I was bummed to find out the 1st gen did not have video capability with the front display on, seemed logical to me! Seems like the perfect camera to strap onto a hand rail on a roller coaster (using a superclamp, of course), so you can use the front panel to line up your shot, without having a bulky camera with it's flip out monitor getting jarred by the wind .... Don't you love doing POV roller coaster/ride videos? I know I do...
