Verizon getting Google's Nexus One in Spring 2010
Oh boy, you heard that right. Google's slinging its Nexus One to Verizon in the Spring for an undisclosed amount. At a purchase page that went live during the company's product launch event in Mountain View, users are notified that the phone will soon be available on America's largest carrier. Two things are immediately interesting here -- for starters, it's not coming (right away, at least) to bump heads with the iPhone on AT&T, and secondly, Google is openly suggesting that you buy Motorola's (as in, not HTC's) Droid now if you just can't wait a day longer for some of that Android goodness. If AT&T wasn't scared, it should be now.

interesting development!
personally, ill stick with the droid with that real keyboard and all, but im sure a lot of people would love the chance to get their hands on the 'google phone' on verizon.
@spasewalkr
... and FINALLY the Passion arrives ...
Oh but wait, something better on the horizon?
http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/31/picture-of-motorola-shadow-leaked-inverted-on-taiwanese-forum/
... and the wheel turns and turns and turns ...
@spasewalkr Ya, I would have really rather had this phone just for size alone. I personally hate the Droid 'physical' keyboard, I never use the thing beyond playing my NES games. O well.
@spasewalkr So what radios are going into this thing? Will it have the GSM ones and CDMA? Same as the Tour, for example?
Awesome! great to see these good phones coming to Verizon. This will be my next phone.
@(Unverified)
Since it's already confirmed for T-Mobile and Verizon my guess is on both GSM and CDMA. The order page sells an unlocked for GSM (SIM cards only), has T-Mobile listed as a carrier and Verizon grayed out with a note about the phone being available their in spring.
@(Unverified) Yes it will be open definitely for CDMA but if you can have a combo? It's not yet mentioned as for this moment. This is one of the news that makes you want to clap your hands, Google is really living up to its promise that it will release a phone that will be for the
whole world, and you bet they are correct now 'it' being release on multiple carriers. All questions about nexus One, answered: http://bit.ly/nexus-one-on-multiple-carriers-details
Although the rumor of Nexus One being released to AT&T as well, remains as a rumor.
@spasewalkr
damn you 2 year contract and ridiculous early termination fees!!!! I want this phone!
@wack
Google sells it unlocked. Look on the site... cheaper in the long run.
@dcaudillo A complete Motorola FAIL, that keyboard. All that needs doing for a decent keyboard is to design something similar to the LG Voyager keyboard - that is actually a VERY sturdy keyboard - and IF Google wanted Moto to keep the slider, they would only have to extend the width. Why not, they've already extended the length (microphone hole/logo). Of course , in order to fit a keyboard that good, they would have to add depth, but they would need to do that second time a round in order to accommodate second battery OR extended battery- as is, the Droid is never going to get an extended battery, unless Moto wants to contract a different battery companies formula (Recall the Nexus One ability to hold a second battery is due the room left over from keyboard removal - in a sense.). The only two real advantages over the Droid/Eris now are 2nd battery ability, SD Card AND GSM card slots, scroll button (although it is only there to replace the missing D-Key), with a slight and barely noticeable 400MHz gain in CPU power over the Droid (Remember, the only reason the Nexus One out of box is so much faster than the Droid, is mainly due OS.21 RC2 and no extra apps installed - check the speed of boot-up after you have all of your previous Droid/Eris apps copied in; not so 'fast' now., is it.)
Well looks like my wife is getting my Droid.....
@JackieTreehorn Looks like my mom is getting mine...
@bkprince23
That's disgusting
@Why should I have all the fun
i see what you did there LMAO!!!
@JackieTreehorn Same here. Or someone on eBay.
AT&T is boned.
@TSIG Yeah, the age of the iPhone is no more!
@TSIG
iBoned
Fixed
@TSIG seriously! verizon has gone from zero to hero in a few short months. at&t better have something big coming soon. i hope they aren't hedging their bets only on a new iphone.
@TSIG
How exactly is AT&T boned?
Because now Verizon has more Droid devices on the way? Umm the Droid hasn't sold that well. Nor will the Nexus One even approach the level of popularity that the iPhone has.
SO what exactly are you guys blathering on about?
Do u honestly think regular everyday people give a fuck about this Android nonsense you guys keep wanking off to? Like any normal person is just going to up and cancel their contract with AT&T just to go over to Verizon or T-Mobile for the Nexus One?
YEAH...umm SURE. And I'm fucking Gisele Bundchen....LMAO
The delusions of you anti apple losers are quite hysterical.
Lets go over how many iPhone "killer" there have been.
Instinct
Instinct HD
Palm Pre
Droid
Droid Eris
And now the Nexus One
How many of them have succeeded? NONE....
@ME2Adept I dunno, the Nexus one, and both Droids are still pretty new to judge, unless someone wants to disagree with factual data.
@ME2Adept
Wow denial and anger in the same post lolz. Must suck to be an IPhone fanboy right now.
@ME2Adept
Bye Bye
@TSIG
Denial of what?
Spec wise the Droid and the Nexus one are both impressive devices. On paper it seems to appear that they should deliver an experience that is on par if not better than the iPhone.
Yet that isn't the case (if you don't believe me read the reviews).
Furthermore based on my own personal experiences with the Droid at the Best Buy I work at it's just clunkly, slow, and fugly piece of electronics.
Again why is AT&T boned? They would only be "boned" if Verizon had a true iPhone on their network.
They don't and with this news I find it highly doubtful that they will EVER see the iPhone.
So u can puff and huff all u want about open source this and android that but AT&T and Apple are laughing all the way to the bank. AT&T has the one phone no other company/network has and it's going to be #1 because of that.
Now to be FAIR IF the Google Phone/Nexus One does sell more than the iPhone I will apologize and admit that I'm wrong.
But the chances of that happen are slim to none.
So lets wait and see.
@ME2Adept
The Motorola Droid sold over a million units in just a few short months. Couple that with the superior hardware in the Nexus One, and the fact that Android is much, much more open than Apple's close operating system (giving you the ability to make whatever apps you want, and load whatever you want onto it without having to jailbreak it) gives you a superior phone. But wait, there's more! Verizon's network is 10 times better than AT&T's shithole of a network where you're just as likely to get 3G service, as you are to get a dropped call.
@Solidstate89
Where is your source for this 1 million number, I've never seen any number released by either Motorola, Verizon, or even Google confirming this number.
@Solidstate89
LMAO talk about pulling numbers out of your ass...
Source for that 1 million?
And really 1 million in a few months...I'm pretty sure that Apple/AT&T sold that in weeks....
As for the network where I am it's not perfect but it's okay. And frankly the iPhone is the best phone I've ever had so I'm willing to deal with AT&T.
@ME2Adept
Of course they are pulling the number out of their ass. They have no official source.
@Solidstate89
So your saying that a phone (Nexus) that is similar in speed to the iphone but sucks at Music/Movies and Apps is going to take down the iphone? The Nexus is like a beefed up Hero and that's about it. Everything else is the same including the 20K crap Apps that it runs.
Until Android comes out with a better selection in the app catalog, nobody is going to give it the time of day.
@TSIG
Exactly my point.
The browser on that thing couldn't even beat the iPhone!
Really android fanboys...THIS is the much awaited google phone? The so called iPhone killer?
@ME2Adept
"Do u honestly think regular everyday people give a fuck about this Android nonsense you guys keep wanking off to? Like any normal person is just going to up and cancel their contract with AT&T just to go over to Verizon or T-Mobile for the Nexus One?
YEAH...umm SURE. And I'm fucking Gisele Bundchen....LMAO"
Tom Brady is sure going to be pissed you are with his woman
@ME2Adept
Ugh the only people who call this the a so called iPhone killer are fanboys and anti-fanboys, I call this the so called...
"Awesome Android phone that co-exists in a world with the iPhone that has strengths and weaknesses just like every other premium device on the market and shouldn't be constantly compared to the iPhone because If you wanted an iPhone then you'd already have one but some people just don't so this is one of their options...uh...phone"
....its shorter in my mind :-)
@Solidstate89 Of course if you could use the 30 minutes a day browsing on any Android set will take away from your life waiting for page loads, you could just get a 3GS instead :)
ATT does need to stop coasting on the iPhone exclusivity, but VZW isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread; we all need to stop acting like they weren't the last holdout for nixing WiFi and locking down GPS. I know that was so 5 months ago, but past behavior gives a clue as to a carrier character. Which isn't to say they each don't suck in their own perfect little snowflake ways. ATT doesn't suck everywhere and your experience is not everyone's experience. VZW sucks in Minneapolis, ATT sucks in NYC (though much better in the past few months).
One million in a few months vs 1 million by the time breakfast is done... alrighty. Open doesn't automatically equal better or Microsoft wouldn't have 92+% of desktop operating system users. Don't get me wrong, Android is definitely my second choice for a mobile OS, but they need to grow some cajones and bring multitouch, a new music app and a fix for whatever causes stuttering scrolling and slow page loads on a Webkit browser with a 1ghz CPU pushing it.
@ME2Adept
I personally prefer the JitterBug; it's sales numbers are unbelievable. /sarcasm
Android is not restricted to one phone on one carrier. The sales of all Android phones matter, and Android has gone from only one phone available on one carrier to various phone ones on various carriers (including the largest, Verizon). I'm on AT&T with an iPhone 3G, and will get an Android device as soon as one comparable with AT&T 3G is available. Why? Because it totally destroys my iPhone in terms of features I expect from my smartphone.
@TheGM
Can you show us the sales of all Android phones?
@TSIG AT&T isn't boned until they lose iPhone exclusivity. Once they lose that people will A) jump to T-Mobile for the cheaper calling plans or B) jump to Verizon for the more reliable network
@ME2Adept
The ideas of Apple's app store are that with millions of applications you are bound to find what you need. However, because of the limitations on the store itself Android has way more function to their applications. The only thing that the iPhone has over android, in terms of the app store itself, is the fact that it has a huge mobile gaming center. Which, I agree, would be better for the masses. But, personally, that is not worth being on AT7T, not being able to protect my phone with their insurance plan, and having to deal with proprietary software.
@dabuttmonkee
Yeah that must be why the App store is more successful than the Android alternative.
@TheGM
Yes TheGM where are the sales numbers to DATE of all the Android devices on the market here in the US?
For that matter what's the sales like worldwide. android vs iPhone.
I doubt it's even a competition....
@ME2Adept
@Goona
Holy shit, look what 5 seconds on google brings you, and this article was back in November, with 800,000 units estimated sold. Idiots.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/11/30/motorola-droid-closes-in-on-its-one-million-sold-target/
@Solidstate89
Those aren't official numbers dumbo.
@Goona
You have to be the stupidest fanboy I've ever seen. You really think the iPhone just MAGICALLY started off with about 100,000 apps when it first launched? Yeah, totally .Ever smartphone OS just immediately has a huge install/programmer base for that. In just a year Android already has 10,000+ apps, and it hasn't even been out nearly as long as the iPhone. Try using logic in your posts before you make them. You'll seem less like a fool.
@Solidstate89
Are you serious? Dude somebody stated the Droid has sold a million units. I ask for official numbers and you insult me. LOL. You are not serious.
@Goona
Thanks for continuing to prove me right.
@Solidstate89
So in other words you don't know the official numbers. Thanks.
I love it. You iPhone fanboys can say the Droid hasn't sold well, but when someone else says it has, you ask for sales figures. Well then where are your sales figures showing it hasn't sold well?
@EGOvoruhk
The dude claimed Droid has sold a million units, we asked for proof from reliable sources like let's say the companies who actually sell them and he couldn't provide it. Damn are some of you that daft?
The Droid fanboys are mad. They are downranking me everywhere. Idiots.
@zeitgeist
Verizon sucks in Minneapolis? Hmm... I work all over the metro area and haven't had problems in my almost 7 years with Verizon.
Keep trying suckas. Android is garbage.
