Diffus pollution dress is turned on by CO2, prefers a clean environment
We've seen LED-laced dresses before -- though sometimes we'd rather we hadn't -- but this one here is almost refined enough for us to consider wearing. Stitched together using conductive embroidery, hundreds of LEDs are connected to a CO2 detector and react to its input with anything from a slow pulsating glow to a blinking signal of doom. No mention of Morse code messages, unfortunately, but this is run by an Arduino chip -- which means programming malleability (read: near-limitless possibilities) should be built in. Just know that when you see the next Bond girl communicating with Daniel Craig via her haute tech outfit, we had the idea first. A closeup of the dress and processor awaits after the break.

So I'm guessing androgynous is back or something?
@Level 5 Nope, it's just a boy in a dress.
@Level 5
Why is that young boy wearing a dress? Maybe he wants some Engadget tech-nerd love. More Samsung articles, please.

@Level 5
Anyone else see a slight resemblance to young Rick Astley?
@DWells55
+0.5 (+1, but -0.5 for putting "Never gonna give you up" in my head..)
For real... those Samsung chicks are Hot... !!! Yesterday's was eye candy... I mean if this "woman" was the model holding an Android phone with a 4" screen, 2GHz processor, 2 3.5 mm jack, HDMI output, 10G capable, triple SIM card, 14.7 MP camera with 5 xenon flash, built-in printer, 5 mm thin with slide out keyboard that has a tab and ctrl key.... SHE WILL MAKE ME HATE THE PHONE... yes it's that bad :S
@Level 5
no, and having no tits with a man's haircut will never be 'back'
He looks pretty pissed off
@therockr92
Well he did lose the bet didn't he.
@DWells55
Now I'm just disturbed on many levels, and have been mentally Rick Rolled.
@Level 5
When I posted this comment about that girl with the Android tattoo: "She really puts the "andro" in Android", it was quicly deleted by mods. But this is allowed to stand? Good grief!

@Level 5
Someone works on his eyebrows...very feminine and prankly.
@Level 5 this happens every couple years. some "edgy forward-thinking" fashion designer tries some new way to get men wearing skirts. one of them finally realized how much we love gadgets and thought by combining the two we'd become men who wear skirts.
Since when was carbon dioxide a "pollution"? Last time I checked if there was no carbon dioxide all the plants would die and as a result we would die soon afterwards. This dress is obviously made by total morons.
@Frith
Totally ignoring the global warming is/isn't happening debate, anything in the wrong amounts can kill you, and dumping harmful quantities of it into the air would be pollution.
The real question is "how much CO2 sets off the dress". If it picks up normal concentrations then it's not exactly a pollution detector and more of an attention grabbing stunt.
@Frith
CO2 as a covalent compound makes oxygen easier to pass through (speeds up electrons), therefore, when released into the atmosphere composing of O3, it creates the small supposing "ozone-hole", which opens a path to UV rayss on the earth, and results in melting ice-caps (which have a great impact on earths ecology).
nevertheless the dress is still crap, i wonder if any woman dressed in it will be let into a social place.
@Frith
You are stupid.. what if there is not enough oxygen ??
What if all the water of the planet stays UP at cloud instead at sea rivers and poles etc ?
You don't care if there not enough water to grow plants or give the animals to drink or even if people die coz water?
Take a brake from your Windows 7 burger and playing with your i-fart app and think for a moment.. there has to be a balance.. otherwise we die.
@ssHoll
@Blastar
Your post is incoherent, yet you call Frith an idiot for pointing out the obvious that life would not exist without CO2. At least the previous two repliers before you indicated coherent yet non-inflammatory rebuttals to his response.
You are drinking the Gore kool aid that he so wishes you would lap up into excess. What annoys me about global warming are the extreme zealots such as yourself that are crying and fear-mongering (just like you accuse Glen Beck of doing) and incapable of giving rational points over global warming because it has become over-politicized and is no longer about the true science.
It is my opinion that there are worthy debates to be made over CO2 on both sides of the coin. Please keep your ignorant, fear-mongering comments to yourself and your environmentalist pals.
I agree that you should not call CO₂ a pollutant, but that doesn't mean excess isn't harmful and that we should tone it down a bit, and that it causes or not causes global warming is also not that important, overpushing it just can't be good.
I do think there's too much focus on it incidentally, I mean there's tons of very toxic and immediately harmful unnatural substances leaked all the time and now nobody cares that much anymore as long as it doesn't have CO₂ as a component, that's just insane.
@Frith
Just a quick statistic because I think everyone is misinterpreting what Frith has said.
Mt. St. Helena released more CO2 than all of humanity has- ever.
Clearly, CO2 is needed, but if it ever amounted to such a large number that it began to trap enough heat between the ozone layer and Earth, then that COULD be an issue. Right now however, I think there are much bigger problems that we should focus on- like saving ourselves before saving others.
It always reminds me of the airplane instructions, when you're supposed to put your O2 mask on before you put on a child's. Well, we've ignored that instruction.
@Wwhat Lets also not forget that of all the humanitarian things we can do to save lives of people--our money would better spent (have a larger impact) if we tried to rid poverty and malnutrition all over the world versus tackling global warming. Both of those things kill more people each year than global warming is predicted to kill. Also, the global warming fixes proposed could hurt undeveloped countries by making energy more expensive than it already is.
@Rick James Anyone who thinks Glen Beck is a reasonable human being and former Vice-President Al Gore is a raving ideologue is dangerously unstable and possibly from bizarro-world.
@willengage Way to prove his point willengage. All you did there was call Glenn beck listeners names. Do you actually have any FACTS to support your claim? Of course you don't. All you know how to do is spout the same name-calling propaganda that is shoved down your throat by the state controlled media. Enjoy your Koop-aid.
@willengage
I think you misinterpreted what I was saying. I was saying that if you are going to accuse Glenn Beck of being a fear monger, then you should also blame Gore and every other politician of being a fear monger. Its just how politics are played no matter what side you are on. Politicians play the fear mongering card plain and simple.
@willengage
Btw, thanks for resorting to name calling and jumping to conclusions. Thats the way to prove a point--always. And Merry Christmas to you (I'm sure that pisses you off more than anything).
@Art
one fart ?
@Rick James
You are ignorant as well as many other people like you.. and they are many sheeps like you that think that they are right.. Yes Money can blur your thought as well as guided TV chanels. I hope you die in hell :)
@Rick James
"Lets also not forget that of all the humanitarian things we can do"
I'm not that crazy about people to be honest, I prefer nature.
What! No hot little Asian model? This girl depresses me.
She looks so... sad.
@phobic99
Only because she's wearing the fart detector prototype.
@FxDr
I bow to you. Funnies post today. Look a penny.
Ill admit, I think shes hot.
@jandrea95
You'd like to do Tinkerbell, too?
@jandrea95 I think Tinkerbell is way way way more girly that the model depicted on the picture.... Maybe he will like like what Zack Hefron lol
I don't really know his name but the guy from Musical High School
@jandrea95
The only reason I looked at the comments is because I find her mysteriously alluring. It must be her symmetry.
I read the subject as "Doofus pollution dress".
She's mad because everyone knows when she farts.
That is one ... not attractive model... Another woman would have made the dress look very sexy ...a real BOND girl... with curves and pose and sexiness... and lips... one that inspires "She's a very kinky girl... the one you won't take to your mother... She's a super freak, she's super freaky Weoooooww".... but not that girly manish one :S
This...is insanely stupid. What's the point of a dress that reacts to CO2? Is this supposed to be some kind of global warming thing?
@zachbeale
forget what the compound is, the point is, the dress would constantly be changing color, etc, it would be dynamic, ... they just picked CO2 because, um... lots of people at a party would make it change alot, and having it react to Xenon might not really be that cool.
@Wesscoast
Well why not oxygen? Nitrogen? If it's a party dress, why not heat? The only reason they would pick CO2, at this point in time, is to make an environmental statement.
Maybe sound, even.
Wow, those lights are the only "turned on" thing about this photo.... geessh, back to the loch with you nessy!!
On the label;
DON'T GO TO L.A.
and,
Make sure no-one around you is epileptic
@(Unverified) Hilarious post !!! In Mexico City , the person inside will get smoked. :S
that man/woman "model" is terrible...
can we ban people for blatant sexism please
@Uncontrol This is a free country where we are free to choose who is sexy and who ain't .... and by democratic vote... that ain't sexy ... I am sorry if you were offended though... it was not our intention.... however, we are used for gadgets to be accompanied by smoking hot chicks so... it is not our fault.. we raised like that :{0
