MSI Jellow sliding all-in-one hands-on (video)
Here's something cool and different that caught our eye: the Jellow Family Computer is a concept device from MSI. This all-in-one has a sliding 23-inch HD LED display that moves to reveal a hidden keyboard underneath. The model being shown had a manually sliding screen, and reps were unsure about whether it would have an electric mechanism should it ever get to market. The mechanism certainly didn't seem close to ready, and it couldn't even close fully. Regardless, we're intrigued by the idea and managed to grab some video of the keyboard being removed. See it in action after the break.

Seems interesting, but I don't think I would want to have to slide up my pc to get to the keyboard
very nicely designed...and with a hide away keyboard...very original
really neat, but who wants to type on a wall instead of more like a table
@tatester48 the keyboard does come out lol...
@tatester48 Fail. lmao someone didnt watch the vid
@NexusElite haha your right, i didnt see the vid lol
@tatester48
Mouse storage fail?
that keyboard takes up quite a bit of room in that slim designed frame....not alot of space for some serious hardware,,,well have to wait to see what they can do with this
To all the confused people:
The keyboard is only stored on the back of the screen. You can take it out....
What a let down, I thought it was a giant sliding phone design pc. I wanted to see someone try to carry it around and type on it.
@Minions
Looks like a job for Dom Joly.

We'll see whether anyone ever takes the time to actually put the keyboard away.
there's always room for ...Jellow
Eh...another all in one...
I would get it just for the fact that screen is orgasmic
Forget the keyboard, that;s just bonus features
Haha that slding thing is ridiculous for a monitor that size, totally impractical too.
I hate to be a naysayer, but— NAY!
This falls under the heading of UBER-Crap Gadget.
Whoever dreamed this up this lame gimmick is a neat freak run amok.
"A place for everything, and everything in it's place", no matter how badly it pointlessly bulks up the unit's design.
I say fail— big time.
Good concept, but the slider could be problematic. It's supporting a 23" screen, rather heavy, so it needs to be smooth and durable. It wouldn't do for home or business if, after a year, the hinge creaks and doesn't slide anymore, and right now Engadget gives the impression that the mechanism needs real work.
Should've put it on one of the sides.
Close but not quite.
What I see coming as a new form factor is essentially a large multi-touch screen slate device with wall dock and large battery and keybaord.
So... it has a handle on the back and pop out photo-frame stand on back to support different viewing angles.
It lives in a dock on the wall in the kitchen - which charges the battery and maybe connects to other stuff - peripherals and what not.
It has a tv tuner, skype and full internet etc...
Tied in to home monitoring systems too.
So... watch tv while cooking, vid-calls on skype, answer e-mail or chat, watch a recipe vid or whatever....
Or - nice day out... pop it off the wall and carry it out to the deck and pop the stand out... watch tv or surf or write an e-mial or homework or whatever.
Basically a reinvention of the 'luggable' class machine... with large multi touch flat screen, integrated pop off keyboard and enough battery life to drive that big screen and computer for a few hours.
@savagemike
You are right. It seems like a great way to keep the wimmen folk barefooted and in the kitchen where they belong.
This is perfect! I've always hated having my keyboard right in front of my computer on the desk ready to go. I'd much rather spend 5 minutes packing it up and unpacking it every time I want to use my computer. This is genius.
