3 years in the Cell phone industry is going back to the paleozoic era. Compared with the Android phones coming out, Apple needs to pull something new out of their hat quickly...
Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus. What's the "Plus"? Apparently an entirely new build?
@JoeBlow
The Plus is the amount of money you'll be paying V over sprint.
For the iPhone fans- Apparently the iPhone is coming to Verizon this summer... I've read that they are finishing a CDMA version and the 4G network is set to start it's launch..
I, however, have been waiting for the Pre since it came out.. I wouldnt switch from Verizon for anything. I'm just so glad my contract is set to renew in April. the bugs should be fixed by then and the price down... CANT WAIT!!!
Any news on the PIXI's processor? any upgrade there?
@beatleman1943
No way Verizon's 4G will be rolled out completely this year.
@Oghowie yeah but like i said it's "set to start launch" It will take time, but I believe some cities will have it by the end of 2010... I live near Boston and they did the testing for it there and in Seattle during the summer... I was one of the lucky ones to use it, and I'm not exaggerating when I say when i went back to the 3G it was like going back to dial-up from broadband...
But I have read that it's coming out this year and will be completely out in the US by 2013
@beatleman1943 Man I've been longtime Sprint guy(because I'm not of age to switch D; ) but I've been dying for an iPhone ever since I got my hands on one, I know my friends iPhones better than they do, I turn 18 in exactly a month. I can only wait and hope the iPhone makes its way to CDMA, if not, I'm still fine with switching to ATT. I have a strong feeling LTE will dominate WiMax when finally put into place.
tomorrow is going to be mostly about software not new or upgraded hardware.
I would consider palm's web OS if it were running on a device with better hardware and a better look. Oh yeah and no hard keyboard.
@Ezye1313 whats wrong with a (good) physical keyboard?
@Ezye1313 I think i've seen the homebrew community come out with a virtual keyboard for the Pre, in case you'd be interested
it'd be nice if an updated version would come out for sprint, but i'm guessing if anything like that would happen they'd do it a la iPhone (you know announce some sort of upgraded hardware, etc. a year after the last one)
Am I wrong in noticing that the Plus DOES NOT have a slide-out keyboard?! That's a major change, and not a good one . . . I think the form factor of the Pre would be indistinguishable from the Pixi
@andreb the Pre does, the Pixi doesnt.. same as Sprint's.. it says Slide Out QWERTY under Pre
@andreb
yeah youre wrong.
Sorry - I am wrong, I thought the document pictured the regular Pre and Plus Pre.
Anyway, if that's all Palm shows for the Pre tomorrow it'll be a non-event. I'm not a techie; maybe you all could answer this question: does additional storage affect speed? In other word, if one were to load up their phone's storage with Apps galore, would that -for example- slow the browser speed?
@andreb browser would not be affected by available storage.
@andreb that won't be all that Palm will show Thursday, the homebrew community has discovered that in the latest firmware update OpenGL and SDL native apps are under the hood - be prepared for an announcement for WebOS similar to the native-apps-appstore announcement from Apple.
Droid still does for VZW: did I see 320x480 and 320x400?
Face meet palm.
Looks like Palm is throwing it all on its appstore and WebOS merits, especially if AT&T and TMo get the same stuff. That's not the best move IMO, then again it's the same Apple game plan and worked for them.
That may fail since they can't even launch the paid apps in Canada. Hell, after the last WebOS yesterday I can't even update the meager apps I have available, it simply states there are updates and shows what I have installed.
Likely has not been tested outside the US, as I don't think they have anyone to test the updates north of the border.
awesome! been waiting a while for this, so can't wait to see the details tomorrow. will be returning my droid eris next week
why is everyone complaining? Palm pre wasn't due for a hardware update. Palm just came out with the pixi. What they need to do is open up the gpu, get flash running and show us some cool new software. There is nothing wrong with pre and palm doesn't need a ground breaking phone every CES to stay alive.
No need to get a pre plus of course I already have a pre, but I surely expect a new webOS device with larger screen, faster speed with nice design, I know palm won't fail me.
@axerlzx
I'd bet against a new device this soon . . . the smart move is to perfect the current line-up IMO . . . maybe a proper, updated hardware/bigger screen Pre 2.0 next year
I just hope it comes with a slightly better battery...
Did anyone notice the line on the specs that read "Broadband Access Connect : Yes, Bluetooth only" does that mean EV-DO tethering via bluetooth? I know Palm just announced a tethering app for webos. Don't know if this is related or just a Verizon thing.
