Nexus One trounces 3D benchmark, gets caught in high-res photoshoot

Update: Also on hand after the break is a high-quality video of the UI -- ten minutes of it, to be exact. Just a warning, there's a brief NSFW clip from Californication at around the two minute mark. With that said, grab some popcorn and enjoy!
Update 2: The original YouTube video was pulled. We've uploaded a new copy and embedded below.

@ALL, the second video was removed by Youtube because of two seconds on the Californication clip where you can see a naked woman... I edited this and I'm curently re-uploading the high quality video.
Sorry for that.
this phone is great and all but what the real question is will the rest of us on android get 2.1? I can understand if you are running 1.5 but for those of us running 2.0 on droids, will verizon hook a brother up?
@raaaaaa I am under the impression that we Droid user will get Android 2.1. The Droid is a "Google Experience" phone, thus meaning that all incremental updates will be available to us. At least that's what I understand.
Madeleine Zima. Anyway, the phone's nice too.
wow what can i say now we got 3 phones(nexus,n900,hd2) that are better then the iphone
Did anybody compare these results to the iphone?
I hope some clever 3rd-party individual works out how to get a vanilla Android 2.1 onto the Hero, I'd love this over all the Sense UI bloat at the moment
Engadget App - i'm sad your app can't read some of the video's you guys link to....
Great an all, but when is a keyboard version coming out?
Oh and the Droid doesn't count, kboard is next to useless.
If that will be the default UI for Android 2.1 I think the other manufacturers will have a hard time competing. Ofcourse it's still a little rough around the edges but by the time Android 2.5 comes out (shouldn't be long with Google's pace ;)) there will be no need for UIs like Sense or BLUR, which promises good things for the future :)
Not so impressed by the 26.7 fps in neocore though, just ran it on my GSM Hero and got 27.8, is that Snapdragon lazy or what?
@rocketman lalala
Just realized the Nexus is running it at 800x480 while my Hero is running the comparatively puny 480x320, that might be the explanation :P
But I'd still expect a little higher than 26.7 though
Video updated : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNOo13Zx42w
I never saw him use the trackball. Or did I miss it?
ok, im as amazed as the rest of you... but that "3D animation" video has been around since i first got my G1, and did the exact same thing as it did there... its nothing special. its only a video. just saying, im not saying this thing can't run something like that... just that that video isn't any proof.
that is a really quick phone. it doesnt look like he once had any slowdown problems with the interface. im not the biggest fan of the android look but this phone is making it hard to resist.
Uhm...am I the only one here who is going "27 fps...WTF?"
The Omap3 can do 60 FPS with full OpenGL ES 2.0 support.
The OMAP4 will be even better than that...snapdragon fails at graphics and HD video, I'm sorry.
@(Unverified) do you buy CELLPHONES for videogaming? go buy a GAMING handheld, psp,ds... if you want gaming
@audi2009
You're missing the point here...On the HTC HD2 with DirectX this SAME EXACT processor can do 60+ FPS.
OpenGL ES 2.0 is nice but DirectX is far superior.
@(Unverified) Wasn't this beenchmark for open gl models? i mean, the nexus has a 2.0. I'm just asking not affirming nothing.
January 5th, Mountain View, Google Headquarters:
"Hello there, thanks for coming.
There is not much left to announce about nexus one, all rumors were true, you got specs, terms of sale, price, photos, videos, everyhting.
Just buy the phone, sales start as of this moment, thanks again, bye"
Has anyone else tried this on there current Android devise? You can download NEO CORE from market! I got a 27.2 on my MyTouch 3G WTF????????????
@xr3al
Blame the old crappy Qualcomm MSM7200 in it. The same processor used by the G1 and the HTC Tilt 1.
@ayle I'm confused at how my mytouch 3g can get more FPS then this beast? pfft
This may be my "world phone". As much as my iPhone/ATT voice service sucks here, T-Mobile is even worse. BUT, T-Mobile and the wireless spectrum they use have more of an international presence, so maybe the $550 unlocked version would be a viable purchase for international-type people.
Or I could save some $$ and unlock the iPhone...
Best part about the Nexus... There is finally a device that will wake Apple up and innovate a little more in the mobile space. The iPhone was a game changer, but there have been only incremental updates in the last 3 generations. This Nexus One seems fast, intuitive, and customizable, and there are 10,000 apps available, with more every day. The iPhone App store still trounces it, but that's just a chronological head-start. Android will catch up in both "useful apps" and "crApps".
But for the love of all, get rid of the distracting animated backgrounds. It's like watching a video made by someone who just figured out how to green screen in iMovie...
@jimmylittle
There are actually 20,000 apps in the Android Marketplace.
@jimmylittle actually, in terms of actual mobile operating system technology, Android is still behind iPhone OS. I'm not saying Android is bad, which is not. It's actually formidable, that's why it is destroying WinMo as the choice for 3rd party handset makers (WinMo never had a chance to begin with). But iPhone OS at this point has its OS tech at a more developed stage.
I LOVE THIS PHONE, the only down side is that there is no physical keyboard!
It looks polished, speedy, intuitive but the only thing that annoys me is the lack of multitouch. Why the fuck they don't do fucking multitouch????
Looks cool sounds like people are tired of the iphone now...... Fresh Meat
lol!
If you told me, on Day 1 of this fine decade, that on its final day I would be watching a 10 min. computer video of someone using a cell phone -- I would have said, Come on!! But there you have it.
Best part is the finale, where he loads up a video of someone else using the phone, ON the phone... I had to laugh (at myself)!
The UI looks super snappy.
@iDavey
lol Exactly!
This phone looks to be beyond awesome. Still holding out for the HTC Bravo.
Wishes there were more leaks on the HTC Bravo and what carrier will be providing it in the U.S..
I know that state T-Moblie for over in Europe for the Bravo, just desperate to find out what carrier in the U.S. will be getting the Bravo..
Any one got any leads and or links to leads?
i dont get the hype over this phone. it sure is a lot more powerful than the predecessors, but all android phones just look the same to me =/
This phone is all but useless.... unless you happen to be on America's SMALLEST 3G network. I'm getting tired of seeing posts about a phone that I can't even attempt to use. Why the hell would Google design a phone that can't be used on AT&T 3G? So dumb!
@pcmike
the phone is GSM, which is what every other country in the world is on. since their an international company, it only makes sense that they would do this. but the part with only 3g on tmobile is more than likely becuz tmobile were the first ones to take a chance on andriod.
@pcmike ATT's 3G is HORRIBLE, I'm Happy its on T-Mobile, America's FASTEST 3G Network. I welcome the Nexus One with Open Arms.
Now you can go cry over your Sparsely blue covered map.
Each one of these new Android phones is a nail on WinMo's coffin. Good riddance.
So how is that Engadget android app coming along?
it seems like a rather large phone, one reason why i didn't enjoy the iphone.
I think android 2.1 looks awesome, i had a g1 and i really liked the android os, this is all android needs, a good phone with good CPU speed and specs. 512MB RAM and ROM and 1Ghz CPU. i have an iphone now and i cant wait to test this phone, i hate using itunes to transfer songs all the time.
WinMobile is done, finish, muerto (dead). The major mobile os right now are Android OS, iPhone OS and WebOS. I had a WinMobile phone so am not hating or anything.
Not sure what's the big fanboy explosion over this phone is. I don't think its that good. I just like the android update.
So I'm good with my Pre and won't be jumping for this phone anytime soon.
The Announcement is only a couple days away, cannot WAIT!
i have a year left on my iPhone contract. I've really come to hate 2-year contracts. I really do. I think I might have to finally go with an unlocked version. I mean, even if you spend $500 on a phone and decide to get a new one, you can still have the option of selling it for a good solid price of $400 a year later, no?
