Samsung hops on Atom N450 bandwagon with N210, N220, N150 and NB30 netbooks
Keeping the news flowing fast and furious, Samsung has come out with a quartet of new netbooks, distinguishable primarily by their battery life. The N210 and 220 take the lead with a purported 12 hours of "connected mobility," while the NB30 (11 hours) and N150 (8.5 hours) are none too shabby either. The N150 differentiates itself with an "integrated hinge," while the NB30 focuses on durability with a HDD protection sensor and a water-tight seal that protects the netbook from up to 50cc of water. Still, the machines do share a lot, including an Atom N450 at their heart, and a 10.1-inch anti-reflective screen, plus -- you'd be better sit down for this -- mark- and scratch-resistant casing. Does this mean the end of the fingerprint-loving netbook? We can only hope so. Full PR blurb after the break.
Samsung's New Netbooks Extend The Limits of Style, Mobility and Durability
Seoul (Korea Newswire) January 4, 2010 -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a market leader in consumer electronics and world leader in IT technology, today launched the latest additions to its award-winning range of netbooks, the Samsung N210, N220, N150 and NB30. Designed to provide maximum personal freedom, the N210 and N220 deliver up to 12 hours* of secure connected mobility, while the N150 and NB30 keep on going for up to 8.5 hours* and 11 hours* respectively. This impressive battery-powered performance is possible because overall power consumption is reduced by their energy efficient LED display, optimized processing performance and Samsung's proprietary Enhanced Battery Life solution.
The N210, N220, N150 and NB30 also have several display features that enhance the visual experience. The new netbooks' 10.1" LED anti-reflective display fine-tunes movies and images with the sharpest details and boldest colors, with no mirror effect under bright lights or in sunny weather. Using the integrated Easy Resolution Manager tool, screen resolution can easily be changed if a program or game needs to be viewed in 1024x768. For added visual enhancements, the N210, N220, N150 and NB30 offer an integrated Digital LiveCam for video-conferencing or live messaging.
With a slim and elegant design and extensive quality assurance testing the N210, N220, N150 and NB30 are stylish and reliable. The N210 and N220 feature Samsung's new crystal pattern design, while the N150 sports an integrated hinge with smooth movement and high quality connection, so everything blends effortlessly together even when the netbook is open.
Add in a mark and scratch-resistant Samsung durable casing to reduce the risk of damage, and it all adds up to a great long-term value. Especially as the ultra-durable NB30 features an innovative hard disk drive (HDD) freefall sensor, which protects data by automatically parking the HDD if it senses the netbook dropping. The NB30 also incorporates a water-tight seal around the system to prevent potential damage from contact with up to 50 cc of spilled water if removed within 10 seconds, based on testing by Samsung.
The new netbooks come with a range of tools for greater ease of use and safety. Firstly, the "Instant On" capability of the Phoenix HyperSpace™ tool, featured on the N210 and N220, allows the devices to turn on and immediately go online without waiting for Windows to boot, while their "Smart Power Management" conserves more battery power without user intervention. The AnyPC** remote PC access application enables a secure One-Click connection to a home or office PC, making it safe and easy to transfer and view files while on the go. Phoenix FailSafe®*** software provides a useful tool for tracking your PC when it's stolen.This powerful theft deterrence service lets you track the location of a lost or stolen netbook and encrypt, manage, retrieve or erase your vital data.
The Samsung N210, N220, N150 and NB30 incorporate Intel's latest processor, the Intel® Atom™ N450, which is specifically designed to deliver an amazing Internet experience using netbooks. Based on an entirely new micro-architecture, the Intel® Atom™ processor increases energy efficiency to extend battery life, while delivering enhanced mobile performance and increased system responsiveness.
"Featuring an elegant choice of designs, the Samsung N210, N220, N150 and NB30 lead the range with a pragmatic approach that takes ultra mobile computing into a whole new dimension. Longer battery life is an important issue for customers, and we are proud to deliver feature-rich netbooks that allow you to get wirelessly connected so easily and for such a long time," said Seongwoo Nam, Executive Vice President, head of Samsung IT Solutions Business.
Like other Samsung netbooks, the N210, N220, N150 and NB30 have been awarded the leading environmental and usability standard, TCO Certified, and are ECO RoHS compliant. As well as being ergonomically designed for optimum ease of use and performance, Samsung netbooks are also completely mercury free and consume significantly less power thanks to their LED backlit displays. Their ultra-lightweight, robust and compact design also offers other 'green' advantages, as less power is used in the manufacture and usage phases of their product life.
The Samsung N210, N220, N150 and NB30 will be available early in January in most of EMEA, the Americas and Asian countries.

interesting. mark and fingerprint friendly :)
@oringal Well, mark and fingerprint UNfriendly
@Oli D Samsung’s new Atom N450-based netbooks include the N150, N210, N220 and NB30. Each sport a 10.1-inch TFT LCD with a 1024 x 768 pixel format. If this is real, and it does seem that way based on the press release, the 10.1-inch LCD sports a 4:3 aspect ratio instead of the wide formats that we have been seeing on almost all new netbooks and notebooks. Wow they didn't even forgot that it should be all scratch resistant free: Quadro details: http://bit.ly/samsung-pine-trail-notebook-quadro-details
Oh Samsung ;) Your getting me all hot n bothered
Can't wait to see more photos of what they look like.
So many Netbook and Notebook leaks.
@grydlok
It's gonna be the year of the netbook... again...
Sweet!
I have to say, I sort of wonder why Engadget is putting all these releases of notebooks in the top stories section... I don't think they've put past releases up there.... Besides what's the point of having a top stories section if all of the last 6 stories have all been top stories?
@apairofdocs Welcome to the beast that is CES.
@apairofdocs Welcome to a weekend at Engadget, usually a bit slow so everything is a top story.
Anyways, really excited about all these Netbooks, got cash for Christmas to buy one. I'm really hoping for a big release from Lenovo. The rumors about their S10-3t are giving me goosebumps.
@Rebel6381
Im liking that S10-3t as well, but I have my fingers crossed that something at CES will show up with better graphics then the useless GMA 3150 inside.
Ugh all these "N___" names are confusing me, especially with the Atoms in there too.
Nice!!!! I can't wait until some reviews come out.
"...HDD protection sensor ..." Samsung is also the maker of SSD's so why not put one of these instead. I know, the reason would now be jacked up prices. C'mon this is 2010, when will we see the prices of SSD's plummet down.
Man, I wish that my X170 (X120 in the western world) had the matte finish, water resistance, and offset logo--although I can't really complain about a laptop I got for free. It's a smart move though, Samsung differentiating itself from the rest of the saturated netbook market. The only non-shiny/garishly colored consumer alternatives I can really think of are the Toshiba netbooks, and even those aren't truly matte, but instead 'textured shiny'.
The CULV market is pretty niche in comparison, and the X170 is geared towards the female professional--the Jaguar X-Type crowd. The shiny finish and chrome trim speak to that. It's seen here in Korea as a true thin-and-light notebook that can be slipped into a bag, not as a powerful netbook alternative (I do respect the fact that products marketed to women here mean more than 'it comes in pink'). The battery life and the trackpad are killing me though...
@Matthew
Excitement fail--formatting had my eyes combining the lines 'anti-reflective screen' with 'scratch resistant casing' to read 'anti-reflective casing'. Yeah, the X170 is THAT shiny-even with fingerprints and low lighting, I can clearly see my own reflection in the lid.
So they aren't refreshing the N310 with the new Atom chips? That would be unfortunate, I liked that model with the soapbar design.
HDMI anywhere? If not, I'm back to wiping smudges off a Eee 1201n.
