Vodafone promises Nexus One 'in a few short weeks'
Nexus One's vague Europe-bound release window has tightened up quite a bit. A Vodafone spokesperson said the Google Phone is coming first in the UK and -- here's the kicker -- within "a few short weeks." France, Germany, and a few other unnamed companies are following after later in the year. Enjoy your new Android device across the pond, ladies and gents.

How about we get the same report for Verizon? I'm chomping at the bit for this beast.
@nicholiservia
I never understand people's issues with Verizon's pricing.
I pay $130 after fees and taxes a month for 2 lines for me and my wife. 1400 minutes (with the free Verizon to Verizon and the 10 friends and family we never use over 100 minutes a month), Unlimited text Verizon to Verizon and 1000 out of network texts for each line and unlimited data for each line.
So comes out to $65 a line which isn't bad one bit for all of that.
@JackieTreehorn Since Vodafone owns a pretty large stake in Verizon (almost 50% iirc), it should be sooner rather than later.
@JackieTreehorn
What discounts do you have? I get 15% off primary voice line and 20% off data, but that still puts me at $146 for what you described even before taxes and fees.
With the VZW discounts, btw, a Nexus on T-Mo (unlocked with even more plus) would cost me $300 more over 2 years than a (free at Best Buy) Droid Eris with comparable plan. Hopefully the Nexus will be $180 on Verizon as well, saving me almost half that difference and keeping me on the best network.
@JackieTreehorn There's something special with that "few short weeks" Now coming to voda, sprint, and veriz as well officially on spring. Seeing google releasing their Nexus One to multiple carriers is just a dream come true. Although the rumors that Nexus One will be open for AT&T didn't push through (oups for ATT) Carrier Details: http://bit.ly/nexus-one-on-multiple-carriers-details
Yeah. and it'll cost like a million pounds. BITE ME!
@dedparrot It's going to cost an arm and a leg. BITE ME!...............see what i did?!
no..
@dedparrot
You saying you are fat, and that one arm and one leg weighs a million pounds?
That is interesting indeed. However, after all of JT's hate of the N1 during the podcast makes me think that most Verizon users would be better off buying a droid.
I'm still kind of wanting this phone, but Engadget did a good job at deflating my hopes for this.
@Rick James :
I'd suggest you to check out the reviews at other sites like phonedog, gizmodo etc and make up ur mind after that. Its better to have a second or even a third opinion before buying any device.
@Siddharth delete gizmodo from that list. they are even bigger iPhone fans than Topolsky. just read the hd2 "review" over at gizmodo and you will see one of the most biased reviews in your whole life.
@Siddharth
I've read several other site reviews. Gizmodo did say that they thought the phone was great--however the browser speed tests really left something to be desired for me especially considering it wasn't much faster than the Droid. I guess I think if they are going to leave out a multi-touch virtual keyboard, at least the droid has a physical one to back it up. And coming from a Storm 1 that lacks multitouch in the keyboard, I'm very sick of not having it on my phone for typing.
@Siddharth Agreed. I think this phone is awesome even though I'm still very happy with my 3GS. That said, if I didn't already have one I'd be giving the N1 some serious consideration.

@Rick James
I would take engadgets video with a grain of salt. I have a Nexus One and it loaded the page just 2 seconds after the iPhone did in their review. That includes the higher resolution pictures and screen.
@Rick James :
To tell u the truth.. The engadget browser comparison seemed fishy to me..

I'm going to have to opt for a sim free handset sadly Vodafone.
My sim will be popping out of my hero and into my shiny new Nexus.
@ChazClout
Wish I had £330 to do the same : (
We Fat Americans don't care about UK or its phones!
@(Unverified)
That's a shame. I'll proably lose sleep tonight now. :(
i didn't know weeks were "shorter" in europe...
India.. please.. pretty please!
Will we have multitouch in the UK, like with the 'milestone'?
@Craig Hopefully we'll get better support out of Google vs Motorola. They've been shocking with my Milestone!
If anyone in the UK is after an unlocked & unsubsidised I reckon you'd better hot step it over to google.com/phone an get one on import cos soon as it's available officially on Vodafone UK I bet the unlocked ones will be sold via google.co.uk for £529 rather than $529. We always end up stiffed like that this side of the pond...
@Charlie Eggwhite Not with phones. Our phones are free on contracts and we don't have to use minutes/texts to receive SMS's and Calls unlike those across the pond.
@SteveDhalai
Smart. Not really. Google Voice. Unlimited phone and sms.
@SteveDhalai Phones attached to lenghty price plans/contracts yes but unlocked phones w/o contracts... nope we get stiffed just like we do with pretty much every electronic gadget available.
@dank414
Google Voice only works in the US currently....means little to anyone in the UK
@Charlie Eggwhite I don't think Vodafone will be allowed to distribute the phone unlocked and why would they? They would want people signing up to a contract thus spending more money on Vodafone.
@SteveDhalai I'm not saying Vodafone will distribute it unlocked. I'm saying once the N1 is official in the UK (i.e. when Vodafone start selling in on contracts) then Google will most likely slap up a google.co.uk/phone page (as opposed to the .com one) for us here in the UK and I'd bet that the price for the unlocked N1 will be nearer £529 than £330 which is roughly what it'll cost to import an N1 right now.
@Charlie Eggwhite
£330 + VAT + sales tax + shipping... closer to £400
@bigshape
Why would we have to pay US sales tax as well as UK VAT?
Thank You Vodafone!
Lets just hope all the snow at the moment won't stop any google vans taking the nexus to the vodafone stores :)
Touch the Android!
If Voda's price plans resemble the ones in the US by T-Mobile, it probably won't sell much...
For a phone that costs $500 unlocked, on a 2 year contract that should be free..
@(Unverified)
It probably will be free here in the UK, every phone that comes out is available free on contract here, but for decent phones that means a big bill per month.
@(Unverified)
It doesn't cost $500 on a two year contract. It costs $529 unlocked with no contract. This is pretty similar to nearly every smart phone out there, and cheaper then the iPhone.
Unlike in America, if you already have a phone you don't have to pay the 'subsidy' rates on a contract.
@Timmmmmm That's what i said. Notice the comma?
Let me clarify:
If a phone costs $500 unlocked without a contract, it is reasonable to expect the phone to be free with a 2 year contract
what is a "short week"? did vodafone introduce a new unit?
Probably £30 a month and up. I'll just enjoy my unlocked Milestone for now - £20 a month for unlimited internet and texts and 600 minutes on T-mo :)
@Imran That deal you got on the milestone sounds great for a phone that is very close to the nexus in capability. You've done great!
I don't see that deal on tmob site, nor some of the deal-finding sites -- would you mind sharing where you found it.
I'm certainly looking at one of
- Nexus 1
- Milestone
- Nokia N900 (as a linux geek this really is attractive!)
Thanks!
(I'm @planetf1 on twitter if it helps too)
@planetf1
I got the Milestone unlocked from simplyelectronics.net, they've got a sale at the moment! The sim is a sim only deal from t-mo called Solo 20. I was interested in the N900 (i've owned an N810 previously) but I need a device I can use one handed on the move, and the N900 isn't that device yet, maybe with the upcoming firmware update, but not yet. The Milestone is very nice, it all works, the screen is quality and the keyboard is nice once you get used to it!
"France, Germany, and a few other unnamed companies"
France and Germany are companies?! lol
haha on vzw! getting my nexusone tomorrow... vodafone getting it soon because it's a gsm/umts carrier...
With a Contract!
If this come out for Vodafone Ireland I'll switch over!..... wait..... no, i won't but i was tempted there for a sec. Them and 02 are pretty much the same prices and they own the market between them, i'm with one of the under dogs with a SE C905, a good phone (better be for what i paid for it) but i do lust after an android phone....
