CinemaNow 2.0: 3D, 1080p, Android & WinMo get a taste of online movie distribution
Thought digital delivery would get left behind in the jump to 3D? Roxio's CinemaNow 2.0 platform is ready to build on the success of its predecessor -- already embedded in many devices and powering the online stores for Blockbuster, Best Buy and Zip.ca -- and flip the switch bringing streamed or downloaded 1080p or 3D, plus the ability to add additional background info on each movie or previously disc-exclusive extras like multiple audio tracks, subtitles and more. Also new for 2.0 are plans for access on Android and Windows Mobile devices. We're still thinking a combo of lower prices, all you can eat subscriptions or a disc tie-in is the logical next step, but we'll wait for a CES demo to ask about that, and whether the new features will be backwards compatible on old hardware.

Looks like an AT&T ad to me.
@Ryan Deen
Looks like one of VIZIO's Internet App TV's, to me.
Giraffes. Who couldn't appreciate those long, slender necks?
@Nienhan
I wonder what ET would think if he saw a giraffe... he'd probably make out with it
ET is on hold with AT&T customer service.
Weak still inferior to a bluray player via hdmi on a 52" Sony 1080p LCD 120hz. Nobthanx. It would be like a step bak in technology.
@logic thinker how is this inferior to a bluray player - also 1080p?
@ncalsurfer - While both are 1080P, assumedly digital distribution will employ higher levels of compression to minimize bandwith consumption.
Many have commented that digital distribution, rather than Blu-Ray is the way of the future... How will this be possible however, when increasingly ISPs are imposing throttling and download caps to limit traffic. Will the content providers align themselves with ISPs so that this type of distribution doesn't count toward download caps?
CinemaNow was available as a Vista Media Center plugin but I do not see it available in Win7 Media Center. I currently use VUDU which has exceptional quality but it would be great to have CinemaNow available as a Win7 Media Center plugin, I know our dealers would appreciate it.
Torrents are also 3D compatible already you know.
