I tried Fring for iPhone before the official Skype app was launched. It worked fine for me on wifi. The official Skype app had a few problems after it was first launched but with the subsequent updates the stability improved a lot. I use the Skype app on my iPhone as a replacement for a land line and so far I am really happy. Sometimes call are dropped, but I have the same experience with Skype on my MacBook or laptop for that matter.
