@bosox
Hmm..only took about 5 seconds for me.
@bosox Please give more detail on the Sprint TOS. I signed up 2 months ago, I can cancel?
@bosox I just did it in under 6 seconds...maybe you should webOS Doctor your Pre?
@s33ker They are instituting a 4.99/month charge on your account if you have a spending limit, this means a change in the contract so you have 30 days to get out of your contract ETF free. This 4.99 charge can be avoided by simply enrolling your account in some sort of autopay, such as from a credit card/debit card/checking account.
@Demo22
I was exaggerating. I timed it and it's between 7 and 8 seconds consistently.
Unfortunately it's still unacceptable to accomodate 8 seconds lag when using the most common function likely performed with this device
Yeah thanks for exaggerating....
WebOS Internals is also reporting that "Two of the 1.3.5 update packages are opengles.ipk and opengles-omap3.ipk - yes, the groundwork is now there for GPU support."

@SteveBoroughs
Can't wait for CES!
@SteveBoroughs
support for OpenGL ES! Flipping. AWESOME. Keep it up Palm!
GPU support and implementation is what we have all been waiting for. This is good news.
dear palm.. please make a nice thin 3.7" tablet
Yay, no more beta app store!! It looks pretty good, now they just need to fix it so those annoying apps with demos are all clunked into one instead of seeing it in XX.XXX amount of variations!
I wish my phone had the same text in the picture. Instead mine says, (in effect) "sorry your network is two slow and therefore can't download the update."
Guess my excitement will have to wait until I get home (Wi-Fi). I can't wait for the Pre to be released on another network. Sprint's refusal to upgrade the towers in my area is unacceptable. I even called to ask a month ago to which I was told, "There are no planned or forseeable upgrades to the network in your area at this time."
Yes... that's verbatim what I was told by the last of two representatives.
*sorry for any typos/incorrect spelling*
@pachi72 thats like saying apple is dead back in 1999/2000 and 2001.you'll see.palm 'ell show ya..(heath ledger joker tone)
one thing not mentioned in the update log via palm is the web browser touch inputs are more responsive. multitouch pinch and zoom is much much smoother, and so is scrolling. rendering also appears faster, more on par with mobile safari. not just that but webosinternals discovered the underpinnings and groundwork for enabling the gpu.
My only problem since updating is inability to download apps. None will download. Anyone else?
@anthporter dont have that issue. just dled a free app and went smoothly.try rebooting your pre, and worst case scenario pull the battery after you shut down.
@iamisaactorres I tried that but still doesn't work. App down loads but I get a message that system needs to restart to update settings before istall can proceed. Happens with all apps. Even lost 7 apps that had been working just fine.
Download is working for me, and it is really fast.
@iamisaactorres
Palm won't be showing anybody anything until they get the hell away from the horrid Sprint network. In order for any of these companies to compete, they have to offer their flagship devices on AT&T or preferably Verizon. Some people may complain about the price of Verizon, but I will gladly pay a little more to be able to use my phone almost anywhere in the country.
I updated it in my Pixi. Haven't attempted to use preware (but I heard it was broken and will have to be reinstalled) but it does seem to be much faster! I'm happy.
@MrMylanMan yeah it seems preware will have to be reinstalled using webOS Quick Install. but no biggie, will take like 2 minutes at most to do that and you can get your pixi all patched up and downloading homebrew apps in no time. make sure to check out presteriods...really promising looking alpha asteroids app built using canvas wrapping/html5
Shoot, It runs quicker, Now we need the apps to pour in!
This will probably be my new phone, along with Sprint, in November when my renewal date is up with T Mobile. Either that or the Palm Pre2.
Glad they fixed the messaging problem and sped up the calendar. However, my time is off by around 12 minutes because it cannot sync with network time :/
My Palm Pre is now really fast.
Using the App Catalog is at least 3 times faster. It feels as if I just got a new phone. Wow, this is a big update.
I also heard that the battery life is much improved. I have not tested it yet. I used to get 5 hours to 10 hours on a full charge for heavy to moderate usage. If I did not use the phone much, I would get about 2 days before having to recharge the battery. Anyway, the upgrade to webOS 1.3.5 is looking good. Thanks Palm.
Still no SIM Toolkit... looks like I'm going to give up on the Pre and get something else instead of my iPhone 3G :o(
Big speed improvement, very happy.
@dmgabe
So att shitty 3g coverage is better than sprint when sprint is way more dependable and has way more 3g coverage than att. Unlike the iphone the pre does give you a great 3g experience for about $40 dollars less. And didn't you see the other posts that the pre will probably will come to vzw thats a good move going to att is the worst move ever.
i love the UI on the pre.... but thats about it
You are dropping the ball with this phone Palm.
Where was this update months ago?
I, and many others abandoned the Pre due to battery life.
I won't be looking back until Pre 2.0
Good try though.
Palm Pre - Big Improvement In Battery Life! Over 8 hours of heavy usage.
Based upon my test, the battery will last all day at work. Most people will not use their phone continuously for 8 hours with the screen fully lit.
I tested my Palm Pre phone by turning the display into a flash light and running multiple applications. It took 5 minutes to drain 1% of the battery. At this rate it will take 8 hours and 20 minutes to fully drain the battery from a 100% charge.
In informal test, I have used the Palm Pre after installing the new webOS 1.3.5 update with pretty heavy usage and it has lasted for over 8 hours with 20% of battery remaining. At this rate, if I use the Palm Pre as a regular phone, I expect it to take at least two days between charge. This update has breathed new life into my phone.
The biggest things I've noticed are:
- Emergency dialing is much more difficult to do by accident from the Unlock screen. Previously, it was very easy to call 911 by accident when playing with the phone in my pocket, or even by two consecutive mis-presses when unlocking the phone.
- The Pre is much faster and more responsive. The difference is huge.
just did the update. it killed my palm profile, wiped all my email accounts, deleted all my txt messages, and contacts. HELP! palm says they are all gone. I go not use gmail, or exchage so i rely on my palm profile to work. this freaking updated just killed all my data! WTF palm, why cant you make it so i can easily back up to my pc! F' this
It seems a little embarresing to me that they call erasing appointments older than 3 months a speed update. Yeah calendar is faster now but Palm Centro/Treo always showed all appointments and was super fast (could even search through them all).
