LG made the bold leap to
Android 2.0 with the low-to midrange GT540 it's showing this week, turning up the style dial a couple notches in a handful of colors (white, pink, dark gray, and black) with stylized wavy backs, chrome accents, and rounded edges. The UI's very standard with only minor tweaks, including a few custom LG apps; we couldn't get much information on it since it's a Euro-only release and the booth's being staffed primarily by the company's US team, but we can see that it's got a 3 megapixel cam, a 3.5mm jack, and a mix of touch-sensitive and physical buttons down below. We couldn't verify what kind of processor this thing has on board, but the UI speed certainly didn't blow us away -- if we had to guess, it's probably the same core that you'll find in the
GW620 Eve. Follow the break for a quick hands-on video.
Looks like a frog

@ndrwme The GT540 runs on Android 2.0 (aka Eclair) and comes with all the usual Google accoutrements (Maps, Market, Gmail, YouTube and Search). We think that the GT540 stands a good chance of doing for Android what the Cookie did for low cost touchscreens.
Although the design of this phone looks like the 90's indeed. Details: http://bit.ly/lg-gt540-details

I actually like this. Too bad it won't be coming across the pond.
@Wil2Win
I concur.
Nice yet simple design and if it's a little bit slower - but is cheaper than other Android phones - then I'm totally fine with that.
@Wil2Win I like it too. Pretty sleek.
@Wil2Win I really like this design. And I don't see how it's low-end. It's certainly not Nexus One level but it doesn't look like it'd be worse than a G1 or MyTouch 3G or Samsung Moment.
dude the phone's making a face. Can't unsee.
@Chuuchdizzle
u spot the face first when u watch da photo, it creeps out
That's gotta be the cutest low end phone I've seen... well done.
It looks pretty quick
If it's 2.0, why does it still have the UI of 1.5 and 1.6? (Other than the lock screen.)
I like the idea of putting a Smartphone OS onto a low-end device.
We'll all get an OS with great functionalities for a low price!
That is impossible with the iPhone OS.
Yes, the iPhone 3GS is a great device, but there are many great Android devices out there.
I got an Acer Liquid, based on Android 1.6, will get Eclair in March.
It's just as fast as the 3GS with its 768 MHz Snapdragon and additionally it has multitasking.
There aren't as many apps for Android as for the iPhone, but most of the iPhone apps are crap anyways.
Sure, most games for mobile platforms are for iPhone.
But personally I don't spend that much time on mobile gaming.
What I want to do when I'm not at home is watching movies, reading my RSS feeds, reading my Twitter & listening to my music.
And this is done the best way with Android.
Multitasking and notifications in the top bar. It rocks.
Just my opinion, don't want to start a flamewar between Android OS and iPhone OS.
As you can see I clearly stated that the iphone OS is the best OS if you want to play games on the go.
Hey, this thing should star in those American Express "Sad Face" commercials!

They call it "The Android Killer"
I'm OK with this. My GF might be getting a low end Android device from me when they finally make their way to AT&T.
This is a decent Android device.
This starts to create levels of Android devices apart from the current ones.
This is obviously going to cost much less than an HTC phone.
I WOULD get it for the price difference if I had to. Its a draw back but for entry level people, this is great.
I like the song in the background
