Microsoft announces Game Room for Xbox 360

This one leaked out a bit ahead of schedule along with the rest of Microsoft's big CES announcements, but Robbie Bach has now gotten fully official with Game Room for the Xbox 360, which promises to recreate the old school arcade experience for you (and your avatar). Set to launch "this Spring," it'll initially give you access to thirty classic arcade games, which you'll be able to buy once and play on both your Xbox 360 and your PC. The real action seems to be on the Xbox 360 though, as that's where you'll be able to challenge your friends to a "show down," although there unfortunately doesn't seem to be any betting of Microsoft points instead of quarters. Head on past the break for a quick promo video.

thats meh,
but on an unrelated note, did u know that joshua topolsky was a music artist by the name of joshua ryan? his song "pistolwhip" is epic
i did not know this until i wikiapedia'd him 2 seconds ago
@RyanGorup
Just been looking at that and I'm calling bullshit. That means joshtops has a secret life that we didn't know about.
If its true then that blows my mind.
@kris120890
Based on the snooping, er...research I've done, I think it is legit.
@kris120890 Yea this is true, and it's even on his personal website. He's never tried to hide it, and I'm not sure why you find it so mindblowing.

@kris120890
Surprisingly, it's true. He had a top 40 single in the UK.
@RyanGorup
yeah and he seems to know the guy from !!! too . . . what an insidious man we are congregating to.
@RyanGorup
WOW i find this mindblowing! lol by looking at him you would never figure this out

Here is his song.
@The Punisher
Well that explains the intro music to all the podcasts and engadget's penchant for fingertop turntables. :/
I smell a flop. This is pointless IMO. I can get all the "classic" games for free on the internet.
*sigh* Try again Microsoft.
@BigJayDogg3 we could also get them on XBLA already, there is no point in making the process take longer by having us walk our avatar to a virtual arcade machine just to play an old game, if i wanted this nostalgic experience i'd go to a real arcade
Meh... If it was to be nostalgic, then I will need the mustache-mullet guy with the red apron walking around, smoking, handing out change, and checking out the underage girls in a dark and foreboding arcade with thick smoke hanging from the ceiling. Plus I'll need wood paneling, orange carpet, and tore up red and black vinyl covered bar stools on which to sit while playing Robotron 2084. Oh, and the arcade will need to be in the corner of the mall, so when the older kids beat what little change I have to play games, no one will be around to help me.
@MichaelDola
Oh man the old days....... We still have one arcade left in Coney Island. Its half the size and has the same stuff as dave and busters....... But still the lights are low and is exactly the way its always been.
Wow! I can play 30 year old arcade games from the comfort of my own living room? The future is NOW!
Sony did this first, and they did it better. They just called it Home.
@Dinochicken Xbox 360 did online content in general first, and they did it better. They just called it Xbox Live.
@Dinochicken
You got served
@Dinochicken
i would hardly give credit to the 360 when it comes to online play. I mean, if you really want to think about it, all they did was take some of the best features from many of the standard multiplayer PC games over the years and basically take all the good stuff and throw it under 1 roof. They did it well, but its not like they invented online gaming like some people would like to think.
But honestly, anyone who's seen Home, this is such on obvious and blatant rip its not even funny. Well, except for sony deciding to throw in every game that was featured in 1982/1983s War Games w/ matthew broderick. Would u like to play a game?
Wonder if this is going to go the way of "Primetime"
Playstation 3 already has this. It's called Home. 360 fanboys laughed at it then but of course will praise it now.
Dinochicken beat me to it.
@willxcore
Actually, no. Its pointless on both consoles.
@willxcore strange, i seem to remember the Playstation Marketplace, Trophies, and many other aspects of the PSN ripping off Xbox Live, but i guess you fanboys can have your little moment of feeling cool
@willxcore
I'm still laughing at it now.
Game Room is ridiculously pointless. As it's been stated above, we can just go to Arcade and play these games faster now.
@bigdonny Difference is, I never called any of it dumb when it was only for the Xbox. I welcome their additions to the PS3, I like the PSN Store better than XBLM and I think Trophies are more rewarding than Achievements. On the other hand I also feel like this "Game Room" gimmick improves on Sony's Home as well.
But what you fail to recognize is my main point, that Xbox fanboys were laughing at Home but now they have their own version that they will ultimately defend. Foolish.
@willxcore sorry but i don't think we will defend this, it looks boring and pointless since we already have XBLA, i will give this one try and most likely never play with it again, just like Home, i have a PS3 and have used Home twice, being bored to death both times and stopping after 10 minutes
@bigdonny
Though creating someone really, really fat and dancing in the middle of people's conversations never fails to amuse me.
@willxcore
You're a fool
@willxcore
*snif* *snif* I smell a PS3 fanboy.
I only own a 360 and I can say that I have no interest in this. As far a copying anyone, both have copied each other in some fashion over the years so don't even bring that into the thread.
800 MS points would be my maximum for a retro arcade collection like this... not sure if I'd even pay that.
How lame. Many classic arcade games are difficult to play with the x-box controls. The great thing about the arcade was that every game had specialized controls. The x-box controls aren't good enough to handle a game like asteroids.
Half of these games are old intellivision crap. Space armada??? I had these games and they were great for their time...but remeber back then arcades existed because the tech at home wasn't as good....so get taito space invaders, not space armada....come on they should at least license some good arcade game content, not atari 2600 and intellivision garbage
This is looking kind of like PS3's HOME, but just the ARCADE part of it. I think HOME is pretty LAME. Does ANYONE bring there friends into there own HOME with their Paid for Furniture and Barbecue and other garbage? That part of HOME was/is really lame, not to mention it's SLOW, and from what I hear a lot of B.S. goes on around there!!!
While this Gameroom is Similar. It's a game room only. I can see it as like with the Netflix Movie streaming with 6 of your friends and their Avatars, to having you and your 6 friends going into a Gaming room to play some classic arcade games.
Ya, seems like of LAME typing it!!! It's a little to close to HOME and PS3 Copying, and SONY has Copied the 360 on the PS3 all over the place. I think I'd check it out once and never use it again. It's pointless. Instead I'd like to see more LIVE games like 1 Vs.100 like MS had talked about!!! Other Game show type shows. 1 Vs. 100 with what 102 Avatars on screen is kind of cool, but there needs to be other Game Shows. Work on THAT, not this silly Gameroom.

Thanks in advance for all you members' help in this regard.

This is Gay. Who cares other then some prepubescent console freaks. Where is my news about Win Mobile 7.0 and the upgrade for the HD2 =P
Video fail. Or is it just me?
just a copy of playstation home game room with more old arcade games but same concept, a load of rubbish
Remember some news about something of Xboxlive on winmo 7? Maybe this will come to winmo7, so u'll be able to play from xbox, PC and a phone?
I'm looking forward to this, but no release date this close to spring probably means they're still working the bugs out of it.
