Intel Core presser: 32nm Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 CPUs (update: video!)

Scanning the sheet of new mobile CPUs (available after the break), we notice that the presently popular Core i5-520M ($225 when bought in bulk) and Core i3-330M (unlisted) appear to be the most affordable on deck, with the more powerful Core i7-620M (up to 3.33GHz with Turbo Boost) and ULV Core i7-640UM (up to 2.26GHz) likely to attract the most attention from those who don't like compromise. The i7-640UM fits within an 18W maximum TDP, while the majority of the line will be at 35W, with 25W low-voltage options available too. Intel was keen to remind us this includes the 10W "extra" juice consumed by the chipset and graphics which are obviated by the new integrated design.
Paul Otellini has managed to keep some announcements out of Shaun Maloney's hands, we were told, which means this afternoon's keynote (7.30PM EST) from the CEO may have some stuff we've not yet seen. Not entirely likely, but we can always hope. At least now that this is over, we can start prowling the Las Vegas Convention Center and delivering you hands-on impressions of all the new gear coming out with the new 32nm CPUs.
Update: we've added a video of the Core i5 vs Core 2 Duo after the break.

Intel should also have been keen to remind people their igp's suck balls.
@noneofyourbusinessbub
And who's IGP don't?
@noneofyourbusinessbub nvida's IGPs are pretty good
@noneofyourbusinessbub Just because it isn't up to par with your standards doesn't mean it won't have a position in current electronics.
@SirNoDroin
I never had a good experience with an Nvidia IGP. My Geforce Go 6150 ran hotter than my current 9600M GT.
Where are the processors that can auto switch from General CPUing to GPU code mode, that they were talking about a couple years ago?
I have a new i7, and while it is awesome, I never see more then 3 cores being used, and its not like I ever have any slow downs.
We get it, lots and lots of general purpose CPU cores...awesome, but I'd prefer to phase out GPUs.
QPI was a good start, but with smaller technology, u can pack more components into a single IC, so their should be less and less on the Mobo.
also intel IGP still sucks.
@SirNoDroin
You're not going to be phasing out GPUs anytime soon, the technology and design behind a GPU and a CPU is very very different.
Intel tried with Larabee and failed.
@SirNoDroin
Maybe check the latest numbers, the new IGPs are on par with AMD's 790, and about 95% of Nvidia's 9300m.
I think the phrase you're looking for is all IGPs suck.
@SirNoDroin
Larrabee! thats what I was thinking of.
Didn't follow the project closely, I didn't know that it failed.
thanks for the insight
This naming scheme is awful. What's to let you know how many cores your CPU has with there being nothing more than arbitrary model numbers? Let alone how many threads it has? I got why they dropped speed ratings from processor model names, but this? Christ.
Wow, wayyy to many numbers and information to remember. I used to know every processors number and speed by heart, now this is just ridiculous
It's not that debatable that Intel IGP is shit but but the point is, Dragon Age Origins is pretty damn impressive considering many of these chips are going to find their way into cheap ass shitboxes that go to office buildings across the world.
I want news on the i7 980 please
@Red Rover
I think that's what Otellini gets to announce tonight.
Why in the hell would they need to release so may variants? A tad overboard. Core i-infinity.
@(Unverified)
Two reasons: first, you become market leader by offering products that are useful to as many segments as possible.
Second, binning, say your target is 3.43GHz, some of your chips can't go that fast, you can either throw them away, or you can sell them as a slower, cheaper chip.
Found this.
@studio8jared you know what I FOUND? Is it just me or does the "faster" itunes seem to be running Windows 7 and the slower Vista? would that have anything to do with response time?

Apart from advanced gaming, could someone explain why the IGP in these new i5's would suck? Not everyone games. And increasingly those who do, do it on consoles. But if there's some other reason, I'd like to know.
Intel is misleading everyone again! Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 certified only for 2 spatial streams: http://certifications.wi-fi.org/pdf_certificate.php?cid=WFA7972 and not for 3 as they state in slides. I am saying "again" because they did same PR with 5300...
I would like to see how they achieve stated 3 streams... On USB 3.0 Intel chickened, because they new that they will not be able to cheat like they do with 802.11n standard...
Where the hell is the i9?!
@Akuda
There is no i9 and never was a plan for it.
The 6 core / 12 threads "Gulftown" CPU is called the i7 980X, not i9
What is Mia Hamm doing hanging out with a bunch of suits from Intel?
@FitFan Mia was there with the guys from Core Performance who built the CPro. It is an piece of equipment that customizes a workout to the needs of the user. I think it runs on one of their newer chips.
Gym Balls doesn't make you any cooler, Intel. If Nvidia was in the processor business, you'll be a dead rat already.
@joshl
No, Nvidia would pull a fermi and not release "the greatest chip known to man". However, they would do fake demos of the chip to convince fanboys not to buy the competitors products.
And if Nvidia did start to gain ground, Intel would get Monopolistic on their ass.
