Sprint says webOS 1.3.5 is hitting the Pre today
Well, lookie here: it's not up on Palm's support site yet, but Sprint is showing a release date of December 28 -- that's today, by the way -- for webOS 1.3.5 on the Pre. This is a pretty nifty little upgrade, you might recall -- nifty enough to get none other than CEO Jon Rubinstein to name-drop it during the company's most recent earnings call -- thanks to the removal of the platform's troublesome app storage limit, better performance, better battery life (particularly in weak cell coverage), and a host of bugfixes sure to put a smile on your pretty face. Let us know how those updates go, alright?[Thanks, Gon Kim]

Does this add video support ?
Define "Better Phone". I got mine the day it was released, and have had 0 problems with it. I prefer the vertical slider to the horizontal slider. It fits very well in my hand, and despite my size (I'm a pretty big guy), I don't have an issue with the keyboard. "Better" is relative design-wise, but I do know someone who's on their 5th Pre. Hopefully they've worked out the quality issues, but I can't think of a phone I've loved more.
On that note, the only thing I could think with the "Pre 2" (or Pre Pro or whatever they're going to call it) is to make the screen larger and increase the memory to 16 instead or 8.
No update showing for me yet in Milwaukee, WI....
Me either in Charlotte, NC.... whats taking so long? My battery life sucks, hopefully this does the trick!
@AR Holy S@#T Really! I cant wait!
@AR Where do you live?
@AR "1.3.5 screwed up my patches i mean everything i installed through preware didn't show up as installed so i had no clue what i had and didn't have and it didn't say when any patch/app had an update. also a bunch of them like landscape email virtual keyboard and web browser mods couldn't be re-installed. thx in advance for anyone that has the answer :) oh and i just thought of something, will palm ever block preware and should we be worried about updating like iphone/psp/wii users should be?" RicanS4 from Precentral.net, Do you think is true?
@abootin You're supposed to uninstall all OS patches before updating. This is the standard protocol for all updates. Patches change OS files, and if it conflicts with an update, it will cause issues. Also, usually after a major update like this one, some patches have to be updated for the revisions. Palm's given the homebrew community nothing but help and encouragement, and even advices developers to release on preware to beta their apps before submitting to the app catalog, so I doubt they'll ever outright block it, but they can't try to keep every patch from breaking. It's not their job.
@Cin How do I uninstall all 144 patches I have at once?
@abootin There's a thing in Preware called Emergency Patch Remover. Use it.
No update showing for me in Minneapolis.
I often wondered when they were going to address the fact that when the signal is low the battery just disappears into oblivion.
Excited for the update, this article has been out a few hours and its almost 12 so I wonder when the update will be released.
I await it with baited breathe.
@kylegato some phones just function better in a low signal environment. My parent's house lives in a signal hole (surrounded by 3 hills in northeast Massachusetts), and we can't even get Verizon signal.
Whenever I would visit them, my signal expectedly drops to zero (-105+ dB). When I had my Curve, my battery, usually a 2 day powerhouse, was gone in 3 hours (at full charge). My girlfriends storm was even worse. Now with my Droid, I can go about 6-8 hours in the same environment without having to recharge.
I do have the wifi on constantly as well - however, I do not know if that is a detriment or a bonus. It might eat battery life faster, but it could also do some data sharing, and take the 3G load off of the radio and have it search exclusively for 2G.
Regardless, I do believe android has put into place some code or similar that rests the radio from endlessly searching - something the Blackberry doesn't have. Or from the sound of it, the Pre doesn't have either.
@Dapke36 I've experienced the same battery issues you've had when using a Verizon BlackBerry with little or no signal. I'm hoping I can get a new phone soon (possibly a Droid), so your news about battery life on there is reassuring.
Hey is this the update that unlocks the GPU, or do we have to wait until CES for Palm to announce the GPU unlock update?
12:24 p.m. No update available yet in Central Florida...
I say its about time for more app space... The most infuriating thing about this phone right now is not being able to download any more apps!! I mean theres only like 800 to choose from but still...
Has anyone seen the actual update yet? its 11:31am in Tulsa, Ok and no update for me yet...
@tenaciouswho
Tag. I'm in Dallas, TX so I figure we'll get the update roughly the same time!
Before I tell my GF about this, does the phone updat itself or do you need to check for them? She's the Pre owner and I won't know what to tell her.
@Denver80203
You can manually check for updates in the Updates app, but the phone will update itself over the next couple of days.
@Denver80203
There's an icon on the Menu screen furthest to the right called "Updates." The update isn't available yet (not for me at least) but have her check there later today.
@Scape3d , @ DrDr
Thanks guys. Gotta be prepared ya know.
Awesome! I can't wait (typing this from my Pre)! Damn, I love my Pre.
1:06P no update here in D.C.
only the infopedia bug haha
1:10pm in NY -> no update yet =(
Palm Pre FTW!!! =)
My phone says I'm running the latest release.
damn it!, i gota stop checking for this not-yet-existing-update while at work, it's running my battery down!
1:48pm in Kansas City (home of Sprint Headquarters!) and no update yet. *thumbs twiddling *
Is there ANY chance to get SIM Toolkit on the Pre in the very near future?
@abootin yup, yokken's right. Use the Emergency Recovery Patch to remove all patches at once. Now reinstalling them all after the update, THAT'S always the annoying part :/
And yeah, no update here in New York City yet either :/
Refreshing my Updates app like it's a Woot-Off.
better battery life would mean the pres only problem is unfixable-poor keyboard
Honestly this palm OS is great on the pre. I had mine since it released. They just need to make it faster. Im still holding on to mine with faith in palm that they will pull through and get this damn GPU working already.
Not showing the update here in Phoeniz, AZ
Not being able to update yet here in Phoenix, AZ
Still no update in Oklahoma... still really stoked about this update though :)
5:35pm in NY >>> no update yet =(
Why is it that every story about the Pre erupts into some troll-rich highly contentious debate that is completely unrelated to the actual story?
@paullangda
you could say the said trolls behavior is premeditated
@Gi
haha PREmeditated :)
I love gadget wit!!
lets go back to the original story... did anyone get it yet?
Downloading it now in Denver CO. 6:02 pm
Sweet - Now for 2.0 I want (GRIN)
-An option for text messages, missed calls, and emails to be marked as read/reviewed when I slide them off the screen to ignore. (so the reminder doesn't pop up every time I unlock my phone or something. At least clear the notification.)
-Flash... now... please
-MOR FREE APPZ PLEEZ. Where's the free fun stuff? (Without having to load homebrew appz)
-Better prices for some of these other apps. I just paid $5 for a flashcard app.
-Facebook app update: I want to read notes, and toggle the Live Update mode permanently so that I can see status updates on time.
this is a glorious day. I'm super excited, almost as if my phone just became new all over again. It's so cool to see an awesome platform continue to unfold and grow before my very eyes.
downloading now in northern Va
@Cin Thanks guys, I updated it. I guess I will just have to reinstall all the patches again? I thought this update was supposed to give us voice commands? If not, WHY NOT?
downloading in greenville,sc
Warning: This update erases (and doesn't sync) appointments older than 3 months :( - that's what Palm calls to "speed up switching between days in the calendar".
