webOS paid apps coming to Europe in March 2010
Okay, so this is quite the lag from October's North American availability, but at least when the paid portion of Palm's App Catalog rolls out across Europe it shouldn't experience the stuttering start it suffered back in the US of A. Palm has excitedly blurted out the news on its developer network blog, but not without the requisite garnishings of buzzwords like "leverage," "freedom," "choice," "control," and "speed," as well as something about "faster cycle times" -- all of it designed to get more developers onboard. Kinda ironic the company is boasting about fast cycle times when it can't transition its paid Catalog to Europe in less than six months, but hey -- the Pre already has that one killer app, and it's free, so what do you care? [Thanks, Ben]

finally, didn't understand where those 1000 were when you announced it!

I didn't know there weren't any paid apps. I read thinking that palm have had some catastrophic app catalog failure.
That said why is catalog spelt wrong.
@kris120890 Spelt is spelled, Spelled ;) see, we all make mistakes
@mahootzki
Also spelt, spelt you idiot.
@mahootzki Spelt is also correct. Both Spelled and Spelt are correct.
Wow...for a company under the gun right now this seems a little off. With all the scrutiny of there app market you think they would be on this double time. They need to get this crap done and allow developers more room to play and create. Palm needs to wake up and smell the iPhone/Android flavored coffee.
@fatjoe The Pre is certainly available in the UK on O2.
@fatjoe neither is available in Portugal.
@doutorpiranha
No one said anything about Mexico.
@fatjoe I don't think your question is stupid (none are in my opinion). Truth be told, I have no idea as I am in USA, but I would think in most parts of EU it should be available. Obviously there will be some random carriers in EU that won't have it, but I would assume most of the big carriers have it.
catalogue.
the best apps in the catalog are free anyway.. Engadget app pandora and radiotime
palm I holding back alot apps until after thursday just watch..
Well one more thing to check off the list... Keep it's up Palm...
I'm just going to quote Jon Rubinstein, Palm CEO
"Is there a toaster that also knows how to brew coffee? There is no such combined device, because it would not make anything better than an individual toaster or coffee machine. It works the same way with the iPod, the digital camera or mobile phone: it is important to have specialized devices."
Sorry, I take that back, the Pre+ will be the best at everything
@MoonWalkerCTE And when was that quote from?
I think it's obvious that his mentality has changed (evidence? webOS is all about multitasking).
@MoonWalkerCTE Totally agree with his statement to a degree. IMO the mp3/video player, phone, and quick camera make a good combo. The important thing to remember is there are specialized devices out there that do those jobs BETTER. The truth is if someone needs to watch videos on the go in HD format they will probably get a nicer PMP for that (or use there laptop). If you want to watch a video in semi-decent playback on your phone you can but it won't be as nice.
It comes down to what people want or need and how much they are willing to spend on the device.
"one killer app"....
good one there!
Woah now, careful with that "North American" thing - paid apps are still only in the US. Canada's still waiting....
@sentinel We don't even have paid Android apps in Canada! It's pathetic. Oh well, that's what app packs from the pirate bay are for...
Just because there are things to buy doesn't mean there is anything worth paying for. All the best stuff is free and the only thing I've considered purchasing was the pay for version of a Twitter client.
Luckily Palm looks like they are gonna hook up devs with a decent SDK so I'd actually get something worth spending money on.
North American? You mean Canada no longer exists as part of North America?
You must because I have a Pre in Canada from Bell and I don't have paid apps access...
@Loftwyr That really is horse shit. Palm is one of my favorite older companies (I've owned a few Palm products in my day fav being Zire 72 for its time). It kind of ticks me off even though I own a Droid. I just want Palm to be a serious competitor and possibly make a device I like in the future. Buck up PALM! Get on the gotdamned ball!
Speaking of that free app (Engadget), is anyone else having issues with comments page not forwarding to next page?
@miles4000
Yes, I was going to mention that but didn't know where.
Bit disappointed that it's gonna take another 3 months to get the paid apps over here- short of adding a reliable payment system, what else is there to do?
@miles4000 yeah me too, and I wish it would let you know which comments are highly rated
