Samsung's 14MP CL80 packs integrated WiFi, 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen
It's not impossible to find a camera with integrated WiFi out there, but your choices are unquestionably limited. Thankfully for those in the market for such a device, it seems as if Samsung is gearing up to release quite the formidable opponent. Without so much as an official press release, the CL80 has emerged on the outfit's website packing a 14 megapixel sensor, optical image stabilization, a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen (capacitive with haptic feedback), a 720p movie mode (H.264), microSD expansion slot (groan...), USB 2.0 connectivity and an above-average 7x optical zoom. The Instant Upload feature enables users to upload their shots to Facebook, Flickr, Photobox or Picasa, and for those who prefer to capture motion clips, it'll also shoot your videos to YouTube when a hotspot is found. Nary a word has been spoken regarding price or release, but we're going out on a limb here and surmising that much more information will be revealed at CES.

holy shit man its 4:15 in the morning go to bed and sleep in! its christmas for heavens sake
@monkeyontherun4
America is not the only timezone in the world, but I do agree about the chistmas thing.

@Heysoos
granted your right about time zones, but the time stamp does say it was posted at 4:15 and that is 3 hours ahead of me so i know its eastern time. so if he wasnt on the east coast then that means he is elsewhere.. im not even sure im making since anymore blah
@monkeyontherun4 is that since or "sense"? :P
Only what? 15%? of the people do xmas, make it 50% if you count those forced to play along, that still leaves plenty of people though.
@monkeyontherun4
Not everyone is Christian.
@Bash23
So? What's your point? It's not all about you either.
microSD ?
Those things are too small... in physical size, not capacity. Then you still have to carry a microSD to SD card adapter to put it into your laptop.
I have a Sandisk card reader that had a dedicated microSD slot... so at least you can use it easily.
@Michael Scrip Yeah, what the hell. One of the best things about SD is I can jam it straight into my laptop - no usb dongle or fiddly media converter required.
I suppose they expect you to use wifi most of the time.
@Michael Scrip
i imagine that the only reason they did that is to save real estate on the printed circuit board inside there so they could cram all that other crap in there for all those features to work, say like a wifi chip which most cams dont normally have built in. just figured i'd give you guys some insight as to why they might have done that, but yes i do agree that they are way to small, you could drop it into the crack of a sidewalk and you'd never get it back, and yes having to use a micro sd adapter card is also stupid.
@Michael Scrip
The thing has built in wifi, so I'm guessing they were banking on users uploading their photos wirelessly to flickr or their computers wirelessly, instead of physically pulling out the memory cards etc. If it's an easy process to do the above, they very well could be right in assuming microSD wouldn't be a deal breaker.
@Yemble
Hey, that's my avatar.
@Michael Scrip
I carry a microSD reader on my key ring all the time instead of a memory stick. Also I've converted all my memory card devices to microsd. I have a memory stick adapter an SD adapter and a Compact Flash adapter. So everything is one format and I don't need any bulky multi-memory card reader.
@(Unverified) >> "The thing has built in wifi, so I'm guessing they were banking on users uploading their photos wirelessly to flickr or their computers wirelessly, instead of physically pulling out the memory cards etc."
Hmmmm... is that faster than using a card reader? And will programs like Photoshop Elements or Picasa be able to pull pictures off the cards over WIFI? Or just copy the pictures to your computer?
I understand how it will be cool to upload your vacation photos to Facebook while you're still on vacation using the hotel's WIFI... I just hope it's easy enough to set up an ad-hoc wireless network or whatever when you finally get home. Lord knows we don't want people to have the only copy of their photos stored online and not have a copy at home. And I can't imagine how long it would take to send giant 14MP pictures directly to Flickr all the time.
I'm using Sandisk Ultra II 15MB/s cards now, and I can transfer 1GB to my computer in less than a minute using a card reader. And it's easy!
On the one hand, it would be cool for documenting your vacation by uploading pictures on the road. But, I'm afraid that it will create bad habits for people who don't understand the importance of saving local copies on their computer, organizing them, and making backups!
Too many megapixels, I think.
@einhanderkiller
I know. Talk about overkill.
Awesome! Now pull over the $400+ price tag :D
@MegaJapan
Agreed if this is 400 or less its my next camera.
anyway, in my own personal experience, samsung = garbage
@an0nymous
Love it, they make awesome cameras
@an0nymous
I have to agree.
1 gr8 personal example is the Samsung Magnet phone which is pure garbage. The bluetooth on that thing is as if they didn't put one in it to begin with.

Samsung can be a bit hit-and-miss, even in the same categories, they can make lousy and great monitors, lousy and great cameras, andsoforth, all in the same year under the same name.
But whatever is the case they at least try to put lots of new stuff into their cams, although it's often pearls for the swines, techsites never really appreciate it.
actual camera control buttons >> touchscreen
@bebop yeah I'm thinking that too. In my experience touchscreen's on Samsung devices haven't been that great. I don't think I'd like having no physical buttons and putting smudges on the screen...
@bebop
I recently got a Canon S90 and the 2 dials means it's like using a very small SLR. I can't see myself ever wanting a touchscreen on something that only functions as a camera, unless it still has the hardware controls to go along with it.
Says it's touch with haptic feedback, so you can feel responses, it's interesting and typical for samsung to try that on a camera.
why can't they use 3.7 inch amoled screen on their smartphones instead on cameras that a behold 2 would look awesomer
@jamal the behold 2 would have been better with a larger screen and less buttons
@jamal You never heard of the Omnia HD or Omnia II?
@Gery but those two have crappy OS's w/ touchwiz and not android.
the back shot of that camera...................................... is one of the nicest looking phones i've seen.
why 14 megapixels ???????????
buttons would have been better than touch screen, also SDHC instead of microsd would be better, apart from that it looks pretty good:) I wish all cameras did 720p:(
Not everybody celebrates Christmas.
I like Samsung products for the most part particularly their LCD panels. The only product I have really disliked was my WinMo 6.1 phone I had but I don't think any brand could help a WinMo phone.
MicroSD is great, I have spare ones from my old phone lying around. With WiFi you should never need to pull it anyway if you have a decent sized card.
I don't want 14 billion mega pixels! I just want a chip at least 5MP that's at least 1/3" (preferably larger) in size so it can take decent photos at night.
This is cool.
Capacitive? Ok, how do I take pictures when the temperature is below comfortable?
I'd rather use buttons over any kind of touchscreen on a digital photo camera. But I love 3.7 AMOLED screen (though haven't seen how it works under direct sunlight).
They forgot to add.
"Higher price tag, more features, still takes crappy photos."
@GV2811 I'd have to say that I'd never buy another Samsung camera. My daughter, myself and my son all bought 3 each of a Samsung model digital camera last year and all 3 failed the same way with crappy lens mechanical mechanisms. Sorry Samsung, in our opinion you'll have to creep out of a deep hole on that as far as our family is concerned.
wonder how much $$ this will be??
What no GPS geotagging??? Darn it!!!!
where is the multitouch?
They cram to many MP into this tiny sensor. This camera looks like same size as mine Samsung SL720 which has terrible image quality (photos, video is ok) at 12 MP. I suspect this one will be same or worst. Or maybe I'm just spoiled by 5D MkII
