Inbrics M1 is the thinnest Android slider we've seen, probably everything we ever wanted
We don't know what everybody else in the phone business has been doing lately, but Inbrics has just unveiled what looks to be the near-ultimate Android phone. The Inbrics M1 is a slider handset with a (great) 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display, 3 megapixel camera, front-facing VGA camera, 16GB of built-in storage, microSD slot and all the other usual trimmings, but what's particularly stunning is that the phone is not only half an inch thick, but it has a full QWERTY keyboard that's surprisingly clicky and typable. The phone is running Android 1.5 right now, but it should be up to Android 2.0 by the time it hits the market in March. The biggest concern is the 800MHz Samsung processor, the same chip that's in the Samsung Moment, but the interface (as demonstrated in the video after the break) is smooth as butter, and they demo'd it playing back 720p video just fine.
Inbrics actually has a lot of custom UI and software running on top of Android, but the most interesting part is what they're doing with video calling and beaming media from handset to videophone to TV to laptop over DLNA or through an access point device that plugs into the TV over HDMI. Inbrics also has a Cover Flow-style media browser that isn't super deep in functionality, but still puts the stock Android stuff to shame, and some rather sexy custom widgets.
The plan is apparently to get a carrier to bite and rebrand this phone in the US, so price and availability are still pretty hard to pin down, but if this phone can hit the market soon it sure could give the rest of the QWERTY Android sliders out there some body image issues.

I'll Take 2.... I really find it hard to believe that none of the big name phone manufacturers out there have realized that a large group of Android fans want a keyboard AND an phone that doesn't look like someone put it together with Legos, tinfoil and plastic wrap (Read as droid, cliq, and moment - although the moment is at least nicer looking if it wasn't so freaking large). I hope however that they ship it with stock Android and let customers choose if they want the slick UI. Heck charge $5 for a "UI Upgrade"
Looks like a great phone :)
That thing looks very nice... Makes my touch pro 2 look fat :(
But im sure by the time that thing comes out in the U.S there will be a handfull of 1ghz phones and that will be its downfall... Unless they plan on selling it cheap. hint hint...
Very nice phone, makes it a bit harder to decide which phone to take, the Droid, Nexus One or this one.
Never heard of Inbrics, but well that doesn't mean it can't be good.
But what does the 800Mhz say? How can it be compared to the OMAP of the Droid/Snapdragon of the Nexus one?
Will it also become abailible on the European market?
Lolve the fact that it has an QWERTY keyboard over the entire length of the device instead of an dpad as on the Droid.
Are you too waiting for a dual SIM Droid-like phone? Then let's rank this up!
@Mr Oos
guess what: my e90 doesnt even have a 3.5mm jack - but who cares? i got sennheiser px 210 and they work even better with android devices (and the e90) than they do with my itouch - which cant do skip, only play pause
so - u dont really have to have a headphone jack AND my earbuds do actually also have an angled jack...
back to topic: that phone looks great - i was still considering the moment - and this absolutely dimisses it - id like to see live comparison between snapdragon, other cortex (eg droid) and 800mhz a11 - this one is thin (what made the nexus one attractive) and has a keyboard (droid and moment...)
hope itll be available in europe ;)
@HighestRanked Why don't you just do everybody a favour and shut the fuck up ?
Ohhhh, me wanty!
Thought unfortunately it sounds like there will be no unlocked release with all this talk of carrier customisation. I would love to get this for the rest of my stint on the Hero contract.
It would be awesome if a company like Palm bought the design to this and put WebOS on it.
@McButnic thats a damn good idea, i still say that webOS is the best OS ever for a phone
@dirtballrotten Really? WebOS is very pretty, but I think Android is the best experience. Have you used webOS and Synergy? It creates more problems than it solves.
@risk looks like the phone google shouldve made... (keyboard)
I will buy this phone in a heartbeat if it comes to Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint. They all have 3G in the areas I live/work/play in, if T-Mobile did I would go with them. I really like my Droid, but the keyboard leaves a lot to be desired. Everything else is great about it for me, and this phone seems to only improve on it with a 250Mhz bump to the same architecture, 16GB of built in storage (finally), same screen size is ok with me although a 4.1" would be sexier. So what about the RAM? It's gotta be at least 256, I would hope for 488-512 though seeing as how everything else seems to be top notch. Now please please please give us a option to remove the UI stuff or even offer updates earlier on if we can do without the UI, then add it back on later when the manufacturer gets it updated to whatever the current Android build is.
On GoT (gathering of tweakers) I guy said the following:
It seems to be an overclocked version of the C100 which is known from the iPhone 3GS. So its's based on an Cortex A8.
I think the processor itself might even be faster compared to the Snapdragon. They both share the ARMv7 architecture, but the C100 has a few additional expansions/extras.
So this would be the one and not the S3C6410: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/productInfo.do?fmly_id=229&partnum=S5PC100&xFmly_id=229
Let's hope this all is true :)
No multitouch? No thanks. I'll stick to my Pre and my newly available 3D games.
@SarnGate how about if you do me a favor and not try to censor me like some foreign dictator.
That keyboard looks really great. I agree with others about putting in the new snapdragon, but DON'T put in a 5megapixel sensor. A great place to get educated on digital camera tech is dpreview.com. Read some stuff and learn that megapixels are not all created equal. One of the main reasons a picture look great is that it has low color/grayscale noise levels. To achieve lower noise levels a few things are at play: the software within the camera itself processes and does noise reduction AND the size of each megapixel per the sensor helps to reduce noise. This is why my 3megapixel old canon point-and-shoot takes better looking photos than the current generation 10 megapixel point and shoots: The sensor size is the same on both, but since they have to cram 10 megapixels onto such a small sensor, your images are prone to heavy noise and thus rely too much on software noise reduction.
So no, lets stop cramming megapixels, save that sensor money for better lens optics.
@Bhima
THANKYOU!! i always see people complaining about megapixels when its really the lens quality that needs to improve for better pics. Plus when do you need 5 mp resolution on phone pics anyway?? you're just going to upload those pics to facebook and they will be scaled down anyway. for anything other than casual shots like that you need a real camera
i have to say this phone is very impressive, i mean why would anyone who is looking at andriod not want this phone, its thin, has a keyboard, it looks very usable, i dont see anything negative right now about this phone. if it comes to the US i think this phone could be a hit, even more than the nexus one..
kickass...
Seriously, it's called manual focus. This video is so annoying.
All we ever wanted 3MP camera... hmmm no!
@b0rndead But you shouldn't have to buy bluetooth headphones just so you can easily listen to music. It's kind of like an Apple thing where they come out with a device (Shuffle) that uses some weird proprietary setup that means you'll either use their crappy earbuds, buy new ones that are compatible (when they come out) or wait for someone to make an adapter.
For everyone else, don't headphones have a 90 degree jack so as not to allow for too much leverage that can loosen the connector? That actually could be wrong, but I thought that's why they did that. And Apple kind of changed that because a straight jack looks cooler.
Glad too see a Slider with a AMOLED 3.7 in, Android and a nice keyboard. Would love to see this on an HTC model, HD3 maybe with a 4.2 AMOLED, Android 2.1, 1ghz Snapdragon and thin stylish not to mention usable keyboard.
I want that keyboard on my droid and its ability to show the homescreen as landscape with the keybaord closed
thinnest slider ever? u gonna bother to tell us exactly how thin it is?
If it's that thin with a qwerty, I wonder how much they can get away with without one?
The problem with Android is that there's a new "Ultimate Android phone" every month.
You're outdated very quickly, not only in the "it's not the shiniest toy" way, but in the "great, now I have to wait and hope that my manufacturer or carrier upgrades me to 1.6, 2.0 or 2.1 so I can have the newest features and apps." I shouldn't have to go through the trouble of hunting down and trusting random people to make me unofficial roms full of compromise, Google should get on top of this and push updates for phones quickly. Android is very messy.
is the US ready for this? fire this moron. and OF COURSE Sprint will never have it because why? because they're IDIOTS
@Mr Oos Thats what my Zune HD is for. No headphones for this thing.
@HighestRanked
Good Lord, that's a lot of down-ranks.
slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
@BuryTheCastle I recommend you take a screenshot. This is historic.
@BuryTheCastle Aside from its size, it’s not slouch in the feature department too, as it sports a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display, 3-megapixel camera, front-facing VGA camera, 800MHz processor, 16GB built-in storage, microSD card expansion, and a full QWERTY keyboard
The only caveat here is that it will run on the old Android 1.5. Not so shabby indeed. More Inbric Details: http://bit.ly/inbrics-m1-details
@simbadogg
I guess you missed the part where they told us the phone is "only half an inch thick"
I haven't found any Android devices sexy, until now!
Side note: I do think the N1 looks good, but a device with this kind of sex appeal, mixed with some user friendly UI tweaks, and you've got one hell of a mainstream device!
They seem really eager to push their product, I'm glad they are!
They have the makings of a great company...partnerships with global carriers and manufacturers including T-Mobile, SK Telecom, Korea Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Celcom, Samsung, LG, and Kyocera.
They seem to have the right backing behind them to make their dreams a sustainable profitable reality!
Identity "Be Myself" is a great tagline for their 1st device! (^_^ )
And with the following company goal...
"To create a more intuitive experience that every consumer could benefit from."
They definitely will be the "fill" in Apple's "?" posed question that they are trying to tap revenue into...except I love Inbrics welcoming openness to diversity juxtaposed Apples Unified company (albeit greedy) strategy.
"Inbrics convergence 'controller' acts as a conduit so the data can be pushed to any device the consumer chooses."
I love how they embrace their devices with a vision of unlimited potential.
Definitely the right type of progressive thinking if you ask me!. (^_^ )
The company plans to introduce the MID M1 in the U.S. through cable companies and both fixed and wireless carriers. It will be available in the U.S. in 2010 or early 2011.
I personally can't wait! ;)
