Focus on Design
In 2010, Samsung builds on its tradition of innovative design by introducing narrower bezels and brushed metal frames in silver and black– pushing the limits beyond the familiar black bezels of many HDTV's. In particular, Samsung developed a groundbreaking four-legged quad stand that makes the TV look more like furniture than device and a new "mystic earth" Touch of Color™ (ToC™) design scheme with chrome edging to better match a living room's décor. With a wide-ranging pallet of materials and designs, Samsung offers something for virtually anyone's tastes and interior design preferences. What's more, the new LED TVs match Samsung's 2010 line of Blu-ray players and home theater systems bringing a cohesive element to a home entertainment room.

Redefining the Remote
In another industry first, Samsung developed an easy to use on-board TV display full touch-screen remote control. The remote's color touch-screen makes understanding features and options easy and simple. Its integrated Wi-Fi and infrared technology controls TV and AV devices with the on-screen buttons and QWERTY keyboard. It allows users to watch broadcast content directly on the remote so you can watch the first part of the big game, while a Blu-ray movie is just wrapping up on the large screen HDTV(9000 Series only). You can also browse music, photos, and video files from a DLNA certified PC then swipe the chosen content in the direction of the TV to enjoy on the larger screen (9000 Series only). The remote is the primary remote control for the 9000 Series and a derivative version of it is sold separately as an option for other LED TV models including the 7000 and 8000 Series.

Samsung TVs are the best, they make some real good quality TVs. I'm a little skeptical though, lol. Is something this thin even possible??? Holy shat... looks like it's no wider than a stack of 15 pieces of paper.
Modern TVs are beginning to remind me of Kate Moss.
@pina Your next TV will be snorting coke off the blu-ray player no doubt.
Super slim is pretty cool, but once we got past that ~4 inch thickness mark does it really actually matter?...I mean We have 2 regular thickness TVs mounted on the wall and don't yearn for them to be slimmer because they're intruding the precious airspace...in front on the TV?
Please someone tell me why all these TV's are going anorexic instead of adding decent speakers or dvd drives and more inputs and such.
@yulebellow
I sort of agree. I think it's "cool" from an observer of technology perspective... but for practical value - 2" is just about as thin as 6mm (for me) [insert joke about what she said].
If I was in the market, and the 6mm was only a manageable price increase over 2", then I'd think about it. But I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to replace an already acceptably svelte set for a new one, just so I can brag to my friends that it is thinner.
To be fair, though, some of these new ones are not just thinner - many have improved specs, too.
@yulebellow
Well, obviously making it thinner only makes it that much easier to move if you're the type of person that isn't "domestically stable".
The other benefits come from less materials used, so that's better for the environment. And the power usage will almost certainly be less than a larger TV.
And you might have a point about the speakers, but I'd rather have a TV like this that is 15 sheets of paper thick and toss some REAL 7.1 or 8.1 speakers or whatever the new hip thing dolby's puttin' out these days.
@yulebellow I said this yesterday in another thread....
Its not necessarily that thinner is necessary. But rather reduced weight and less materials. You have two 4" thick LCDs, how huge was the wall mount bracket you had to install?
With these thin LED LCDs, the materials used to make the unit is reduced (green, cost), and the weight goes down as well. So hanging a thin and light LED LCD on the wall goes from $100 mounting system requiring lots of heavy lifting, down to two screws into studs that I can do by myself in under a minute with my stud finder, drill and a level laser.
I never liked that huge wall mount kit for LCDs and Plasmas. I don't mind the two small screw holes to hang an 8-10lb TV.
@yulebellow Um, I don't want a dvd drive, grandpa.
Does the super thin model have both edge lit and local dimming? That would be odd. Please take real pictures of the LED 9000, that is one sexy looking thang
Back in the day, we had to be concerned about a TV falling on a child and crushing them. Now we have to worry about it coming down and severing a limb! Damn, these things are thin!
Hey engadget. Can you please bring back the "click here to read full press release" buttons for the mobile version of the site.
No sizes, specs, or prices. GG Samsung.
sounds like Sling's remote
As long as all this 3D silliness is optional and not shoved down our throats I'm fine with it. I only have vision in one eye so while new big TV's are fabulous, 3D isn't physically possible for me to see :)
- D
TSA would be scare.
That thing looks like it'd fall over if I sneezed on it.
Samsung is unmatched
I hope 3D fails hard. What a gimmick.
@metric I agree. 3D is such a stupid idea. Good cinema and tv isn't about how it looks, and even when it is, 3D is overkill. Just focus on content. The Idiots that support 3D are the idiots that think Transformers and Avatar are the greatest films ever made.
@dedparrot Agreed. I don't mind seeing a 3D movie every once in a great while, but putting on glasses and getting eye strain to watch the news is not appealing.
@metric
Currently its only a gimmick because one has to wear the glasses.
Remove that neccessity and I for one would love to watch sports or play video games in 3d, but watching a Movie no thanks.
The 3D features should in no way be a justified way of increasing the price on these new TVs but I fear that is exactly whats going to happen and the prices for these will be way over inflated. There are some sweet deals on some of the tvs on the shelf at the moment due to the recession making every thing realistic in value, and when one compares the tech in those to the new ones I just shake my head at the price the new ones are being advertised at.
@JJ I agree with you. I think 3D tv's will remain really high priced and will take somewhere from 5-10 years to enter the mainstream. Unless prices drop to somewhere near £500 here in the UK, no-one will really care.
@metric
but i dont understand why they cant cover the screen with a film of 3d glasses glass
@wrsu1996gmailcom Because the only reason for the glasses is to block out one of the two displayed images to each eye. The film over your left eye blocks out only the right image, the film over your right eye blocks out only the left image. If you put one film over the whole screen you'd just see a standard 2D image, if you put both films over the screen you'd see nothing but black. It IS possible to put a film over the screen which acts as a bunch of lenses to get different images to each eye (I'm sure you've seen this done on postcards or advertisements on boxes, the image changes when you look at it from different angles). But it's highly dependent on where you sit, thus worthless for anything other than, say, a desktop computer.
@metric I hope color fails. What a gimmick. I hope sound fails. What a gimmick. I hope "big screen" TVs fail. What a gimmick.
They all serve the same role; provide greater immersion in the director's imagined world. If you don't care for that, perhaps you should buy a Kindle and stop trying to neuter the cinematic experience.
Looks like it will break in half if you breath to close to it. I doubt these TVs will even release this year. I waited 8 months last year for Samsung to release a LCD monitor they announced at CES and just gave up after it took so long to come out.
6mm? That is going to look real good on an articulated mount that is 2" thick. Sure it weighs less and they can shrink down the mounts but there is still the issue of deflection (sagging) even though the strength will be there.
I saw 3D TV the other day at Fry's and it was not something I'd want to view at home. Dimmer than without the glasses and reminds me of Viewmaster viewing, back in the 50's. I can easily do without 3D TV.
well, being that thin, let's hope they didn't even bother with the built in TV speakers, because imagine how bad that'll sound.
How can the 750 LCD TV be 3d compatible? An old LCD capable of 3d or is it an updated version?
How can the 750 LCDTV be capable of 3d... its already how old??
