VUDU coming to Sharp, Toshiba, adds tons of new apps
The folks over at VUDU have been very busy apparently, not only have deals been struck to get VUDU onto new Sharp, Sanyo, and Toshiba HDTVs and Blu-ray players, but there are also 100 new apps for select models -- TV manufactures like LG can decide not to support the Apps even though the VUDU movie streaming is supported. The list is pretty extensive, but many of the names look iffy -- more like show names than apps -- so we'll hold back on judgement until after we've gotten a chance to try them first hand. There are some that piqued our interest though; like Twitter, Facebook and Weather. Check out the entire list for yourself after the break.

Man, I remember when people were saying VUDU was going to die a slow, painful death. You've got to hand it to this company, they're doing a fantastic job with digital distribution.
This is a BIG step forward for their company. It's good to see too, VUDU has been innovating on all fronts, I hear their 1080P "HDX" video streaming is pretty legit. Way to bring HD Video streaming to the masses in another form than the horrid Comcast ON Demand.
@DonClark
Netflix already has HD streaming to TV's, but the problem is that the audio is sub par Dolby Pro Logic :(
@(Unverified)
True, I'm not talking about HD streaming as a "technology", I'm talking about as one-stop-shop for new releases and TV shows. Netflix requires a monthly subscription and does not offer streaming new releases of movies or TV shows.
This is a good step forward in getting streaming TV/Movies to the general public.
@DonClark
I don't know about "innovative" .... but yea, good for them.
Amazon has been doing this already. HD movies. So have cable providers, and the aforementioned Netflix (although subscription based)
I don't know why they didn't do this sooner. This is what VUDU should have been from Day 1 and what kept me from buying their expensive hardware. I also think their high def content is good competition for netflix.
@vypergts
the only problem is their pricing. an HD stream from VUDU will cost you about $4.00 per title to rent. all you can eat streaming (most in SD, i know) will only cost $8.99 per month from Netflix (and you can up it to $10.99 per month to get blu-rays instead of dvds mailed to you).
there's just not a true "every household" market for $3-$5 movie rentals (not to mention you need 4mbps or faster internet to watch HDX video).
make VUDU $1 for SD and $2 for HD streams and they'll grown their user base quickly. at their current prices i'm better off going to Hollywood Video, Blockbuster, etc.
so what happens if I already have the VUDU machine, will I get an update to get all these channels or apps?
Where is ESPN360? This seems to be the main stumbling block to cutting off my Directv subscription...no live sports with any of these streaming services.
@DarkElfa Didn't Microsoft already spend billions on WebTV to prove that people do not want to browse the web on their TV? I am all for enhanced apps with web based content, or web augmented TV programs (like live scores or player stats on sports programs), but browsing web pages on my TV? No thanks, been there, done that, threw it away.
