T-Mobile takes entire 3G network to 7.2Mbps
It's really that upcoming 21Mbps HSPA+ action that has us all hot and bothered, but T-Mobile USA took a nice little interim step today in announcing that its entire 3G footprint has now been upgraded from 3.6 to 7.2Mbps. Considering that AT&T won't be at 100 percent 7.2Mbps coverage for some time to come, this is a nice little boost -- of course, T-Mob's got a smaller network to contend with, so it's a trade-off for customers. Can someone do us a favor and drop us a line when we can finally have both a blazing network and coverage everywhere? At the same time?[Thanks, Patrick]

@uansari1
mobilespeedtest is BAD. BAD BAD BAD BAD.
They're using a repetitive text string as their method of "testing" which means it's got HUGE compression behind it.
I just ran mine with the 5MB test and got 7092Kbps
@The Doctor What site?
@Jouva
Mobilespeedtest.com I used a WinMo phone, but used Opera instead of IE to test.
I see most people on this board are SO LOST.... T-Mobile had years to plan their 3G network and they said they would build out directly to 7.2mbps. So, essentially all they had to do was flip the switch. The infrastructure was already in place. Do you people think they went from just the Philadelphia market to their entire 3G map in just a few months? Granted their 3G footprint is small. But testing was the only thing they were waiting on.
@xman95
So you are trying to knock them for PLANNING AHEAD?!?
The horror! How dare they realize that 7.2 would be the future and set up their network accordingly!
:rolleyes:
@Hazdaz
Guess you are not very good at reading??
I did not criticize T-mobile, but rather the users on the board for thinking the roll out happened so quickly, when it was already there.
I've never used T-mobile, but it seems that they have been on the right road for quite some time now - better and better phones, decent prices and now 7.2Mbps 3G.
Being an outsider to their service, realistically, what is BAD about them?? Is their coverage horrible? Do they have bad customer service?
@Hazdaz
I am in Phoenix and about 8 months ago I nearly dropped Tmobile since it was nearly impossible to get a 3G signal at school, work, home, family member's homes...but I could briefly when driving on the highway by the "ghetto" areas. Then almost over night they seemingly flipped a switch and now the only time my phone drops to 2.5G is in a sublevel of my bank downtown. Tmobile is pretty good. You can use unlocked phones on their network and their prices are good.
@Hazdaz
It's the coverage. It works fine in major metropolitan areas, but once you leave the city and drive out into the suburbs though, coverage is spotty, and that's being nice.
My results with T-Mobile on my Nokia N900 in Phoenix:
Speedtest.net using local server (average out of 3 tests)..
Both 3G and 3.5G: latency - 389ms
download speed - 0.97 Mbps
upload speed - 0.22 Mbps
Personal Wi-Fi on a 12 Mbps connection from Qwest transmitted on a "N" router. Phone 12 inches away from router:
latency - 67ms
download speed - 5.8 Mbps
upload speed - 0.8 Mbps
pulled down 1890kbps recently in greater Cleveland, OH
@Anderfrank on AT&T that is
I wanna know how much Google money T-Mobile is getting. Beyond that how many shares of stock in each other do they own.
I pay half of what others pay on AT&T and Verizon and get faster service!
I can't complain can I ?!
fastest network and coolest smartphones, now both verizon and att should come up with new commercials
I'm on a Bold 9700 near Salt Lake City, and can only get 0.5 Kbps. I wonder if they really meant "the ENTIRE network"?
BTW, using Speedtest app on the Blackberry gets me only 0.25 Kbps, but tethering it to a computer and using various test sites gets me 0.5. I wonder why the difference.
@(Unverified)
You wont ever hit 7.2 on the 9700 its only built for 3.5mpbs
Way to go, T-Mob!
