Fujitsu LifeBook UH900 in action: good benchmarks, so-so multitouch
Step aside, VAIO P, Fujitsu's managed to take too-small screens on netbooks to new heights with the UH900, and the addition of a touchscreen makes you seem seriously early 2009. So, how does it perform? UMPC Fever is feeling it, with a CrystalMark score helped along by the UH900's SSD, even if done few favors by the 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor. Unfortunately, while the touchscreen display does offer multitouch gestures, they seem rather laggy -- as demonstrated in the video after the break. And thus we witness the odd disconnect of "laptops" and "phones," as the screen size and processor speed borders on a merging point and the interaction styles (or at least the execution on those styles) almost couldn't be further apart.

FIRST
WTF? Nice bezel, dude. What a ridiculous screen.
Oh, and multitouch? What exactly has that been shown to be good for after several years of hype?
Um hm.
@Information Central
SERIOUSLY, half of the device is a fucking bezel. I'd prefer my tech not to look like a LeapFrog Leapster. Ridiculous.
@Information Central
If I remember correctly there are some cool multi touch gestures for windows 7, I don't actually have a tablet myself so I haven't used them, but it seems like it could be useful for some things. But as for pinch and zoom like they are showing, yea thats not very useful at all.
@Parias
NEEDs a wide screen like sonys vaio p
@Information Central No offense, but "the bezel is too large" comments are a bizarre preoccupation of Engadget commenters IMO. Device after device has received the dismissive "I don't care what it is or what it does or how much it costs: that bezel is just too large for me to want to own it." And then the Vaio P is released. Does anyone know anyone who owns a Vaio P? I have never once seen one in action. Do any of you "bezel" commenters own a Vaio P?
@cobaltage
People on Engadget are more tech savvy than the usual consumer. We see something that looks like shit, and we want something better.
@Information Central UH900 debuts with an MSRP of $999, but Fujitsu is already offering a deal. You can nab the little clamshell for $849 after $100 rebate and additional $50 price drop
I say,, sleep over it! Latest: http://bit.ly/fujitsu-uh900-price-updates
Eh, i'd still take one. Any chance you'd be reviewing this, Paul?
what a useless little piece of crap...
i bet it probably cost like $2000.00 too!?!
i would just get a smart phone over that.
"Step aside, Vaio P"? Is this some kind of joke? This thing looks like a piece of shit and it's definitely not intended for the same consumer group.
Interesting device.....but more importantly, whos in the shower?
All that bezel makes me look slim.
Meh-idiocre
it would have made more sense with a larger screen.
Okay, these bezel comments. Whatever. The Nintendo DS has a huge bezel. And yet, it's extremely popular.
What a conundrum.
windows vista/7 on a Z530 based anything is slow, stuck Xubuntu on my MSi X320 and everything was super fast, windows on a desktop yes, on a Z530 based machine, forget it.
I've owned the U1010 (stolen by a courier on its way to repairs) and I have a U2010. This device is just soooo cute! Sure, I'd love a Vaio...if it ran XP! LOL. These devices aren't designed to run Microsoft Bloatware (Vista) or Microsoft Bloatware 2.0 (Windows 7). Stick XP on it and feel the burn. My old U1010 was pre-installed with Vista Home, and I forcibly downgraded it to XP using drivers from the U810. I doubt such luck with this device. I use my 2010 it to take down lecture notes at uni, the weight is awesome and the keyboard one with dainty female fingers can use.
