.

Those make it sound like what were doing is legal and were exempt from the changes and could keep our cheap plans.
@scottyonlive
Yeah that's all good and well but the detection is the biggest issue. Once the phone is in their system and they know you're using a data plan, they'll add it for you.
You get detected shortly after you put a sim card in your phone. For instance, I have an old samsung flip phone that I got from cingular which is in their system. When I check my account online, a generic phone picture is attached to my account when my sim is in my n97 because their system doesn't recognize it. As soon as I put the sim in my samsung, the picture of that phone shows up.
So they will detect it. I know of people getting plans slapped on when they bought touch pros unlocked. I would rather just have it unbranded/unlocked... but what sucks is that I would have to wait for a good deal.
@kyriostrife
Even if AT&T did get it, it wouldn't surprise me if sony still sold it unlocked, and if they did that, it most likely wouldn't be much more than the no contract price. It can be used on other networks easily, and they would want that.
But I just can't stand to pay sony $800 for this phone. I already did that for my X1 and I regret it. It's a good phone and I like it, but sony hasn't come through on updating any of the features (thank god for the XDA Devs). With the X10 running android, I don't have to count on sony updating, but they already got my money.
@scottyonlive
well it'll be sold unlocked regardless, whether ATT gets it or not.
and yeah, the high price of the x1 is what prevented me from getting it unfortunately and I wouldn't spend 800 on the x10 either.
as with android, sometimes it's independent of developers and google when it comes to updates. but i guess we'll have to wait and see with those updates
AT&T customers, don't buy this in Utah or I'll go out of my way to brake it for you...
AT&T stores, don't sell this in Utah, or I'll go out of my way to smash them.
Sony Ericsson, FUCK YOU! Once again you pass T-Mobile with your awesome phone.
I hope these are to expensive for people to buy. That way you loose millions and are forced to shut down.
@Philosophics
...uhmm... this phone went through the FCC website last week with T-Mobile 3G bands.
@Philosophics
you're in idiot
is this goes to AT&T i am totally getting one. :D
@(Unverified)
If it goes to att's BANDS... i'm getting one. if it goes to ATT... I'm not.
@Philosophics
i don't see what the problem is when it's coming to T-mobile as well.
i'll get an x10. and next... you'll get one as well?
@Philosophics
I dont know what your problem is, Tmobile is getting great phones in 2010. HTC HD2 for example...and this is said to work with Tmobile 3g. What are you complaing about?
I am going to guess that the oomph of this phone being released will be deflated by an announcement of a new iphone running a similar hardware platform (snapdragon). Which is just want apple wants and at&t does not want to admit.
@PEZ excellent point. the snapdragon is the natural next step for the iphone. and from the looks of it, it won't be on att but on verizon.
whatever happened to the X2? i guess WinMo 6.5 is such a nonstarter they trashed the phone. oh well.
@kevintex
All that talk of the next iPhone being on verizon is just that, talk. (Rumors)
I just hope this phone will be sold unlocked and unbranded. Lately, ATT has been getting out of hand with all the crapware they install on their phones.
This XPERIA(AAD-3880074-BV) is an article for Japanese markets.
It will be released by NTT DOCOMO.
NTT DoCoMo is the first operator in Japan.
It is written as NTTDOCOMO / SO-01B on a label.
SO-01B is a model number of NTT DoCoMo.
It uses W-CDMA2100/800 in Japan, and W-CDMA1900/850 is global roaming.
I hope it comes out with ATT bands and it sony doesnt go crazy with their asking price. Also, if it does I hope they've worked on the UI a little more cause it still seems to stick and stutter from the videos.
p.s- hope they pull 2.0 out too!
