Video recording coming to all webOS devices in February (updated: Flash on the Pre, too!)

High on the list of conspicuously-missing features for the Pre and Pixi has been video recording -- but happily, Palm's looking to close that gap shortly. Both devices will get hooked up next month with the goods, including integrating editing (that admittedly looks a bit like the iPhone's setup) and uploading to YouTube, Facebook, email, and MMS. We're not sure what actual webOS version this'll be launching in, but hey, who cares? Important thing is that it's hitting very, very soon.
Update: So it turns out it'll be part of webOS 1.4, which also includes beta support for Flash 10 on the Pre (sorry, Pixi owners). We know which one we're more excited about!

wow.... so happy I bought one of those.
Finally, I have been waiting for this since I got my phone in July, now I will be able to annoy my friends in many new ways!! =D
But what kind of video? 640x480 30p H.264? Or maybe something slightly higher? Hopefully nothing lower.
@roxics - yeah, they could have been a little more specific. I guess the Pre will do at least VGA/30fps, and the Pixi something less than that...
Move over WinMo, Palm is now in 3rd place for sure..
@(Unverified) Prebably...
haha.
Anyways, probably, since WM 7 wasn't demoed or anything... Poor MS.
Oh well, welcome back (again!) Palm!
@(Unverified)
Well, except that my WinMo 6.1 phone has been able to record video for well over a year now, almost two.
But I do like what Palm's doing in this space. Competition is good.
"that admittedly looks a bit like the iPhone's setup"
...you think they would at least make an attempt at originality. That looks exactly like the iPhone/iMovie editing control.
@Shadow
Honestly, there is only so many ways you can do that. At least its there. And it obviously works pretty well, or the jesusPhone wouldn't have it.
@Jonathan K
Oh now come on, that's not a "only so many ways" thing - that's a pretty obvious rip from Apple. It's pretty shameless.
@Shadow
Well if that's the case, Apple needs originality, because they had that same editing interface on my Sony Ericsson W800.
That look EXACTLY like the iPhone's clipping... come on man! Just cause Apple copies people doesn't mean you should copy them so blatantly!
@Yoda - cry us a river. Seriously. If it works well, I'd much rather see a similar setup on more devices instead of just one.
@Yoda
Get the stick out of your ass.
@Yoda Good artists copy. Great artists steal.
Ummm hello...Who came from Apple to Palm? Jon is da man! Dont hate cause he didnt stick around Apple. He was the pioneer of most of this stuff.
@Seven2k
of video recording?
What do you have against Flash?
Can't wait to play with this and checkout video quality. Not expecting camcorder levels but hope it's better than my old Centro.
Thank god 4 my choice with the Pre'.
That interface looks familiar.
Good CES for Palm. Getting on Verizon keeps them in the game, improvements to webOS don't hurt either. I haven't used a new Palm, but people who get them, usually love them.
It's amazing that because it's on the iPhone you feel that it "looks awfully familiar to the iPhone's"
You do know that's the interface used by many video editing programs right?
How else can you display the frams? Windows Movie Maker uses the same style. My SE W800 does the same thing. I mean really...I'm starting to believe in this Engadget bias just a little bit. At first I didnt...but damn...
So WebOS gets Flash beta and you get hot and bothered but when Android got Flash you were limp, lifeless, and apathetic? Engadget bitches....
@SamTime AFAIK Android has Flash 'lite', whereas this is Flash 10.1, the most recent and advanced version of Flash yet. So Engadget has every right to be excited.
Judging by the videos that I've seen of people showing off the video capture in the Pre+, it actually looks like it's pretty good quality. It looked more like an actual mini camcorder type video rather then those awful junky movies that most smart phones make. But it figures though. If you've ever used the Pre's camera you'll know that it's pretty nice for a phone and amazingly fast to boot. I'm totally stoked about this on all fronts. More memory, storage, faster processor, no goofy button, video capture, tethering, Flash 10, 3D gaming, C/C++ app development and it's coming to my network right when I'm eligible for "New every two."
I was a little disappointed after I realized that there wasn't going to be an entirely new WebOS device coming out at CES. But, after I got past that and started reading farther into the announcements, I'm very I'm actually pretty pleased.
Where's Flash?
Where's WebOS 1.4?
Can we have an update?
[the 'Net is strangely almost silent about what have been touted as two key events in Palm's corporate life]
