T-Mobile makes internal mention of Nexus One (sort of) for 'early January' release
It manages to never actually call out the device by name, but T-Mobile's thrown up some internal verbiage mentioning that "Google... is scheduled to launch a new Android device in early January." That would line up with information we'd previously received reporting to some sort of January 5 launch, and we can only assume they're talking about the Nexus One here -- though the name could still change by the time this hits retail channels. Interestingly, T-Mobile calls out that Google and HTC will be directly responsible for support on the handset, bypassing T-Mobile for everything other than wireless service -- the great "dumb pipe" dream, realized. Stay tuned, because it looks like this is all about to get real.

I want this now. I've rooted my G1 and I like it. Dumb pipe is great.
You can take my un-crippled phone back when you pry it from my cold, dead, nerdy hands.
@kpgalligan Same here, cm4.2.11 on G1, which is all nice and well and overall fairly zippy, but sometimes so slow that I want to smash it against the nearest (brick) wall. I want that blazing fast N1 with that massive screen NOW!!!
@patsy cm 4.2.9.1
Agree. Seems OK, but occasionally it takes a nap while opening mail or whatever. Seriously can't wait for the new phone. Unless its ridiculously expensive (> $500) I'll pick one up asap.
Well, maybe. We'll see how much it is ;)
@kpgalligan Have you guys tried out dwangs rom? I find it to be a bit snappier.
@gonintendo I haven't tried anything other than getting the cm rom running then tethering the phone. I guess I can play around with it when I get bored. Need to figure out how to back things up, though. Starting from scratch once is cool, but doing that many times will get annoying.
@kpgalligan I've been playing around with SugarSync, which sounds pretty good. You get 2GB of free storage, and you can specify which folders on the SD card to automatically sync. I haven't figured out whether it has a background process taking care of syncing, or whether you have to have the app running for that. Google really needs to add a generic data syncing service to Android, so you can backup anything you deem important in the cloud. I've lost quite a few notes in the Notepad app when updating ROMs.
@kpgalligan
HOLY MACKEREL. I am so excited, I would like to punch myself in the second face I don't have temporarily.
SPLENDID. Get it done T-mo. They are pulling out all the stops to get people on their network. Commendable. FREAK OUT.
@kpgalligan just use nandroid. it should be in the recovery (hold home while booting) and apps2sd will let you keep your apps. I'm pretty sure that cm has it enabled by default.
@gonintendo
Who's ROM? Tell me more. I'm running the latest Cyanogen ROM and it's great but as others have mentioned, from time to time, it will go from blazing fast to .....Zzzzzzzzz slow.
@kpgalligan Ah yes finally, The stike of the Nexus is now so close, so close that we can order it on January 5 with Tmo. However, with the caveat of keeping the price away from the users ...yet. Make it below 300 USD and surely this phone will make a blast. Not an iPhone killer (for now), but definitely worth buying. Details: http://bit.ly/google-phone-made-for-tmobile

@HelghanSuperSniper http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567023 it's actually pretty popular and has been consistently fast for a good 6 or 7 releases.
It's heeeeeeeeeeeeeere!!
As soon as I can scrounge up the monies I will be buying this. Hopefully it isn't too expensive.
I really wish this the Nexus One had been provided to a different company. T-Mobile doesn't work in my area. At all.
Seems odd to me that Google didn't go with a larger company, especially if they want to compete with the iPhone.
I don't know anyone that uses T-Mo. The city I live in is limited to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular for actual retail locations.
Guess I'll be with my Sprint HTC Hero for the time being.
@GeorgeAnthony which city are you in?
@GeorgeAnthony The way the phone is being sold fits perfectly with T-mobile's contractless "even more plus" plans, which have no phone subsidy. It really was an incredibly logical choice to launch there first, especially considering their partnership surrounding the G1.
@wupolo
Eureka, CA. Fairly small city in Northern Cali (the real Northern Cali, despite what Bay Area residents may think).
I had the MyTouch for a 30-day trial. When it did have a signal, calls would drop frequently, was constantly roaming when "searching for service" wasn't on the screen. Loved the build of the phone (with the exception of lack of 3.5mm headphone jack), but it just would not work in my area.
T-Mo also wasn't able to give me a number with a local prefix. The nearest prefix they could give me was located 300 miles south of Eureka, basically the Bay Area. So, if I wanted to call to order a pizza, locally, I had to program the phone to have my area code in any local number I dialed. Not a big problem, but still... If people called me from a land line (yes, I know people that still have land lines, hahaha), my number would come up as long distance and they had to include the area code in order to call me.
@bradsh
Good point. Didn't really think about that aspect. Thanks for the reply.
Good day.
@GeorgeAnthony A lot of the t-mo phones work over UMA/wireless. Especially out in the remote areas. It's a shoddy workaround but will help until they put a tower out there. I used to use UMA in my old office which was basically a concrete bunker. No-one had service but me. Something to consider if you're still on T-mo.
@GeorgeAnthony You may get lucky in the next few months.... not that kind of lucky, but cell service lucky. Looks like T-Mo is trying to build a tower in Eureka

@Jeremy99
Thanks for the reply! I have contacted the city council about this matter, and the city was under the impression that the cell tower was already approved and in place.
When I contacted T-Mo, they weren't aware of the tower existing or not existing and would still have to give me an out-of-area, long distance prefix. Which would mean long-distance charges for my family members that still use land lines. Minor issue, but still...
Either way, I'm hoping it happens soon or the Nexus One branches out to other carriers.
For now, I'm content with my Sprint HTC Hero.
@GeorgeAnthony Couldn't agree more. I'm also in an area that is not served by T-Mobile (or Sprint or AT&T). I do get very good coverage with Verizon however.
@GeorgeAnthony
If some reports are correct, all you need with the Nexus One is just a data plan. The voice calls are VoIP. Depending on where you live in Eureka, CA there may or may not be data service.
@diverbelow wrong.
What if this is the HTC HD2.....with Android!
Jizz in my pants....
Now… what about us in the UK? Any hope, perhaps?
I'll be so pissed if we get shafted like with the droid here in the UK. I was hoping for it to come to orange initially but their contracts seem quite expensive.
Anything but o2 will make me happy I guess.
My iPhone is spazzing out as I write this, it's as if it knows it's going to be replaced...
@lookseehear
Whats wrong with Tmobile?
So... Would I need to buy this unlocked to use on ATT? and would it work?
@audi2009 3G wouldnt work
@audi2009
Yes on EDGE/GSM only
If it's under $300 unlocked/unbranded, I am going to buy one.
@bachviet it will be unbranded if tmo is going to give the tech work to HTC and Google i would think ...
@audi2009 If you don't have a preference between T-mo and AT&T you should just pay the etf and switch to T-mo, With the even more plus plans you'll save $40 ish a month compared to a comparable AT&T plan. You'll maket your etf back in 4 months and it's all savings from there.
@Pulldovr
It wont be branded, thats the point..
@Edobe
Im kinda stuck, 3 phones in a family plan, mine is the only one with 2 years up so I can leave ATT, but then I still have 2 more on the family plan contract. So I think it would come out to more money having ATT and Tmo at the same time
Just a few days away from all the internet madness. I cant wait to have that phone waiting for some official news, price doesn't matter when the phone looks that great.
"Keep all informmation regarding this launch confidential until a formal announcement by Google is released"
Somewhere at Google, reading this article: "FUCK. Really? REALLY?"
"The Google Android phone will be sold solely by Google via the Web"
Since T-Mobile is taking themselves out of the hardware sales side of it, in addition to the hardware service side, I'm taking that to mean that there would only be an unsubsidized option...which would be in line with T-Mobile's newer BYOP pricing structure.
It's already been established this will be $100.
@Showbiz
$100 for an unlocked phone at this level? No way. Established where?
@Showbiz
Wheres that been stated? It would be truly great if that were the case, somehow i don't see it coming... i think the best we might get would be 200???
@kpgalligan plenty of places, do a search. Pricing to be $199 with a $100 rebate.
google is wanting to get this in hands at slightly above cost in order to get eyeballs looking at their ads.
Everyone needs to take a breath and consider that the actual cost of a cell phone is typically $200 or less. The additional cost is profit and our a way to make back the cost for development.
In the Google phone case, the specs are largely the same as other HTC android phones. I would be surprised if the actual cost of the parts and labor to put the thing together are much more then $100 to $150.
Any leaks on a Euro release? :(
@ChazClout
na na na nana
I'm assuming this is T-mobile USA. Correct? Wrong? If it doesn't come to the US, I'm going to drive to T-mobile and club them like baby seals.
@thintheherd you assumed right...it is tmob US
@njsrikar Thank god. I can put the club away.
@thintheherd Knock a few baby seals anyway, then we will get more naked chicks doing PETA adds.
This is off topic, downranking is understandable:
Why do I keep hearing people on here saying stuff like "I'm on Verizon with a Droid but I'm going to drop my contract and not use a good phone anymore so that I can switch to another network for yet another new phone"? (Paraphrased) It's not like you guys have THAT much money.
@Lucas I know right?
