LG X300 hands-on: thin, light, and handsome
Impressively thin and light, and that's really all you need to know about LG's X300. The touchpad and chiclet keyboards are comfortable, but what's really gonna seal the deal is the as-of-yet unknown price tag. Direct your eyeballs this way, why don't ya?

it's like an adamo without the butt
i like big butts and i cannot lie
@Peter Pan read: *spare* 2-cell for a total of 7 hours - the primary is probably a 4-cell that lasts 4+ hours, the 2-cell the remaining amount.
As for the post, Other specifications include a 1.3 megapixel web camera, a built in 3G modem, WiFi, and a two cell battery which is reported to give an impressive seven hours of usage.
The LG X300 comes with LG’s Smart Pack software which is designed to synchronize your smartphone to the netbook via Bluetooth, which means you can read and reply to your text message directly from the netbook. More details: http://bit.ly/lg-x300-details
wow that looks tight, got em in black?
@bob e
PEDOPHILE!
finally, an ultraportable that's actually thin. in this day and age, there's no excuse for some of the thick pieces of crap that are being released.
all manufacturers should learn from this. this is how thin all notebooks should be, no excuses. if it's any thicker than this, it's not worth my hard earned cash.
@Eraser
This isn't an ultra-portable, it's a netbook.
It's running the 2GHz z-series Atom.
@jon Thanks for the correction, but you've just solidified my point even further. It's sad that most of the recently released netbooks are no thinner than their old N270 counterparts. This should be the standard of thinness for all upcoming notebooks, netbooks, ultraportables, whatever. This just shows that IT PHYSICALLY CAN BE DONE, and we shouldn't accept the thick crap that manufacturers are currently offering to us.
@jon Atom doesn't necessarily mean netbook. "Netbook" is just a marketing term meant to justify slow, cheap hardware by getting people to actually expect a limited experience. But if a 2 GHz Z can handle a complete laptop experience, then the distinction is moot.
I did say "if" since I don't know much about the Zs. And "complete" doesn't mean gaming and heavy media editing, just that it can keep up with a recent budget laptop.
@Eraser VAIO X, perhaps?
@Eraser And I agree with you on thin. Apple's been under 1" for quite a while now. Hire some proper industrial designers and focus on thin for a while. General purpose computers are fast enough atm.
@Treefingers
"But if a 2 GHz Z can handle a complete laptop experience, then the distinction is moot."
It's an Atom, the same chip as the Vaio X. With the same GMA 500.
@Eraser
Fair enough, except the Z series chips aren't really laptop parts. They were designed for MIDs. You sacrifice a lot of performance for that svelt waistline.
I'm not positive but I think the Zs are fanless. That makes thin a whole lot easier.
@Eraser
strange that netbooks are getting thicker and thicker isnt it?? lol
i might finally have an excuse to sell my sony x505 now.
@dark star Ill buy it!
@Eraser: If every ultraportable was this thin battery life would suck a big one, none would have optical drives, and they wouldn't be so darned cheap! I agree, it's nice to have more of these on the market, but it's also nice to have the current plethora of "medium-sized" ones that have a better plethora of parts, are cheaper, and get way better battery life.
@Treefingers True enough but my dell 2400 has a pentium 4 2.66 ghz single core and like 512kbytes cache while the atom can go over 1mb cache and 64 bit processing. My computer is still fast enough to do many things and its a single core.
Anybody know what an EX-Port is?
@Mitch
It looks like a display port.
@Mitch
Wait, probably HDMI.
@Mitch
reminds me of the OQO exp port. it lets you connect to VGA, HDMI, whatever via an adapter. this is the only way they can make it slim cause the VGA port is quite thick
whats wrong with the primary picture?
You guys are getting really caught up in this thinness thing. It isn't just the CPU/motherboard that's the problem, its the lack of battery tech too. I expect this to be the same as the Vaio X, engineered to be slim, but with terrible battery life and expensive price for its complicated design.
Anyone have guesses at the price? I am quite clueless as to whether this will be overpriced or reasonable. It looks in a similar league to the Vaio X however this is LG and most of their stuff is in a reasonable price range. If that mystery port is HDMI and there are no other hidden catches (i.e. price and ports) then I'm sold. So who wants to crack a guess at the price?
What's with the power button as one of the keys in the keyboard layout?
@hp79
I guess you need to be careful if you want to turn "smart" on. Better stick with the default dumbness.
Since I was wanting find any hint about the price of this wonderful netbook, I searched over the Korean websites, and just found an information that this would be around $1000 in Korea, told by one of the LG person.. Hoped this would be under $800 but now I'm starting to think again...
@hyunseo0404 Hopefully by the time time they reach USA they are cheaper. I'm hoping somewhere in the sub $700 territory, however that may be wishful thinking. If it is below $700, has HDMI, and 3g is standard, I'll probably get one.
awesome, looks like a glossy screen though,
if they will offer a matte, and the screen opens 180 degrees this thing is mine!!
Please LG make another brand for the hi-tech stuff 'cause some people will never buy a nice looking laptop that has the same brand as their refrigerator
@elibi Thats too bad for all the people that own a Samsung refrigerator :P ( Like me, but who cares?)
@elibi Thats too bad for all the people that own a Samsung refrigerator :P ( Like me, but who cares?)
what is this EX-Port??
This reminds me of the "Intel" laptop that Intel was working on. This and the Adamo.
These "new designs" all feel so "retro" for some reason. The entire boxy-ness of it I guess. I love it.
What's that?
VISTA????
This thing is SEXY! Gonna have to look out for this one.
