Vodafone promises Nexus One 'in a few short weeks'
Nexus One's vague Europe-bound release window has tightened up quite a bit. A Vodafone spokesperson said the Google Phone is coming first in the UK and -- here's the kicker -- within "a few short weeks." France, Germany, and a few other unnamed companies are following after later in the year. Enjoy your new Android device across the pond, ladies and gents.

Here's hoping they offer it with a decent contract since all of their current plans available in the UK seem to have pretty dismal data usage limits.
lol AWESOME, i work for voda so ill get a half price contract and subsidised phone mwah ha ha ha ha, p.s 1st i heard about us gettin it early, although there were a few emails going round today about what level of support we'll offer when we do get it.......billing, everything else is supported by google themselves......well thats what they say, but thats not what'll happen, if somebody calls and asks how to set-up email im gonna give em help before packin em off to google!
I hope later in the year does not mean after 6 mths ... cause by then something else will show up and i will be like ... lets wait for this ... this looks better than nexus one ....hmmm
The newspapers in the UK say it's coming out on T-Mobile. Weird
The Hero has been very popular here in the UK, so it makes sense Vodafone are to offer its successor.
I was about to upgrade to a 32GB iPhone 3GS, but Apple's total failure to link the iPhone to the cloud (I have to upload my photos to my Mac, then sync them to an iTouch to view them on the road) is a massive flaw that shows they have to date, failed to grasp what Google have done so well, and that is that your phone should be a window onto the cloud, not an extension of your larger devices. (me.com/.mac is paid and poorly implemented, so not really relevant at this time.)
The killer features of the Nexus for me are browsing Picasa images and speech to any text field. The fact the camera takes decent photos is a major bonus too. The shot by Michael Arrington over at Tech Crunch is excellent for an indoor photograph from a phone camera.
Google were the first company created with the web at heart who also appreciate human factors (unlike Yahoo) and so are primed to provide the best cloud surfing experience - until something better comes along.
Apple will always provide the most tidy, shiny and technologically advanced solutions, but Google will provide the versatility and flexibility. And that is a killer value proposition.
@Oflife I love this post.
@soccerpro100cn Thanks. Have been designing gadgets (with the hope to bring one or two to market in due course) since the 1980s and get frustrated that the industry has yet to get it right. However, Google (and Motorola in particular, not HTC) are headed in the right direction. Moto are innovative and the best at mobile wireless technology. They invented it and should know.
@Oflife You say moto are innovative -- that has been true in the past, but in recent years (since the RAZR) their phones have been dreadfully boring and not featured any where.
When I heard about the droid I was very pleasently surprised and thought "Motorola are back". It really does look like a great device.
And unlike some manufacturs I wouldn't doubt hw quality.
Right now my fav brands are
- Nokia - mainstay of mine for years, but frankly S60 is waning. N900/maemo is interesting, but then I'm a linux geek so heck it's the best out there! Whether it will be mass market I'm not so sure. the phones aren't bad, just a little tired now.
Motorola - droid.
HTC - mixed, but they're really putting out some decent devices now.
Whilst I wouldn't buy one, recent samsungs are actually not half bad for less demanding users (not smartphone though,)
Would this Vodafone version be GSM or CDMA ? If CDMA, i'd have to imagine that verizons version would be following up just as quickly.
@JRUN4 All mobile networks in the UK are GSM
I'll probably wait for the HTC Bravo which is basically the Nexus with the Sense UI.
"France, Germany, and a few other unnamed companies are following after later in the year"
Since when are France and Germany companies?
And still no word on release in the land of Oz.... we seem to be a tech nomans-land :( no Milestone, no Nexus One, we like cool phones here too :)
will be available from the 3rd of feb if this forum poster is to be believed...

@Oflife
Wait...you take a photo on your iPhone...and then upload to your Mac...then sync via iTunes to your iPod Touch so you can view them on the same 480x320 that the iPhone you just took the pictures with has? There's a simpler way to view the photos mate...
...hint...use the iPhone!
