Well well. Look at this. Taking a page from the CES-challenging Apple / Macworld playbook, Google has announced a press event on January 5th (just like
we told you) in Mountain View, stating:
With the launch of the first Android-powered device just over a year ago, we've seen how a powerful, open platform can spur mobile product innovation. And this is just the beginning of what's possible.
Please join us in Mountain View on January 5, for an Android press gathering.
If this lines up with the news we've seen recently, it's likely a
Nexus One announcement will be the order of the day, and most (if not all) of your nagging questions will get answered. You know we'll be there live... so hang on to your hats, and mark down the date!
Well, whats that blurred out part below the text? Something we should know ;)
@Neutronrocks - good question. I wonder if they will be qnnouncing several products that will actually be available.
I am FREAKING OUT.
@Neutronrocks The concealed area has just the Google address and conference detail.
http://digitaldaily.allthingsd.com/20091229/google-announces-jan-5-android-event/
@kunal Thanks, so they'll present the thing, then answer questions on it, then demonstrate it. But, that must mean it's a device that has a lot of questions to be asked, because normally demonstration and Q and A come at the same time.
GOOGLE TABLET! YESSS!! :)
@Neutronrocks
They will announce that HTC is now their official cellphone manufacturer for Google...
Google will announce that they bought out Comcast and have made the (internet) world a safer place.
@Neutronrocks
It's a picture of Eric Schmidt naked.
@One Love please please please yes.
but of course not
@Po Yeah, gather the presses and serve them lunch, just to announce a little lamo company partnership? They're talking something big! GoogPhone!
i was looking at engadgets twitter feed ( i dont know why i hate twitter) and i saw one of them calling Google arrogant. his name is reckless on twitter and i would like to know his real name. how is this event in any way arrogant? how is announcing a product arrogant?
@0to60
That was Nilay, and mostly it's arrogant because it's a company besides Apple daring to host an event to launch a product.
@Neutronrocks behold BIG G will teach us the beauty behind the android devices that are getting rampant for the next decade. All of our questions will surely be put to rest with this one. More details: http://bit.ly/google-phone-android-conference
And a back to back presentation to teach us the beauty of Android? Not so bad... indeed to start the year
@Neutronrocks
its only the address but u can check it here :
http://androidandme.com/2009/12/news/google-invites-press-to-jan-5-android-event/
@Beroz
NOW THAT WE KNOW THE ADDRESS, LETS GO CRASH A PARTY!!!
@Neutronrocks
fuckin' stalker.
Google tablet?
@LAY That could be a Android Powered Google Phone/Tablet
I say it's something like a free phone with a free plan that's powered by advertisements that run constantly on a second display above your normal display ;).
@LAY Google Table? With Android Surface?
@Neutronrocks
I think that's called a TV?
@Neutronrocks
LOL that's funny but I like googles non-invasive advertising. I'll gladly ignore ads in exchange for free services. God, I'm going to be a google fanboy if they start more directly competing with apple. please kill me.
@(Unverified) I meant non-intrusive, not non-invasive, they're very invasive.
@LAY
define tablet.
just.....WOW!!
@njsrikar That's what she didn't say...
I'm ready. Lets see that thing.
@Ike Turner
I'd change the name from "Nexus One" to "Big Foot" as it appears camera's are mysteriously unable to lock focus on it.
@kpgalligan : That's what she said!
The world will be googleized!
I just peed myself a little over the excitement... time to change... AGAIN
@TikiTeko You should go see a doctor.
This is it! Finally we can get some clarity on this whole thing. I might just hibernate for the next week... :)
i hope they announce more than just the nexus one (officially). new features for all android phones would be nice :)
Just got word from a reliable source. The new Google/Android device will be sold online only and will not be subsidized or supported by Tmobile. It is going to run off of the Tmobile network. Not sure for how long that will be the case or if it will ever be sold at the retail stores.
@nexuswhat The problem I have with this model is that while the phone is technically being sold 'unlocked', if you want anything faster than EDGE, you're effectively locked into T-Mobile. I have AT&T (yes, I know, boo hiss!) but they actually have coverage at my house whereas T-Mobile is absolutely out of the question here.
Also: I haven't quite made sense of T-Mobile's "More Plus" and "Even More Plus" (or whatever they're called) plans. It seems like if you're bringing your own device and going contract-free, you pay a higher monthly service charge.
Any insight?
@JustintheMiracle No. Nobody outside the US is locked to T-Mobile, AT&T or any other US network. There is a world out there!
@JustintheMiracle You should pay less for "even more plus", which has no contract and no phone subsidy. It is basically a recurring pre-pay plan. It's a decent deal if you don't want to buy a carrier phone, which matches the supposed situation of the nexus one.
@JustintheMiracle You got that backwards. The Even More Plus (bring your own phone) are the cheaper plans, which makes sense because you aren't paying the subsidy towards a new device.
Lemme tease you Yanks a bit:
we don't have that forced phone subsidy crap here in Europe, you can buy most phones subsidised if you really, really want to (or are just poor..:D). For example, I have an unlocked HTC HD2 and I use an operator of my choice. I have unlimited 3,6Mbps data access for 10€/month (around $14/month), and I have full 3G virtually everywhere I move. HQ youtube videos and porn streaming, sweet!
@SSteven and bradsh
You are both incorrect. T-mobile's prepaid service is absolutely more expensive than the monthly plans. and you have to buy the phone outright. I think all prepaid plans on all the carriers cost more that monthly bills. they'd rather lock you into a contract then have you getting service from whomever you like.
@Rob Conway
Rob, you're correct that t-mob's pre-paid plans are more expensive.
However, they aren't talking about pre-paid plans. They are talking about t-mob's unsubsidized monthly plan, called Even More Plus. It is cheaper than the two year contract plan, Even More, by between $10 and $20 per month.
Can I come too Engadget?
Puhleeeeeeeeease? :D
@ChazClout
FREE LUNCH !!!!!.... ill be there by 12 :D
Stop copying Apple..Its pathetic!!!
Google - Horrific design, No privacy and some Ads:)
@Look
How about Apple pays Nokia for the tech they stole?
Google aint copying shit.
@Look
oh yeh they are really copying apple by making a smartphone. get a brain dumbass its called competition its what companies do to succeed. Apple did it, and now Google is gonna do it better because thats how economics work. he has a stick, you get a bigger one. case closed. fuck off troll
Its here!! :)
Hmmm, I wonder what they are announcing.. A new phone maybe?
oh snap! shits about to get real!
No one will even remember this event once I release the tablet. Google is trying to copy me by doing a press event in January separate from CES. Please, who is Google going to put on stage that has even 1/10 of my charisma? This event will get press for a few days while Apple's press conference for the tablet will be covered for months. I kicked Eric Schmidt's ass off the board of directors and I will kick Google's ass with my tablet introduction.
