Palm Pixi Plus: WiFi-equipped and heading to Verizon
Good ole' Jon Rubinstein, live on stage just announced the Palm Pixi Plus. Looks like the only difference here from its predecessor is that it's got WiFi -- and it's bound for Verizon Wireless' network. Coming January 25th, just around the corner. No price, but you'll know when we do.
Update: Full specs are down in the source, and the press video is just past the break!

Don't forget the Pre Plus, which has not only double storage, but double RAM. The latter is huge and makes me wish it was coming to Sprint.
@jhoff80
Yeah this is kind of a slap in the face to Sprint IMO.
Yes I know Sprint has had both devices exclusively for months now but still. You'd think Palm would be nice/grateful enough to share the updated versions with Sprint as well as Verizon.
Kind of like how VZW got the first Palm 700w then sprint got the better 700wx with more ram and faster usage.
@jhoff80 thanks god they gave it a wifi finally, any chance of making a better deal out of it by not making us buy a data plan along with it, plssss
@jhoff80 Palm is trying to play this off as a big hardware move... 16gb internal storage?!?!
its a sad day for palm
@PalmIsGarbage
you must have a lot of pr0n
@jhoff80
Another damn CDMA phone.... wtf is the gsm version??????????????????
ARRGGGG!!!!! hate palm
@PalmIsGarbage Both new Verizon handsets will arrive on the market on January 25th; however neither Palm nor the carrier have announced pricing or not. They’ve also not revealed what extra fees there might be for tethering functionality. More of the specs and details: http://bit.ly/palm-pre-plus-pixi-plus-details
I concur about the storage capacity.. 16GB is kind of moot in my opinion.
So they make the Pixi out-of-date in three months, and then make it VZW exclusive?
Congrats Palm, I was totally ready to get whatever new device you were putting out come this summer. Now someone else is getting my business. I'm sure a lot of other Sprint customers will feel the same way.
@HurricaneDC
Not exactly. I literally just got my Pixi delivered today. Sure, I would have loved to have WiFi, but I'm saving at least $20/month by using it on Sprint. Not to mention my experience with VZ's customer service was terrible, VZ has their crazy $350 cancellation fee, and even after your two years are fulfilled you still owe them money if you want to change carriers.
And don't forget with Sprint calls to ALL mobile phones are free. So in this case if the phone you want is the Pixi Sprint is the better (and cheaper) choice in carriers.
Oh, and in case anyone was wondering I named my Pixi "Magnus Von Dynotron" to make up for the effeminate name.
AT&T?
And is Palm gonna announce anything better than these 2 devices? I hope so cuz if not that would be a failure in my opinion....Surely they've got the Pre2 in their pockets....
@TheRogueFFAngel according to AT&T's conference last night they're getting two webOS phones.
@TheRogueFFAngel They're just pulling an Apple: same form factor every year, innards updated.
@TheRogueFFAngel
Yeah you come to expect that from Apple.
Not to sure if it's going to work for Palm though.
I was expecting a Pre 2 to be honest. Or at least a new form factor that utilizes webOS.
And I knew about the 2 phones coming to AT&T. I was just wondering if Palm was gonna say that it was these 2 coming months later....
Kinda disappointed to be honest.
Well now I'm in a situation. Pre, DRIOD, Eris? Can't choose!
@Yoda
Not to mention Nexus One...
I was really hoping this would include a beefed-up processor. I like the touchscreen blackberry layout.
Pixi > Pre IMO, I just wish it wasn't so underpowered. I'd consider this heavily as my next phone if it had better specs.
Will this also have more memory and ram like the Pixi or is it just wifi added to it?
@Patlex Ya i agree. man i wish this phone had the palm pre plus specs. i like the Pixi better than the pre. The pixi lokks high quality. and has stereo speaker. the next Major Web OS phone is going to kick ass. I cant wait..... Please announce a new High end model that is GSM and that can be purchased unlocked. that would be my dream come true.
what about the palm pixi on sprint?
My rant:
Okay, I have had Sprint service since 2002, and have NEVER had any problems with service and am loyal because of that and lower-than-average pricing tiers.
The hardware lineup has always impressed me:
From the first camera phone and color screen phones, to the slimmest form factors and best PDA phones from 2003-2008 (Treo 300/600, Hitachi G1000 mammoth phone, HTC introduction: 6600 - 6800 etc.) Sprint was the place to go for the latest and greatest hardware. Say what you want, but the Palm Pre is a great phone and Sprint nabbed it with exclusivity (until spring of course)
NOW, Sprint is majorly upsetting me by providing little choice for a power user hungry for new technology. I am so tempted to switch to another carrier to upgrade my outdated HTC Touch Pro. Look, T-Mobile just got the HTC HD2 and Nexus One. AT&T has the iPhone, and Verizon has the Droid, Nexus One in spring, and other cool PDAs announced in 1H 2010 (including a major refresh of the Pre - which I love the webOS)
I'll give Sprint a few more months to impress me for 2010. So far, Sprint has been awfully quiet except for a new eReader (?) and new WiMAX/4G routers and cards.
I wish Sprint would hear me and others with this concern and start offering better flagship devices!
@Accidental
Really? Sprint hasn't impressed you so far this year? In the 7 days they've had to?
Come on. Your complaints are unfounded, for a start Sprint's got the Hero and the Moment (the latter of which I own), which are both commendable Android units. Snapdragon phones are soon to follow, no doubt.
WEAK, to say the least. Pixi is trash. Sprint needs some new phone love- I havent noticed any real exclusives coming to them this year yet.
cmon Sprint!!!
I cant wait to get a web OS device. i really like the hardware design of the Pixi. I dont know what people are think when they say palm will go under. Web OS looks better than android. who cares about all those stupid services google provides. Web OS is the most polished OS out right now. when i can get a unlocked GSM web OS phone i will buy. ill pay 500 for a phone like that.
Now, if they would just take a few minutes to create some 64 bit drivers many who already own a Palm product would be more enticed to buy another. I have not used a webOS device yet, but the specs and promise seem good. The driver issue causes me to really not trust their long term support.
