You knew it wouldn't be long before
Seagate hopped on the
USB 3.0 bandwagon, right? Right. Here in Vegas, the company just announced its BlackArmor PS110, which is its first USB 3.0 portable HDD. What makes this one a touch different than the rest is the "performance kit" that it ships in, which is comprised of a 500GB USB 3.0 HDD (a 2.5-incher with a 7200RPM spindle speed), a power cable and an ExpressCard USB 3.0 adapter. 'Course, your shiny new MacBook
won't take too kindly to this type of gesture -- but hey, at least you can read SD cards without breaking a sweat! The kit is up for purchase right now for $179.99, and if you're looking to take a closer look before pulling the trigger, you'll find our hands-on below along with a glance at a for-demonstration-only
7mm 2.5-inch drive that was first announced last month.
Wow...... usb 3.0 FTW
@unknown714
In pretty much all laptops thanks to the included Express Card UB3 :)
awsome ! data transfer will now be superfast i suppose
Hmm, I need this along with an ExpressCard USB 3.0 covnverter, and I am set.
"Seagate..."
Stopped reading right there. CLICK CLICK CLICK.
The source article and Seagate site state that testing confirms 100 MB/sec speeds, which is about 3 times as fast as USB 2.0. This obviously means that it uses ExpressCard 1.0, which limits the bandwidth to 2 Gbps.
Don't even bother wasting our time with these god-awful ExpressCards. Get us 2.0!
@Dante of the Inferno
100MB/S is the limit of the harddrive not the express card
and it's more like 5 times faster than USB2 not 3
Most of the time your read speed is 18-22MB via USB2
@GoogleCEO well actually my external HD read speed is about 30MB/s
Seagate? damn!
I'll never buy Seagate again after they fucked me with the Barracuda series.
That extra power cable seems unwieldy. The expresscard port can't supply enough power for an external HDD?
this is a 2.5", i have one that i use with my mac (usb 2.0 version) and its speed is awful, is there a laptop/desktop performance difference? because i plugged it into my friend's desktop and it as as quick as a powered external hdd (30MBps)
Will a similar problem arise with these drives? I want to know before i buy.
Awesome!
Does this have hardware encryption or have I missed the point of the BlackArmour range?
What? a jab at Apple and PC fanboys aren't taking advantage of it? Are we finally at peace?
wait... ... ...
nope, continue as usual.
