Cyber Clean smears our keyboards, fills our nostrils as we go hands-on (video)
You know that snotty, slimy stuff that you can get in vending machines for a quarter? The stuff that comes in the little, clear plastic bubbles and stains wallpaper and carpet instantly? Ever wonder what would happen if you gave it a refreshing lemony scent and then smeared it into your keyboard? We certainly never did, but Cyber Clean gave us the opportunity to find out anyway, handing us (and nearly everyone else at the show) a sample of the stuff. How does it work? How does it feel? How does it sound when it's thrown at a camera and slimes the microphone? We've got the answers after the break.

I put a tub of this stuff in my dad's stocking... don't know what you're doing but it works like a charm, at work it got a shit load of my co-worker's hair out of the keyboard... yeah it works that well
Are you kidding me? that laptop had its own ecosystem on the keyboard, I really cannot believe people are dirty enough to let their keyboards or mice get THAT messed up.
I'm on my third cyber clean and for me its worked wonder, it helps pick up hairs stuck behind the keys of my keyboard and you can get the dust of pretty much anywhere, for example I use it on the air conditioner vents of my car, just put it in there, remove and bam...looks like new. Same with the vents of my monitors and laptops.
It's meant to pick up small debris, not clean something that needs acid to get it removed.
I thought this was meant just to kill germs, not clean up stains..
I use this stuff to get crumbs and hairs out of the cracks between the keys.
Does anyone else think this review seems a little unprofessional, or at least incomplete. Or maybe it's not supposed to be a review at all, but it just seems like they should have given the product more of a chance at least before making a complete joke out of it. Don't get me wrong that was pretty funny though.
@jd Totally agree.. Lately the quality of Engadge posts have been slightly decreasing. I understand they don't have hours to play with each "gadget" but you need to be more fair to the product... Geez, like the dude was telling him, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!
@jd Personally, I wouldn't put a joke before doing a thorough review. I come here for the news, not the sarcasm, after all.
Wow, it's Nickelodeon green slime... I remember that stuff.
@Coyote
Yeah Gak Splat

I think Josh should rub it on his hair and see if it has any positive effect on that nasty grease. Or, he could shower WITH SHAMPOO. Just a suggestion.
Luckily you only need one photo for use as both the before and after shots.
Can anyone tell me what mouse mat that is? Looks like an eboy but I can't find it on their site.
Cheers :)
I call BS on everyone claiming this shit works. They sent me one too, and no matter what I do, it just sits there making me think it is cleaning up crap.
People claiming it "cleans between the crevices" are full of shit, because no matter how long I leave it on my keyboard, or push on it, there is no frikkin way it'll sink between my keys and suck up dead skin and crumbs.
Plus, if it really did ooze into my keys, it would leave pieces behind when I lift it off. Seriously, this gunk is just the slime they sell at Toysrus, but with a little scent added.
Look at the evidence - the company is called JOKER and their main product is kids slime:
http://www.jokerag.ch/de/produkte/showroom.html
One day, someone at the company had a brainwave, and decided to repackage it in the hope dumb consumers would buy it to clean their crap.
Not really a fair review. It's like trying to clean a mud-caked Jeep using 409 and a paper towel.
Thats a dead FLUBBER !!!!! OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!!
This stuff is actually really good on a normal keyboard. It doesn't work on laptops. Engadget really failed on this one, it's a good product.
This has been on sale in italy for over a year.. it works great on all types of electronic devices, not just keyboards!
@Shash450 Same here in the US, at pretty much any electronics store or Radio Shack. It works, but not on caked on stuff, and I wouldn't push it too hard on some keyboards, it has a tendency to get stuck under the keys and become a pain to dig back out.
Reminds me of Slime, which came in a plastic trash can back in the late '70s.

@Galley: I have one word for you, my friend. Micronauts.
You know how I keep my keyboard clean? I wash my f'n hands!!! Good god you greasy disgusting maggot.
OMG! I didn't know you guys at Engadget are such idiots. You make fun of stuff you don't even understand. I've had this for months and it works.
@convoyBot
Yeah, lots of their articles look like they were written by someone who doesn't understand what they're writing about. I always just read the source link.
@convoyBot It is called the "Monkeys with Computers Syndrome" - it has not a cure yet.
come on, you guys didnt have to disgrace the product.
@tam
why not? the package says press and pull.
Josh pressed it in a lot more on the second time than he did the first try, and he pulled it and nothing happened.
sounds like a false marketing claim to me. if that's what you're using to sell your crappy product, be prepared for people to use it against your crappy product too, right?
@tam Press and Pull to get dust out. NOT Press and Pull to get Hazardous Fungus and bacterias colonies that have grouped and assembled into one disgusting unibody that Clorox may even not dare to Touch. Heck, even Mr Clean will run away from that crap...
Hahaha! Received one of these for Christmas, they are actually quite widespread in stores in Asia. Bottom line is this thing is quite useless.
And Mr.Topolsky, you need to stop picking your nose while posting articles to engadget.
I would have thought you of all people would have a some form of "gadgetry" to dispense a kleenex before you go digging for gold.
(your nose is kinda big).
For any of you guys that don't know that joys of Mr Clean's Magic Eraser, it could clean even Josh's keyboard perfectly in about 20 seconds.
I've done tests with a Sharpie marker on my desk and it wipes clean almost instantly. Anyone who's ever tried to get that off of their desk will know that it's no small feat.
I know it sounds like b.s. but the thing really does work like magic.
I'm going to test out Cyber Clean right now.

Didn't work for me either.
I saw this stuff at Office Depot last night!
There have been many rebuttals to this vid from Engadget. This Josh character made an ass of himself and destroyed his credibility with this childish review. I recommend the product to everyone. I saw this stupid video by josh and went to their website www.cyberclean.tv. the product actually looks pretty darn cool. There have been reviews by:
Icrontic
Krunker
Teckzilla
Breakfast TV
and so many more..
GET YOURSELF A NEW MACBOOK!
and i thought my country is always slow in getting everything... i had been using cyber clean for the pass 2 years. fr malaysia...
I've been using this for years to clear off dust from my motherboard's and graphics card's PCB. It worked great. A single slap-and-pull clears every dust particle in sight.
First, I guess I will chime in and agree with some of the other posts that seem confused about the fact it doesn't seem like you all used the product as intended. Although at the same time, the post and video seem to clearly be humorous, so I don't know that anyone should treat this as a serious review. And let's be honest, a cleaning product that looks like slime is kind of funny.
I guess the odd thing here is that the "purpose" of the product seems readily apparent just from the description - when I read it was like that slime stuff, it seemed pretty clear that this is something designed more to pick up dust and hair and debris rather than just clean.
But ultimately, perhaps the problem is the product name. As if putting "Cyber" in the name wasn't goofy enough ("Phew, I wasn't going to use this on my computer, but since it says 'cyber', I know it's fine), perhaps "clean" might give people the wrong impression (that it is like a cleaning solution rather than something to pick up crap in your keyboard).
@Zadillo It seems a bit unfair to this product to have a joke at its expense if it actually works for people (at least some of them), doesn't it?
arrogant shit
i got some of that stuff for Christmas, it does stink, but does work :)
MYTH BUSTED
As stated by others; this was quite possibly the worst 'review' of a product I've ever seen.
I just use a mini-vac.
I see this stuff and it reminds me of fred the slime mold.
What a pussy throw
ummmm, i've had this for almost a year except my comes in a big about the size of a large orange or small grapefruit
Once again proof that certain people who miraculously landed jobs at engadget are as funny as they are relevant. I'd use this more for my cell phone than anything.
Has anyone tried this stuff on a fingerprint magnet touch screen phone yet?
@Barkus Doesn't work, it leaves a film on the screen (the actual cleaner, that is). Just use some monster lcd cleaner, that stuff takes care of any fingerprints, dirt, crap, etc on any size screen.
