ASUS is back at it again with the crazy concept designs, and this time around it's brought the lustworthy Waveface collection to look pretty behind glass. There are three different concepts in the lineup that aim to redefine computing in almost every way imaginable. First up is the Ultra, which is a wearable computer / mobile phone based around a flexible
OLED display and can be controlled through hand gestures in mid air or by touching the display. Next is the Light, which is also based around a folding OLED, but will have some sort of physical keyboard that pops up when folded up into the laptop form factor. Lastly, the Waveface Casa, a television-esque home computer that will also be controlled through gestures in the air. We wish we could show you how said gestures would work -- or how any of this would work, really -- but these were really nothing more than empty shells filled with displays. Clearly this tech is a far ways off, but it's good to know that ASUS still has quite the imagination -- and hopefully the knowhow to maybe make it real someday.

uh video???
i'll believe it when i see it.
@gotwillk
I say this stuff will be in production within 4 years. Technology has reached the tipping point and the necessary advancements WILL take place fairly quickly.
coolest thing ever.
That video gave me WaveFace.
Why don't more manufacturers remove the bezel around the screen, or at least make it as thin as possible. Devices look so much sexier that way. Unless there's some kind of engineering reason that I cant fathom...?
@Esat Dedezade
would they just glue the screen on then? i would think the bezel houses important components such as connectors. also, as a buffer for protection purposes?
@Esat Dedezade
Before LED backlighting, the bezel was used to contain the CCFL tubes. It also allowed the computer to appear larger than the (at the time) expensive displays; this way typical as keyboards were the largest part of the notebook. There may be some protection added due to a larger bezel, but I can't imagine anything more than a few millimeters would provide a drastic improvement. These days, the bezel typically houses antennae for the wireless network card.
Thanks for the informative comment. You are true to your name :)
That video is protesting WaveFace.
ENGADGET. WHY DOESN'T MY USER PIC SHOW UP, EVER? I NEED ANSWERS, PLEASE.
@Scape3d

Tissue paper? Isn't that kind of rough on the stuff?
I would not reading text on a wavy screen.
@Solidstate89 The tissue paper is for cleanup, you muppet. In any case I made do with anonymoose's mother.
This is all well and good, but will it run zoomquilt?
Now that is cool.
I want one of each..make that two..
Wicked!
If that video was longer than 2 seconds.... i might have jizzed
